a remarkable question this film translates in its visual dialogue asking what is love? her beauty and sadness breaks a heart, he holds all of her cards passing each one back to her, slowly - captive, captivated, captives, captured
Yes, you are right. I am french and for me voluptéé
is definitely more associated with lust.. And sensualité may be more prone to represent a wider range of states related to the senses . In fact, the word has 2 definitions in Larousse french dico 2007, 1. pleasure of the senses or sexual pleausre 2. Moral satisfaction.
I always like when someone make me learn something new,
NICE! that shows through the acting....in fact when I read the word "sensuality" it threw me off and I "felt" the meaning "lust" come through! THIS IS GREAT ART!
Because I love you, Everything moves.

i think this is [was] Godard at his best. don't know why this scene works, but it does. Anna's beauty certainly helps.
for me, only Alphaville and Masculin/Feminin have held up after all these years.

"volupté" doesnt mean "sensuality" ,it's a more kind of vicious word
kashmic 4 years ago
Yes, it doesn't mean "sensuality", it means something like "lust" or "voluptuous". In portuguese it means "volúpia".
