I'm not sure why in this discussion about his ailing vocals people are so concerned with hearing Ticks & Leeches. Sure, the song f'n WAILS -- but I think what separates Maynard from other rock vocalists (and always has) is his ability to sing softer melodies over insanely hardcore music, i.e. The Hollow, Lateralus, Eulogy, Orestes, etc. He does that better than ANYONE. If seeing him nowadays means not getting screams, so be it.

Sad to hear him say that about his voice, but, considering he's what, 47 or 48, he does pretty well considering he's been singing his lungs off for about twenty years.

Well i guess hearing Maynard sing "Ticks and Leaches" is out of the question when he comes to australia :-( When maynard's voice goes and is no longer able to sing, that is going to be a devestating blow to music as we know it.

@etho86 Tool will most likely never perform Ticks and Leeches again, because after the recordings of it, Maynards voice was destroyed for a while, they have performed it 2 or 3 times live, there are a couple bootlegs out there. But that was just what I heard from other people, unlikely to happen again.

@xReinhartx Its unfortunate we may never hear it live again. But I just watched Tool last week here in Oz, and he still sounded amazing. Not as powerful as he once was, but is still able to hit the notes. Think he is now aware of his vocal ranges and stays within his ability :-D

@Pusshit His voice was just fine in November 2002, heard him then (for the 6th time) AND HE WAS THE BEST VOCALLY I HAD HEARD HIM SINCE 96. he was giving everything from the studio and MORE! Somewhere BETWEEN 02 and 06 he decided to start taking it easy on live performances. Heard him last year and it was hard to tell how he would have really sounded without the effects.

@Stinkfist43 I think he has sounded very good from the recording's i have heard from this tour, definitely not 100% like the albums, and he is having a little trouble with Mer de noms, but that comes with age. I think he has become more comfortable with how his vocals are these days which shows with Puscifer and he just cant show it with this old material.

@Stinkfist43 He didn't say he can't sing anymore, he's saying that Mer De Noms was him 10 years ago pushing his vocals to as far as they can go. And now 10 years later it's hard to replicate that.
