most anime fans dont like dubs becouse they watch the subed version a long time before the show gets licensed USUALY. the first time watchign something leaves a strong first impression and when you watch the dub your jsut like WOAH thats not wright. i my self watch dubs over subs period however some anime like kanokon got raped when MB dubed it. watching it made me want to cry.

@apairon2 Dubs are terrible full stop, but not because of (insert reason). It's simply because japanese voice actors read the script, and the animation is based around that. as in the sound is the first thing that gets done, and the video is based around that. Dubs are the opposite, you are taking an animation whereby the characters are speaking an entirely different language and translating the script not only to english, but in a way that it fits the mouth movements as close as possible. crap.

@Nettacki But the thing is, they will never be as good as the original, because the script HAS to be changed to accomodate the animation. The best example would be in the dub of Gurren Lagann, whereby when they first announce they will 'combine', a series of reactions is shown from everyone. Liete's original line, 'thats not possible', is changed to 'oh please honey' in reaction to Yoko. This changes the character completely.

Im not hating on dubs, they can be good, but sadly not often.

@apairon2 Really dubbing really depends on the company and director running the project. Some dubs are really awful, and they not only rape the acting but the story in it as well. For example, CardCaptor Sakura in the US was awful, but the dub in the UK was much better, leaving the story intact. However, there are some really good dubs out there, of course japanese casting is good, but they generally pic generic voices to play certain parts. For example, generally the main character girls...

@sumizome18 ... in Shoujos sound the same depending on the archetype they are (tsundundre and such) Not saying it's bad but it can get pretty bland sometimes, just most people don't notice. However in English, for some reason when there's a good balance between studio, director and actor behind it all, it can become a real sense of a very good dub. For instance, Ouran Host Club has a great balance of all of these. And even though I can watch the sub and I don't mind the acting, the dub's great.

@Rizlim Not all english dubs are bad IMO. I personally think black lagoon dubbed was way better than it was subbed. Likewise for Baccano, probably because it takes place mainly in prohibition era U.S.A. But that's just my two cents.

@Rizlim unless your refering to the 4kids dubs then yeah defiantly, but companies like Funimation and Aniplex help bring over the culture of Japan from over seas and trust me alot of people are thankful for this, dubbing companies like this respect their culture and they're one of the best dubbing comapnies out there and if you don't like the dubs they left the original dubs as an option in the dvdsand the dubs from these companies are really damn good.

@thegameulost my opinion boy, I hate DBZ so I don't care how they did theirs, Card Captor Sakura was dubbed by 4kids so its dub was inevitably going to be bad. I'm one of those many people who can watch and would normally prefer dubs. now get off my back about it.
