  • used to have an 8800gt, upgraded to a cheap 5850 2 years ago. it was a reference card and im using a haman cooler on it. running at 1020/1275 STABLE. but i more often play at 950/1250. the former clocks are for the beauty that is metro 2033. this is an awesome card, and overclocks exceptionally well. my vote fr greatest gfx card in the world lol

  • Nice Card, thats for sure. Upgraded from a 9800gt in sli and this thing can push thew any game I own. 11.3 drivers kinda suck tho, using 11.2 right now. 940mhz core/ 1250mhz mem, plays Black Ops 60+fps well at max, but that game is poorly optimize tho.

  • its not evega!! its Eee Vee Gee Aaa

  • 1100 is the limit for overclock! what the f**K, are you on crack!

  • obviously since you have gskill 1066 which is ddr2 its bottlenecking your 5850 causing it to have worse performance, the 5850 would outperform the 9800 by %130+ in every shap and form of graphics/physics/computing

  • and by we you mean just you, cause you probably dont have any friends cause i doubt anyone is stupid enough to believe what you think you know about graphics and computing

  • In an actually benchmark graph the scores for the 5850 would be way higher but you created this graph yourself, 5850 can get 40fps on crysis maxed out 8xAA and 1600x900 and every other game 60 or higher fps on 1920x1080, wtf is wrong with you

  • wtf! the 5850 has 4000Mhz for memory clock, and the Core clock is 750, if you get the Black edition version the memory clock is 4250-4450 and the core clock is 775, go to tiger direct . com and type in xfx 5850

  • its eeeee veeeeee geeeeee aaaaaa

    lrn2pronuounce bro

  • so the 5770 is the same thing pretty much?

  • i got 20 fps in wow, my spec is good so stfu, 8 gb ram etc. i dont give a fuck. Ati sucks. i wasted money and time on ati, fuck you ati. FUCK YOU.

  • the reason you want higher fps is because it shall take longer to get down to a low fps such as 20 to 15 if you have fps at 100 and one at 200 it will take longer to get from 200 to 20 to 15 than the other 100 fps obviously.other things such as its good to know you are getting a constant frame rate of that wich your are playing on! therefore i shall get an ati 5850 1gb. L:D

  • my specs are

    2 times NVIDIA GEFORCE 9800 GT 1GB

AMD PHENOM 6 CORE CPU (3.01 GHZ)

    5GB DDR3 RAM

WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT ULTIMATE (taking 1gb of my ****** ram

  • the msi and asus software doesnt only apply to their own cards people use it for other cards such as urs from sapphire.... and ur double screen problem wasnt the drivers it was the bios... i dont wanna be a troll but before u give reviews of cards and other things learn about them first then test them then give ur review. and no difference form 30 fps to 100? thats a bs statement there is a large difference especailly in FPS games how many bullets u shoot changes how fast u move changes. big dif

  • wooo p5q pro turbo :D good motherboard haha love your vids subed

  • I'm going to make my own PC with a GTZ 480. Pretty good graphics card.

  • If i got the standard Diamond Radeon 5850, would i have any trouble oc'ing it? would any of those limiters you mentioned apply?

  • I have a 8800GTS and Ive been thinking of getting this card for a while now.. But the prices keeps going up, at least here.. Now its about 300e.. So ill wait till it gets to about 250 and buy one...

  • btw im noob..what do you mean artifact?

  • I just got a new lap top with an ATI Radeon 5850

  • listen am not gonna say that FSX needs CPU power but i got the 6 Core CPU from Intel and two GTX 480s, when i changed from the GTX 260s things really got interesting in FSX

  • Nerd

  • stfu you haters, this is a fucking review he's doing his bit right so I suggest you start - shutdown now

  • virgin... u talk 2 mutch...

  • my graphics card has become alot more powerfull since i got my amd hex core... and my 8gb ddr 2000 ram. looks awsome and sexy aswell lol

  • Hi I am brasilian and i have a 9800gt and i want to buy a ATI 5850,but i don´t know if this is a very very good video card for FSX!I want to put every thing on full with AA ...

  • @joaohen type into the youtube search box FSX ATI 5850, lots of sample videos show up for you to see what it will look like with that card.

  • you look like the AVGN

  • i don't like your face i don't like your voice and speech

    i think you are wrong

  • lol u cant compare the 5850 for the 9800GT its far away dude

  • i got a 5870 and ii love it

  • your ugly

  • Whats is the difference between the ATI 5850 and the 5870? I'm looking to build a computer and wondering if there is a noticeable difference? I'm just wondering if should spend the extra $120 and go for the 5870. Please point me to another video if I missed this topic, Thanks for your time! = )

  • @marshalljdsc Not a huge difference, just about by 12-20 fps. For the extra 120 it's not really worth it unless your going crossfire. You can overclock the 5850 to similar specs of the 5870. Radeon's 5000 series are expensive, especially over what their worth in actual expense to AMD in making. Cheaper hardware for better performance was their main breakthrough, but you can get a 4 series for better performance and being cheaper than a 5(well not when you go above the 5830's).

  • I thought you had a lot of very good information. Thank You.

  • fucking idiot! 5850 is like 1000 times better than the 9800 -_-

  • Graphics card: ati 5860 hd sapphire

    Processor: intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 Ghz

    Installed Memory(RAM): 4GB

    Motherboard: nForce 680i SLI

is that a good build pc for now? would it run all games smoothley with all settings high?

And i want to know how much should i overclock my CPU and how...

A reply would be nice :) thx..

  • so... this isnt a review, its a comparison...

  • YAY about time people use Arma 2 as a benchmark... Sheesh. They keep using Left 4 dead for some stupid reason that a 5 year old card can run and average specs. But Arma 2 should be benchmarked alot more.

  • BSOD only because Vista 64 try Win 7 64 havent seen BSOD

  • @ECiguser I have... but only from overclocking with too small of a votage tweek

  • rad Nautica shirt...how did you get an ati 5850 in 1992

  • when u change a graphics card do u have to change the mother board

  • @hongkong57 no just change the graphics card

  • I got my 5850 to a 1000MHz core clock

And 1100-1200MHz memory clock and it runs superb and never gets past 50c on load!

  • when you started blabbering off your system specs i was like "good.. good... nice.. OC'd? awesome! vis.. vista? WHAT! FAIL!!!!" xD

very VERY good review, good set of information, im using a 32" LCD (1920x1080) and a 19" (1280x1024), so im kinda prepaired for anything..

  • im only getting like 60 frames with my 5770 in fsx. how are you getting 226 frames a second in ames iowa. my cpu is a amd phenom 2 x4 @ 3.1 ghz

  • Damn! I have had an HD3870 for years and never seen a blue screen! Your problems are caused by you being unexperienced in trying to over clocking your card. You can flash it with an overcloced bios. Stop blaming the ATI for your mess-ups. I find the Catalyst drivers are perfect and way better than Nvidia. I play all the latest games including MW2, Arma2, OFPDR, BFBC2 all with perfect graphics and frame rates.

  • I got a question... Is it worth returning my 5830 and spending the extra $80 dollars to upgrade to the 5850 (both are Sapphire)?

    Please respond ASAP.

  • @noobhealz402 Nah, not worth it :) One thing though, unfortunately dude the 5830 is awful on price/performance compared to the 5850 but no reason to upgrade now

  • Oh well, already got my 5830, it's still a very nice card, but i'll agree that you'd get a lot more out of the 5850... But sometimes we can't get what we want :(... But im still loving the 5830.

  • @noobhealz402 Yes man, enjoy your GPU it's going to be serving you VERY well for ages :) OC it a little :P hehe

  • I dont agree with the other poster.

The 5850 is BAD ASS. You wont regret dropping that xtra 80 down on it for the xtra performance your going to notice it trust me.

  • no.

  • DEFINITELY.

I had two Radeon 4850's in crossfire.

You'd say the 5850 is same performance.

Not quite. I turn up ALL eye candy at maximum and I can clearly and visibly tell how much better the 5850 handles this without a benchmark telling me that. So, your going to notice night and day between the 5830 and 5850.

    DO IT!

  • How can you compare 9800GTX with 5850?

9800GTX is way to old some of them still have 65 nm gpu!

  • nvidiots will compare anything to an NV card and guess what? No matter what the NV card is always going to win dont argue with the Nvidiot dude it's a lost cause.

  • aren't u from that Cessna 154 channel

  • When will ATI get their shit together and Launch their graphics card with a good working driver? They make very very good hardware, but they are lacking a little on the software department (drivers). I have a 9800gtx and planning on buying a 5850 in the middle of april.

  • By then Nvidia's DX11 cards will be out.

  • @lizardmannnn doesnt the ATI 5850 alreadly support DX11

  • @TearsOfWar1 Ive been using the 5850 now as I waited for Fermi.

Which turned out to be the Fermi Fail fiasco were seeing now.

I got my 5850 OC for 299 with Modern Warfare 2. I can OC it in the overdrive panel and Im getting a 15 percent boost and from the 470 benches its leaving it behind.

  • Really? Cool! I can't decide between the 5870 or 5850. is there a big difference?

  • Power fix: watch?v=pUTshLWKcZQ

  • @hallal55 Well power wise

    4870x2 - £300-400

    5850 - £200

    GTX 285 - £200-ish

    4980 - £175

But Price/Performance is your big thing 585-0, for pure power - 4870x2

  • what kind of 5850 would u reccomend i was ooking at teh XFX overclocked edition or the TOXIC spahrie editiom

  • @hallal55 Do NOT get an overclocked one :)

    Waste of money!

But apart from that...XFX, MSI, Asus, Sapphire are by far the best brands to go with :)

  • even if its like 7-10$ extra? cant you overclock the overclocked ones?

  • @hallal55 They will overclock just as well as the un-overclocked ones so you will literally be paying for a higher stock clock when you can overclock the crap out of it... mine runs at 900/1270 constantly at 1.1 V which is 0.013 above stock voltage so the price difference is not justifyable ;)

  • which version do you have?

does the toxic spahire one with the VAPOUR COOLING make a diffrence?

    arnt they normaly 1.3v?

  • its been pretty much proven that overclocked models are indeed better binned chips, so if its only a few bucks more its worth it.

  • @GiggleHz Proof please

  • im not sure what your responding too but if its about the superior binned chips, look up trubritar destruction, of course they seperate and bin chips, how else would they turn failed high end chips into low end models, every chip can vary on a microscopic level.

  • i need some help

i have a DELL Inspiron 1721 laptop and i want to know if or how i can upgrade my graphics card right now i ithink it is the ATI X2070 and its ok but id like to buy better?

  • you cant. most likely its integrated so you cant change it and + you are going to need a better power supply which i don't think you can do in a laptop.

  • @scalliwagg your funny if you think nvidia doesnt ever release cards with bad drivers lol whatever fan boy you would probably buy the 285 for 60 dollars more even though the 5850 beats it lol fan boys what do you do?.....

  • Think i will stick with my 9800gtx until the nvidia 300 series are released. ATI drivers are bad news and thumbs down for them for releasing their new cards with such terrible drivers!

  • completely agree, even though i have a 4890, i wish i never bought it cuz the ati code gave up on simulators, so the fact that fsx only uses 28% of my gpu and cause it isnt optimized for my card i dont get great fps on fsx. wish i knew that before i built my pc....

  • i have HAWX

  • does anyone know when the price is going to be lowerd on this card? =)

  • Hi its Tom

    1st mem clock is 2000Mhz (4000)

2nd.yes you right about the drivers, they are still crap , 4 years ago I had a ati X1900XT

and I have to use omega drivers modified by igor pavlov russian guy , because catalist gave me 5400 points in 3dmark and omegas gave me 10K points , any way I've seen that card in action even can beat nvidia GTX 285!!! in some tests , but that problems with the drivers or some games may not work.

3rd,I haveTAGAN PSU TG500-BZ is this card will works ok on him?

  • wow me and u have the same ram and PSU nice

  • You cant easily flash the GPU's BIOS from whatever you have, to an Asus and unlock that low OC cap.

  • evega, its e-v-g-a

  • the nvidia card did better on Flight Simulator X because flight simulator x doesn't support 5850's technology

its not because it aint graphic independet

  • no...

The cpu simply bottlenecks before the graphic card. FSX is probably the most CPU intensive game around.

  • well i hope thats right :)

but i did heard that my info from good place :) so i know it aint wrong either

  • wrong.

FSX is the WORST CPU bound optimized game around. Even worst than Battlefield Bad Company 2 BETA.

  • @turraisgone i was going to upgrade my 9800gtx+ because of the lag in BC2, maybe ill wait until the game is released .

  • @CMPlive How would I run on FSX ? I have AMD X4 II 620 2.60Ghz (not O.C) 4GB Cosair RAM at 1333mhz, Palit Geforce Nvidia 9800GT 1GB and 1TB HDD?

    Thanks in advance Alex

  • @CMPlive how come that my CPU usage is on 5 to 10 % during flight time on FSX all max specs on my channel

  • @CMPlive FSX is not intensive, FSX got the worst graphics engine around so i changed all off the textures with some high quallity ones

  • @CMPlive the cpu wont bottleneck before the gfx card. the minimum requirements for the cpu is 1.0ghz processor and recommended is 3.6 if you have a quad core nowadays you will have no problem running a cpu intensive game with a good gfx card. loot at bc2.. look at MoH those are both CPU dependant games... what meteo said was correct..

  • @CMPlive alsooo my nvidia 9500gt did better in fsx than my ati 4670 and my 4670 is better :/ my 4670 does better in games tho much better just not fsx :/

  • I always thought it was pronounced "EeVeeGeeAy"

    Learn something new every day.

  • I have heard it both ways...just happened to say it that particular way in the video

  • thanks bro great advice!!

  • Clear review but what 5850 do you have? MSI?

  • Sapphire

  • wtf ? Cessna152 dude you guys are brothers? share computer aswell? damn

  • He looks like Cessna152 (sorry I forgot his name) and has the same voice!!!

    Aren`t they brothers?

  • Yes.

  • EVGA is pronounced by letters..

  • @oORlxOo well we all have our own ways of saying things

  • nice vista....

  • Next time you benchmark a card, don't do it on a crappy little 19 inch monitor, people have at least a 22" monitor nowdays, 5850 comes through in resolution.

  • test were done on a 22 inch at 1680x1050 - perhaps the most commonly used resolution today.

  • I notice all Nvidia cards are best for FSX.

  • all you wear are nautica

  • Wait for "fermi" it will be Directx 11 and will have full 3d surround abilities up to 3 screens

  • Bottom line always but Nvidia cards and always buy the evga versions because they have the best service and the best drivers.

  • @soccersport ati cards have much better drivers and much better thermal control, and over clock, and better memory and caches, they just destroy nvidia

  • It is true that Ati is ahead of nvidia in the memory aspect but, nvidia will have 2-6 gigabytes of GDDR5 ram on all new cards. Completely dwarfing Ati

  • @soccersport Dont believe the hype.

  • Its not hype the CEoo said so in his interview. If i'm wrong e-mail me back confirming i'm wrong.

  • thats awesome!

  • As always the ATI cards are known for their crappy drivers. Nvidia always has the best cards and the best drivers.

  • The name of the graphics card company is E. V. G. A. pronounced by the letter not the entire word

  • Great to see another review. thanks for the vid

  • lol, you wear that Nautica shirt EVERY single video lol.

  • I did a few videos in one sitting (next video too...)

Yes...i do have lots of nautica shirts lol...

  • ahh ok.

  • i have an ASUS HD4870.. personally think it's a better buy. you can overclock to 800Mhz on the GPU speed and 4400 Mhz on the memory..

  • very nice

  • Nice video 5/5, some very useful information, great review.
