Well there are knife courses that you can sign up for with no martial arts experience. I did one with said friend which was 2 weeks intensive training where we were given 5 inch self made knives where we focused on parrys, disarms and critical strike points. It was intense but totally rewarding process
Real martial arts training, i have a friend in the army reserves who was a first degree black belt in TKD his unit was assigned to a max-security prison to supervise a prisoner who was being transfered. The guy he was watching was taking a shit in a stall and my friend turned his back on him for a split second and the guy tried to bull rush him with a shank, My Friend countered, disarmed him, took him down, and but that guys ass in an arm bar and waited for security to come in.
Or....if you were Steve B in Maroubra/Cronulla and the first Leb Muslim raced up to him with a wild kinghit that went nowhere, Front power kick, grab the sucker, hold on (a knee strike to boot) and use him as a shield against the other morons.
I agree dionysosiva engaging an armed attacker is extremely dangerous but you don't always have a choice between figt and flight. What if your trapped in a narrow pass or dead end street and there is no other place to run but past the attacker;you're going to have to engage.
I believe in training and practice but I've seen people get cut and stabbed and it never looks like practice. The ones who get cut run away if they can. The one who gets stabbed usually collapses and gets taken to the hospital. I have seen some wrist locks to disarm and some striking combos that are really effective when someone is holding a knife to you but when an assailant is slashing and stabbing methodically, you are going to get cut if you engage.
so true. You don't use a toy knife to train. You use a red magic marker. If you get any red on you, you look at the length of the line. Then you take a real knife and cut meat the same length to learn just how much you'd get hurt.
as soon as the person started to move, I'd cut their throat. If I were inclined to be a criminal, especially if I was sped up, if anyone twitched or gave me bad pressure...gurgle gurgle gurgle.

Little unrealistic attacks from the assiliants, no punches just runt right into them. But howewer it's really good training.

Every year police officers are killed by knives or at times even bare hands. The cops carry guns. What happened in those instance?
