Glue Trap = Mice getting stuck, me noticing it, me striking the mouse in the head with some blunt object (killing it), me discarding now dead mice properly with no gore or smell.
Bar Trap = Mice getting struck in head or neck, me noticing it, me discarding mice with possible stench and gore.
Best option? Glue Trap...

No, eagles don't usually prey on foxes - foxes are way too large for an eagle to grasp. Their main source of food are small rodents, mice and rats in particular. Take into account that many snakes also rely on these animals for survival.

There are alternatives to glue traps, which are more humane and hygienic that glue traps. Positioned correctly, snap traps will get the kill in less than a second 99% of the time which is humane for the mouse, and there is no mess (unlike glue traps).
There exist traps that can be made at home from little more than a pop bottle and some bait or a toilet paper tube hanging over a table above an empty wastebasket. They fall inside and then can't escape, where they can be transported somewhere and released or dispatched humanely (I prefer to release them, myself).

the rats that most often get into people's houses are invasive species and do far more damage to birds and other native life than glue traps do. if we ever manage to catch a rat in one of our glue traps, we would know about it within hours and i will be sure to, you know, kill the thing quickly. it's hard not to take it personally when another mammal, with similar emotions and social structures to my own, brings all it's friends to take massive shits under my bed.

No, eagles don't usually prey on foxes - foxes are way too large for an eagle to grasp. Their main source of food are small rodents, mice and rats in particular. Take into account that many snakes also rely on these animals for survival.

I'm willing to bet most people out there who have a living mouse on a trap aren't going to just throw that sucker in the trash or leave it while still wriggling and just say "eh, that's cool, I'll just hope it dies on its own.". Not only would many probably not be comfortable with doing that to an animal, they'd also not want to risk it somehow getting off.

i understand that glue traps are a bad alternative but then again so is having that little thing run around my house contaminating my little sons clothes. i know we probably took over there habitat in the first place but these work and they sell it. therefore i buy it. its not like i sit there for five days and then check the trap i check everyday and then dispose of it when i have had to use them. just shoot them or drown them in a bucket. There are alternatives to glue traps, which are more humane and hygienic that glue traps. Positioned correctly, snap traps will get the kill in less than a second 99% of the time which is humane for the mouse, and there is no mess (unlike glue traps).

There exist traps that can be made at home from little more than a pop bottle and some bait or a toilet paper tube hanging over a table above an empty wastebasket. They fall inside and then can't escape, where they can be transported somewhere and released or dispatched humanely (I prefer to release them, myself).

the rats that most often get into people's houses are invasive species and do far more damage to birds and other native life than glue traps do. if we ever manage to catch a rat in one of our glue traps, we would know about it within hours and i will be sure to, you know, kill the thing quickly. it's hard not to take it personally when another mammal, with similar emotions and social structures to my own, brings all it's friends to take massive shits under my bed.

I don't think glue traps are cruel. But the mice should be killed as quickly as possible. Not left there to die a frightful death. There's necessity and then there's cruelty. God wouldn't like me to make them suffer.
