  • @krasnyploshad9

Alas, Ry is a commie himself.

  • its like doing yer own thing!!

  • real deal...no frills...

  • Gotta love Flaco's accordian mixed into this...VERY COOL !!!

  • Ry has THE BEST back up singers in the whole world!

  • @2c4u222 (If you ever see a cd by Bobbie King and Terry Knight, don't pass it up. They are sooooooo good!)

  • love it the best

  • Ry Cooder is one of a kind and I can't wait to hear "Pull up some dust....." I would be happy to have a tenth of his talent. (or a hundredth)

He never fails to amaze me.

  • What a band! It is called soul. Monster group!

  • Ry always knows who to partner with. Note Flaco Jiminez on accordian adding that Norteno flavor.

  • Boy, I'd love to hear a slide guitar jam with Ry, Sonny Landreth, Roy Rogers, John Mooney and Camile Badouin from the Radiators. Slide guitar heaven!!!!

  • @1blastman Throw in Bonnie Raitt and you're there.

  • @RBShea Absolutely - Bonnie is one of my favorite female performers - Bonnie, Sonny and John Mooney could do the vocals.

  • @1blastman dont forget luther dickenson

  • @cosmicuz He's also very welcome to come in. I don't to see him enough.

  • 4 people have got nothing but rubber heels.

  • The Stones did an album with him, though. Jamming with Edward.

  • @4:54

    classic.

  • Anybody know if this is available on dvd? The whole show is fantastic!

  • @medicalmick : a friend of mine even called les and was told that it was not released in USA; he got a copy from ?south america which only played on his computer; i saw it and the quality was poor (darker than this utube video which actually is a step up from the dvd i saw....

  • @caseykja thanks casey!!

  • My name is Ry I'm from Australia and my dad named me after Ry Cooder when he was a pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force during the late 70s and early 80s and guess what - my woman is crazy 'bout my automobile.

  • Seen Cooder in London years ago. He played three and a half hours straight. No breaks, with a towel around his neck. Good value top skills

  • Wow - I was at this performance! Don't even remember it being filmed - but back then I spent a lot of nights out I don't remember all the details of - if you know what I mean - and I think you do. Been a huge Ry fan since back in the day. The Catalyst is the BEST night club on the west coast - the list of legendary performers and unforgettable nights is too long to even be believed. We locals are SO blessed...

  • @3dtrix makes me so jealous to be just a 20 year old girl stuck in the north east of england! I'll make it to the West Coast one day...

  • @BethBist whahaha im going with you! =D

  • just sizzlin'

    shoop, shoop, n'doop n'do-wah

  • Right on CindyBooty. I'm straight, but Ry, OH ME.

  • The older i get the more I appreciate "the good ol' days!

Lifting my glass of prune juice to toast the new year to you my old friend.

  • I said WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY SHOES???

  • So there is this.AWESOME.Im sorry did you miss it? AWESOME.

  • this man is awesome a massive talent

  • ry play so good REALLY GOOD!!

  • Flaco Himenez on accordian BTW. Saw this great bunch of musicians on tour around '72. Still works for me. BAD ASS MUSIC!!! Multicultural, talented, friendly group. Thanks for the post, friend

  • It's true that the Stones considered Ry for joining after Brian Jones left the band in May/June 1969. Ry is a fantastic musician, no doubt about it. However, he wasn't right for the Stones. Mick Taylor was a wonderful fit for a few years. Ry went on to make some beautiful music and everyone lived happily ever after.

  • Soy rockanrolero...me miró los zapatos y dijo, "andas a pie...sácate".

  • 1981, Guthrie Theater (in the round), South Mpls; as good of a small concert as I've ever seen.

  • Those are some sexy niggas in the b/r singing there! And that beat has me bouncing!

  • It's called "Rock and Roll"

  • That's the way the girls are down here in Texas.

  • @sgpnc thats the way girl are everywhere!

  • ry always looks confused about that musical implement. the rest of the bands jaws dropped when he took it past the bridge. that guitar is in charge of that man. fanks

  • you or ry. i know the reason why it,s just fredeckulus

  • why does cuba think ry is to loud? ry takes the worlds attenshion towardscuba. let the man go. then everybodysees cuba eesy... ry doesnt join a band. it happens, cant you not hear. anybody inthehear answer. i cant believe that ry has done anything wrong

  • why does cuba think ry is to loud? ry takes the worlds attenshion towardscuba. let the man go. then everybodysees cuba eesy

  • I remember singing along with this song to my dad's records when I was 3 or 4 years old! It was a record with a bullfighting naked lady on the front cover.... I was addicted to this and "The Girls from Texas". I've now found my way back as a 26 year old. Good stuff.

  • This man is an observer and translator of the greatest epoc in musical history--the music of the 2nd half of the 20th century. These were the only humans in history who really cared about and recorded the music of prior generations.-This was the era of the people's music, just before the capitalist ,corporate vultures degraded it! Ry is interested in the music of our Earth and the human race!

  • Every once in a while I leaf through my old LP collection and two albums seem to find their way to my turntable, both Ry Cooder albums, "Borderline" and "Bop Till You Drop". I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to hear real music by real musicians. My wonderful news is that I now have a USB turntable and have recorded these two records to one CD! Amazing...

  • OMG. Fantastic!! Today people use the term superstar far too loosely. Ry is a true superstar. Talent, appeal, longevity, he has it all in spades and more.

  • While music today sucks (that's an understatement), The abundance of epic music that emerged out of the 60s and the 70s is enough to keep my musical appetite satiated.

My jaw drops every time I find a new piece of art from that era. Literally, I needed to get some ice after watching this song 5 times straight.

  • The coolest of he cool .

  • 252 thumbs ups...there should be another seven zeros added on. Thanks again mbroders.

  • Every artist has some songs that are the best possible fit for them. This is one of Ry's perfect songs. The band/backup guys are FANTASTIC with him. Amazing.

  • On a rien inventé les derniers 30 ans ...He rocks !

  • great music ! I grew up with it, thanks dad :)

  • i really like this song but the corny piano ruins it for me

  • Flaco Jimeniz on accordion.

  • Would someone please be able to do me a copy of this amazing gig on DVD?

  • I saw Ry Cooder in the 80's opening for, ummmm, that's right, I don't remember. Great show at the Cow Palace. What a great show!

  • About #7 on Rolling Stone List of Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Is He in the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame? If not, what a Travesty Never though there might be something better than Bruce & E St but this mgiht be it..man for man

  • Hey people! I pissed myself. Beauty of beauties!

  • I had this concert in Santa Cruz ( bootleg )many years ago. Sorry Ry for buying the bootleg!!! Has this been officially released since then ?

  • The film maker told me it was only released in Europe, never in the states, do you know where I might obtain a copy on Video Tape or DVD, this is one of the best things I've ever seen, I have no problem buying bootleg.........Thanks a lot

  • wipe the windwows

    check the oil

    dollar gas

    shupe-shupe-b-do-mm-do-oop

    (thank you william r. emerson)

  • They once asked Ry to join the Rolling Stones...he declined. I've always been very happy about that.

  • @frederickus

Seriosly, they did? Can't believe that, they (the Stones) couldn't live up to his standards even if they wanted...there's no measure to this man! Never listened to a musician with such incredible broad interssions in music as Ry, he's my big hero!

  • Comment removed

  • @frederickus Who the fuck is they? Did ya dig this outta ya nose? They twice asked me to join the flat earth society....I declined, so your position in the society is safe. Don't protect your source/s ya ain't wiki leaks. Maybe they asked Ry (who is one of my favorite people) to join them having a joint. Maybe they asked him to join them on a tour. But to join?? Pass the bong. Correct me if you will. Peace. \m/

  • @TheTrickzta its a fact man, the stones asked ry to join

  • @shademonger13 I don't want to argue about jackshit, Ry played on Jamming with Edward the Stones except Keith, I was a member of the fan club in the late 60s, I've read almost all the books they've published. Stone Alone by Bill who kept notes & newspaper articles in scrapbooks & have never heard about your claim. Please state your source/s or give it up, I'm bored already. Peace.

  • @frederickus the rolling who?

  • @frederickus me too...

  • This band had a case for the being he best band (man for man)ever put together in rock n roll, saw them live, just sensational and so uplifting!

  • jhonnie, jhonnie, jhonnie b go

  • jhonnie b. g ....

  • Got a great, greasy feel.

  • LOVE IT!!

  • This is "Real" music...the rest is a consequence...

    Tx.

  • Awesome, Not that it matters but has Ry got a lazy or even a glass eye???

  • Yes. He lost an eye at age 4.

  • this one never fails to cheer me up

  • Wow. What a band! That's Flaco Jimenez on accordion, certainly one of the great accordion players of all time. Not to mention Jim Keltner and Van Dyke Parks...

  • I love ' how can a poor man.." and 'Irene goodnight' but this guitar solo beats it!!

Somebody should put the entire film in a torrent..

  • They were gonna put him in the Stones but he turned 'em down!

  • cool....

  • Get to see Ry whenever you can, he's very special, a guitarists guitarist. I've seen good session men who cannot play his stuff, too difficult.

  • I don't know this band But i like the song!! It's DELICIOUS

  • the moulah banda and chcken skin bands where the best bands in the world all down to cooder and his amzing mates

  • just love this stuff

  • COOL...¡

  • jammin with edward dudes and dudesees, with mick, long time ago in a dazed ergot of orange sunshine at laguna from nam bitch

  • Absolutely superb! After listening to him for nearly 40 years, I am off to see him for the first time and Nick Lowe in Brisbane Queensland Australia on 21/11/09. Can't wait!!

  • WOW...!

  • totally blown out dudes and dudesses

  • Willie Green's 'SWEETWATER' Mill Valley cap is THE BEST!!! I lived there from '73-'81... Super place during the hippy times!! Now, 17 years in Kiev... Biden said we have the best women last week... It's why all the 'rock' groups come for a visit!! Including Ry...

  • so strange I've heard his music for years but I've never seen him before--he's good

  • Ry, an American Treasure.

  • I saw him last night in Liverpool (UK). An absolutely amazing gig, and I don't say that about every show I go to. Nick Lowe was aiding and abetting him, and Ry was on incredible form, vocally and especially on guitar. Doesn't get around as quickly as he used to, apart from on that fretboard.

  • I was there too! I thought Vigilante Man was just perfect. I didn't think much of the support band though...

  • I didn't watch the support - sat in the foyer reading The Great Gatsby! Heard a couple of people saying they weren't up to much though. VM was great, you're right - he seemed to do a Dylan on his songs, in that I didn't recognise them until about two minutes in! One of the gigs of the year.

  • They've been playing Ry Cooder a lot on XM50 "The Loft" recently. My musician friend tells me he's one of the great musicians. I'm surprised more people haven't heard of him. Great stuff!

  • Man oh man, that is so slick! Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!!

The only musician "missing" is David Lindley (and HIS new shoes).

  • Give yourself`s a treat ,and go see him in concert just the best

  • Totally Kyiv, Ukraine!!!!!!! But they soooooooooo good lookin' ;-)))))))))

  • You wanna go to Vera cruz if your having a bad time there, but you will need some New Shoes to get there.

  • superb!

  • so do i

  • i want to play like ry

  • all u kids out there this is music listen and learn the shit u hear today can't hold a candle to this. i defy 1 musician today to even be able to play one note with these guys.take all those headbangers with there 1 chord and screaming they call singing and listen to what playin and the vocals ..................ah my hero ry!!!!

  • Well I'm a headbanger and I think this music ROCKS too! So I guess diversity is key.

  • Here I Am Standin With Nuthin Butta Rubber Heel !!

  • Must be Flaco Jiminez on diatonic squeeze box.

  • SUPERB! Thanks!

  • Bobby King and Terry Evans really rock! I saw em in a small club in the early 90's and they blew me away w the tightness of their show.Listen to the Crossroads movie too

for the part where the Devils gtr player duels w the Ralph Machio character great gospel singin AND Ry on gtr for

    Ralphs parts.........smokin!

  • Where can you go to hear Bobby and Terry? Can't find them ANYWHERE! :(

  • I'm going to see him in Belfast in June! So excited, I grew up listening to his stuff!

  • this is the weirdest song i have ever heard

  • you're funny

  • Great video. This has a lot to do with the history of the american music. This is about the blues/cajun and slide guitar by the master,Ry.And please mind the huge vocal demonstration, delicious.

    I was looking for this song for almost 30 years.Thanks Mbroders,for sharing.Hugs from Portugal,J.G.

  • Hey...Randy Newman on bass? How cool is that?

Ry's got so much up his musical sleave. Humour, kindness, love, empathy, camaraderie...these guys have a lot of fun on stage and it translates right to the audience.

    Beautiful!!

  • Actually, while there is a resemblance to Randy Newman, the bass player is Jorge Calderon, who has also recorded and toured with El Rayo X, David Lindley's band.

  • Thanks for hippin me to the error of my ways, I shoulda known that.

And as far as all those clown dissin Ry Cooder for workin with Cuban musiicians? They don't seem to realize that music transcends politics. Perhaps they don't actually realize where N Americano music actually comes from.

    Thanks for sharing your stuff.

  • yes one of the most respected if not the most repspected guitarist of the century. love ya ry. you make a guitar talk. keep it up

  • Steve Douglas on Sax...he died during a Cooder recording session.

  • Cooder-r-r-r-r!!!!!

  • I saw them in London too, but I couldn't remember what year it was,so thanks for reminding me. Fabulous night, I wish he still toured.

Barack should get him to play at the inauguration: he's done so much for American music.

  • I saw Ry Cooder and these singers (with John Hiatt) in London in 1980 and next day my face HURT from smiling so much, I'll never forget it.

  • I totally understand! :))))))))))

  • I wish the video were available on DVD; I would buy it in a heartbeat. I would be afraid to show my friends as it would obviate how I suck by comparison. Thanks for postin mbroder and thank you Ry for all the spectacular musical genius.

  • Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!!!

  • oh, those Hispanics........

  • Thank's.

  • ry cooder=the greatest guitarist ever

  • Ry is and always has been one of the smartest and insightful musicians and educators I've ever met! The end!!!!!

  • The world's best back-up singers. Almost an insult to call them that, they're so good.

  • New Shoes,I love em.

  • SWEET! great vid! More, more!!!!!

  • Just read the info..in Santa Cruz with Flaco Jimenez on accordion! Great! I miss KFAT!!!

  • What in the hell are these anti-commie and anti-Ry nutjobs doing watching these videos for? Is their DNA twisted the wrong way? Are they incontinent or bowel obstructed?

  • Thank goodness for the commies, if naked capitalism US of A style is anything to go by

  • wish i'd been there

  • in the kingdom of the blind, Ry cooder is king!

  • Ry has one eye. He's not blind.

  • thank God he ditched those Castro apologists from that Buena Vista Social Club! Obama'll get that hell hole invaded like the Rupublican pussys shoulda done years ago and restore naked capitalism to the grateful people of that sorry island. Not as funky as the Jim Keltner record version but it'll do mf...

  • Er..I think that's been tried before Typper ol fruit without much success. The most depressing part of it is Cooder's America has all but vanished, leaving the kind of oafish braying you display to pack that hell-bound handbasket.

  • Absolutely superb! Probably as close as I will get to seeing the legend live. Presumably from the 1987 concert?

  • Does anyone know where to buy the Ry videos that are here?

  • He looks like Scarface you cock-a-Roche's

  • Ry Cooder is a little reclusive. His reasons for taking off the videos may not have to do with royalties. He was blinded in one eye as a four year old boy. He may be sensitive about that. Anyway, I'm very glad to see him play because I just love his music and the way he supports other musicians.

  • a guitar god who showcases vocals..&..look at them you know that's a badassed band.

  • Ever Thought How YOUR Rock Combo would cope If a Dictatorship Took Power Unexpectedley...?

  • degenerate rhythms, but the fuhrer says he can live with them.....

  • Looks like Al Pacino!

  • He looks like Silvester Stalone. and he rocks hard.

  • no way 'dooie', it's because"dontstart" is a jester!, he knows better than to say anything to anybody on google utube!

  • koooooooooooooooool

  • Ry cooder took the videos off youtube but that microsoft guy put em back on.

  • All righty there! Sounds like you and your other two identites are just about to remember who the "microsoft guy" is.. and get him to step into the corn of Ry trashing.

    What a fantastic performance!

  • Ry cooder does not like his stuff to be up on utube. He would like to get payment from every single watcher or listener of his music.Thats why his career and his popularity is going to crash and burn. Rightly so might I add.

  • so..you seem to be the anti-ry since you appear on many posts as the man you trash except in capital letters...such a negative person you are, and to broadcast threats before the public means that at least you aren't a lawyer...only a fool

  • Many posts DICKHEAD? How many? Your FUCKED IN THE HEAD. WHY DONT YOU GATHER UP A POSSE OF LEGAL DIPSHITS

  • Ry was recording when your daddy was a teenager so he's already had a very long career...glad you have finally come to save the day and rid the world of genuine honest music. Heck, in another 20 years you'll be old enough to run for president with the Oatmeal party - to heck with Ry, a dandy slogan.

  • What a fantastic performance from a fantastic band. Ry Cooder is my main man that's for sure! If this doesn't get your feet a movin' and your hips a shakin' ya'll are already dead and gone!

    Pic

  • Huh? What on earth did you just say? Sounds like you're warming some shit for dinner or something....

Either way, no amount of inane comments can detract from a brilliant musician and song.

  • Yes this is stunningly beautiful stuff. All of this Ry stuff & this is the greatest rock and roll band in the world. He always puts such great bands together. Best live performer I ever saw. The concert I saw some 30 odd years ago brought tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful.

  • What makes Cooder one of the best guitarists in the earth is that he is completely un showy in his playing.

  • At least for just this night its the greatest rock band in the world ---

    This is amazing .....

  • Ry is the guy....great style...
