  • I have seen internet content delivery systems that required interaction in order to see the next page. Would we need teachers to ask every student in class for permission to continue? I prefer the ability to see straight lectures or reviews that will continue until I interrupt the presentation for clarification. This would allow me to digest content during other activities such as exercising.

  • This reminds me of the efforts to provide more ways to keep student attention, like including video game rewards.

A simple lecture, review, overview and test practice help. Adding attention retaining qualities are distracting when looking at a dictionary or during a quick lecture, review or test.

Are we caught up in the ability to create virtual worlds and forgetting what student's need? I have seen too many times where focus on environment reduces functionality.

  • perhaps we should focus more on practicums and experiential learning instead of interacting through a screen...

I mean, if I want to practice Spanish, I'll befriend a native speaker in real life.

  • Hello Matrix.

  • It seems.... a little too flashy. This could have been done in a far simpler way.

  • I can understand the second life Spanish deal, but you're not going to get any real practice doing "role playing doctor"... Kids can do that on club penguin all the time. That's just an excuse to not actually teach your class real people skills.

  • Lol this news is so 3 years ago :P

  • watch?v=z0-TbbZUa68

You people better not miss out on this one!

  • Im not sure about this second life...I would have liked a longer vid than this 2:35 long bullshit

  • lol secondlife

  • "A very traditional university environment"

Shows scene of a guy on a unicycle.

    #LOL

  • Nope, have an M.A. in Literature; this is bullshit.

  • whoa! real language and not simlish!

  • sweet stuff. but nothing will ever beat the real thing.

  • The only way you can make money in second life is if your a prostitute.

  • and just email questions

Or better yet, just have a pod cast of the lecture.

Students can then email questions or come in for questions.

  • Speaking from SL experience, it's a complete failure.

For the whole spain thing, it's great however they do not know if they are speaking with people who speak well too.

Secondly, the program (or game?) is terrible for able bodied students.

It is NOT something that's good for this world because human interaction such as body language is quite necessary when doing the check up with the doctor.

If they are going to go so far with the lecture, someone might as well set up a video feed

  • awesome!!!

  • Damn every single character was a fat tub of shit in this video

  • this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen

  • When computers and video games become an ADDICTION to teens and kids, why the hell would these people support education through digital worlds?

  • @cryps1 No, what the hell man? it's not something negative or bad for them. the results are great.

  • @fenix611

You don't get it, when new fundamental things of life are introduced in a new digital - video game world, it spreads like a virus into other parts of our society. Eventually everything we do in our lives will be in front of a glowing screen!

  • @cryps1 Society is not catching up to the rate of advancement of technology.

  • @cryps1 No more of an addiction than other forms of media.

  • yeaaah why don't we just go ahead and submerge ourselves in a fake digital universe that's actually supported by educational institutions.

wake up, study in second world, have some adventures in WOW, and go down the matrix path shall we?

  • I think people in the comment section are slightly too negative to this. If universities are reporting a 30% increase in academic succes among students (see 1:59) due to this, then it's obviously not a bad idea.

  • @EasytoonGuy Agreed, as someone who has taken Japanese for a few years I felt it would of helped a LOT if I could of spoken with a Japanese community to see where my level was at even if that means via online game.

  • our brains in jars will the next step...interpret it as you wish XD

  • this is so stupid it looks like a parody

  • yea i dont think this is a good idea

  • 0:02 The Dark Side of the Moon!

  • This is simply absurd.

  • ...alright?

  • R U SERIOUS? Wow, talk about lazy ass americans!

  • cool.

  • Wow. Lame.

  • @Degenskonto lol

  • moo cow
