Thanks for sharing. As a family doctor I totally agree that stopping smoking tends to make you put on weight. No easy way round this, best advice is to kill the smokig, accepot some wight gain but try to minimise it. Get advice.
I'm overweight mself, struggling to diet, dont give up it can be done.
I can't understand why you're primary did not send you to a cardiologist immediately. I was born with a valve defect, a bicuspid aortic valve. My pediatrician, at the time, was able to hear a murmur and had me sent to a cardiologist. I've been going to one ever since every two years. I'm expected to need open heart surgery when I'm 50.
I'm not sure when I had my first heart attack....but the one that got my attention came at 47. I thought it was just another round of reflux, but my wife insisted on taking me to the ER. EKG's showed damage from at least one prior episode. 60 hours later and I'm in a cath-lab, 2 blockages, but only 1 stent....because like you, my body made it's own bypass around one of the blocks. Now at age 50, I'm within a year or so of open heart surgery due to a congenital valve defect/aortic anuerism.
What's up with your pants in this video, Richard? Your left pants leg is hiked up, where your right one is down. Other than that, Richard, great video!! :)
Advice on quitting smoking would be most appreciated. This video has really made me sit up and take notice. I should know better as I have a bicuspid aortic valve, i know, smoking's not gonna help any!! It's the only vice I have!!
Awesome story Mr Hunter, especially since the scope of my practice is heart failure, caths, transplants, bypass. I can totally relate to ur story. Glad ur still with us!
That is great advise about getting recomendations before getting a surgery done. I would add that you should do that for smaller things too. I once had a chipped tooth and gave a new dentist a try. Well, now half my mouth of fake. I am sure he could had done better if he was not flirting with the nurse as much.
You wanna talk about quacks, one such "surgeon" (barely fit to be a butcher) paralyzed my favorite uncle and put another relative in a coma. And, he did that shit to 5 other people. My family is still fighting that legal battle 5 years later. Obviously, it's infuriating, but can't exactly put a scalpel up his ass.
As far as my own surgeries, they were pretty traumatic, but not debilitating. I would still never, ever do them again. The things that were done cannot be mentioned.
ooohhh mmm to complicated. Cardio the heart is aerobic totlally miacondrial ADT burns no sugar only fat (basically). Here is a tip eat no fats for 4 hrs after cardio exercise sugars ok no fat. Doing this you will burn fat that whole 4 hrs, A few french fries will turn off fat burning. Wow that Vioxx really killed the pain abd no high. We should have known it was wicked.
Thanks for sharing your story, and Albee4ty5's too; this is life saving information, and a serious wake up call for many of us! I've never heard of someone who worked out seriously and smoked, sounds funny. God bless you Hunter!
Glad to hear you're doing well. In Jan. 2009 I found out I had diabetes, six months later I had heart attack at the ripe old age of 44. My doc put in 4 stints. While in hospital my doc tells me that I also have problems w/ heart rhythm and need more surgery. 2009 sucked for me!!! Oh well, it is what it is.
That was a great story. Glad for you that very thing worked out for the best. I also quit smoking about a year and a half ago. It was one of the hardest things to do. This year I have been working diligently to remove the weight I added from quitting smoking. All in all I can relate to this story to the most part. Thanks for sharing.
Yay!! old skool style!! my grandad had a heart attack a long time ago, idk how old he was, but he's 87 now, and still doing good, he cut out all the cholesterol in his diet, up until recently, his wife cooked every meal for him, but now my aunt and uncle have started to take care of them. Recently though, he has been out of breath again, and sure enough, they had to put a stint in his artery...
I mentioned my good friend having a heart recently, its scary as hell since she w lot haltier than I am...I have realy been trying to be helthier lately...moving more walking and eating a bit better...
Damn Richard, sounds like you went through the ringer with your experience. Good it came out OK in the end. Thanks for the support..I definitely appreciate ya. PS..I want a cigarette!!!
Oh man, so much in common too, I'm 38 right now going in 39 in a couple of months. In 2006 I had one lower back injury, was off for 45 days, then I went back to work, 6 months later, boom I had two crushed discs due to a traumatic event that set the gears in motion. I had a double fusion surgery at 35, 7.5hrs on the table, 5 days in the hospital with over 6 months recovery. All was going well until a Titanium screw broke, the fusion wasn't healing right causing a torquing motion and stress.
@fjcaron So my first surgeon was in limbo after changing locations and my insurance wasn't good with him, so I went to an alternative, a nutty doctor! I was in agony, had X-rays, MRI's and dye CT's, they missed the broken screw in the CT, not until I read the report and found it myself. Finally went back to my original doctor and after another CT to double check I finally had the hardware replaced with larger stuff and one extra, not his fault just the way things worked, another five days in.
@fjcaron So they told me on the second go around I was diabetic, weight was up and down, I had a urinary tract infection, etc. So i'm doing better, though on a big flare up now, in between also had surgery to my left foot and my right knee is screwed up, same as you. The weight is up and down, up and down, it's very hard and being slightly immobile causes more weight gain, so now I'm looking at Bariatric surgery to alleve some of the issues. Sorry for rambling, good video, thanks.
I Try To Limit Myself To Fish/Peanut Products, Fresh Veggies (From The Garden), And Rice... But It Probably Only Counters The Beer, Cigarettes, And Gummi Bears...
Luckily Im Only 26, So There Is Time To Change.
Anyways, I Know You Got It In You To Stay Healthy, I See Your Veggie Gardening, Dont Forget To Exercise & Outdoor Stress Relief...
Bro., We have so much in common it amazing. I too had major knee surgery, mine did not go right and I ended up having a total of 7 minor surgeries on my knee. Bottom line is I need a new knee, I still walk with a limp and am suppose to use a cane. I too had a heart attack in December of 09 and then had more chest pains and ended up with 2 stents total and I still am battling smoking. I have a lot of dead heart tissue and I am on a crap load of Meds. I also am a huge Right wing wacko. lololol.
5***** I would like to see your thoughts on quiting smoking. I have been wanting to quit for a while but I don't want to loose my wife in the process.( I get very aggravated and irritated when I don't smoke)
Great video MBV,please make a video on avoiding heart problems.my dad has been plagued with heart problems and has had numerous stents put in and had that radioactive test and the dye test done.So i understand the importance of looking after your body.
How is your knee now? I have a torn ACL in my left knee. After six months, I still have some difficulty running. I haven't had surgery though. I don't have insurance, so I just never did anything about it other than the initial doctor visits. Anyway, I think I want the reconstructive surgery (when I can afford it), but I'm not sure if I'd be better off not taking the risk.
I have had the cath lab treatment. Twice actually. Once to determine whether I had a blocked artery or not and the other to install a stent. I'll attach a video response here that has the photos of the cath results before and after the stent so people can see what we are talking about. What do you call the guy who completed med school last in his class?......... Doctor....
