She's not trying to make it cute and sweet, dude. Step off. She has a beautiful voice and just because she doesn't sing it exactly like Zevon did or sound like Zevon doesn't mean its a bad cover. In fact, a cover shouldnt be an attempt to do it exactly the same way because thats boring.

She sings a bit like Joan Baez, I think, so her covering Zevon is like Baez singing Dylan's "Blowin in the Wind". This a good cover. Nice job.

im pretty sure I said her voice was decent because it is. Problem is she is singing the song as if its a feel good lets all hold hands around a camp fire cute song. Its not. Its just a harsh song that when sang the way she does it has no feeling or no power at all. Again she can sing yes but her voice is not for this song. Im glad she likes Warren but she could have picked a more upbeat Warren song.

It is referent to the bush wars in africa... the metaphors are seemingly endless. an owed to the thompson gun an owed to mercanaries, a paradigm of third world conflict, the involved of the CIA in third worlds, the cynical notion of violent protest, I mean you really can pick the song apart. If you examine it as a ballad tho its about a merc fighting in the rhodesian wars.
