You need TIRES to brake, he lost a few there. No brakes and a wet track, the driver had no choice in the matter: Sir Issac Newton was in the drivers seat then. And he pribly saw the gravel trap coming up and figured he would just stop.

@MacMillanSniper I think it's because the left wheels were slowed by the gravel, causing the car to turn towards left: you see it changing direction little before the last jump. Then the centrifugal force towards right was greater than the weight of the left wheels.Sorry, it's a twisted explanation, hope you understand!

so true great driver but had the luck of calamity james. Thank god he's still with us though. He raced in a very very dangerous period of formula one. They didn't realise how terrible the safety standards where compared to the speeds they became capable of doing and he took more than his fair share of those wrong place wrong time moments.

Warwick was a good talent in F1 back in the 80's. When he went to touring cars in the 90's he was terrible. he had something like 21 DNFs out of 24 races in the 1995 season.

yeah he was going through a wall of spray at Hockenheim. When it rains their the trees keep the fog low on the track. He hit Luca Badoer in the Scuderia Italia. Warwick only had a headache but started the race.

Derek Warwick was a great driver.......Its a shame his F1 career is remembered more for the accidents he had in comparison with some of his more inspired drives.

If you have ever seen him drive outside of F1 you wouldve seen him post a few victories in other classes and some days totally dominate.

Warwick was a brave driver, but for some reason never quite made the cut. He's possibly still best remembered for his move at Paddock Hill Bend in the Renault at the start of his F1 career.

His career seemed to be one of bad choices of teams; not going to Lotus in 1984/5; not staying at Toleman when they became competitive; staying at Renault when they became rubbish - I think he was one of the best drivers never to have won a grand prix.
