You are correct.....to some degree. There were fish in many of the west side streams/lakes. But many streams on the Eastside that did not have fish in them. None of the high Mt. Lakes had fish. Unless some douche bag carries them over the fish barrier.

The only native fish in the Sierra is the Piute trout. There were never any fish in the high mt. lakes of the sierra. The only reason there are/were big fish in the sierra because they had a food supply, that would evently will not last. IF you were to ask me, I would say eat all the fish you can. Just dont kill the native fish.

@pnutbutrncrackers I'm in Colorado, but lived 15 years in CA (southern & the central coast). I'm saddened (& surprised) if what you say about the attitude of Alaskans toward bald eagles is true. Always a special treat when I see one (which I did the other day). I thought goldens had that mystique even out where you are, especially big ones, no? I've got to keep mum on where I hope to pursue them, but if you know about goldens, and now know where I live, you'd probably guess (don't post it).

Was very impressed with the Western side though. Took a quick tour through there, would like to go back. Loved Maroon Bells, Telluride, Ouray ... so pretty.

Personally I love Colorado. You mentioned some great spots, and there are many more. Not sure anything can quite hang w/the Tetons (WY) for my $, however. Sublime beauty.

I know nothing about being naked with another man in the sierra, but I never keep big backcountry fish and that could be anything over 12 inches, depending on the lake and especially pure golden. Most of the fish on this vid look like hybrids which means the rainbows will be taking over in a matter of time. This cross breeding has been happening all over the sierra. Fish at high elevation have no bugs to eat so they eat anything including each other. Keep on fishing.

The golden trout up in the lakes were found to have been crossed with rainbow trout accidently before they were stocked, so they are not pure golden trout. That being said, it would have been nice for these guys to realize these lakes get a lot of visitors and fishing pressure. If you want to have good fishing in the future you should thank those who fished before you for releasing their catch.

The bigger the fish, the more eggs produced, you killed large rare breeding stock. The brookies you killed are prolific throughout the state, and voracious predators of native fish like GT. Whick makes harvesting them acceptable no matter the size.

@coolhud Yeah, we found a huge trout in the late, Fall effluent... not much water. It was stuck in a small pocket of water between lakes and I mean really small, part of its body was beginning to stick out of the water. So we repaid our karma dues by scooping it up in the yellow, vinyl bucket and planting it downstream a bit where it could thrive.

You are correct.....to some degree. There were fish in many of the west side streams/lakes. But many streams on the Eastside that did not have fish in them. None of the high Mt. Lakes had fish. Unless some douche bag carries them over the fish barrier.

The only native fish in the Sierra is the Piute trout. There were never any fish in the high mt. lakes of the sierra. The only reason there are/were big fish in the sierra because they had a food supply, that would evently will not last. IF you were to ask me, I would say eat all the fish you can. Just dont kill the native fish.

All but one of the trout in the video are in better than average condition for trout living at high elevation where the growing season is measured in weeks instead of months. The shape of these trout should never be compared with hatchery fish.

Funny how we've got two different conversations going here (that's cool). I think "acceptance" is one of those extremely slippery words that is essential to define. It can mean "accepting" that such a thing is reality (obvious), "accepting" a person as one whom God loves, and so should we (definitely agree), or "accepting" something as perfectly irreproachable (which in this case I do not). The creation (specifically humanity) is fallen and imperfect in many ways, but that doesn't equal license.

Always a special treat when I see one (which I did the other day). I thought goldens had that mystique even out where you are, especially big ones, no? Personally I love Colorado. You mentioned some great spots, and there are many more. Not sure anything can quite hang w/the Tetons (WY) for my $, however. Sublime beauty.

I know nothing about being naked with another man in the sierra, but I never keep big backcountry fish and that could be anything over 12 inches, depending on the lake and especially pure golden. Most of the fish on this vid look like hybrids which means the rainbows will be taking over in a matter of time. This cross breeding has been happening all over the sierra. Fish at high elevation have no bugs to eat so they eat anything including each other. Keep on fishing.

The golden trout up in the lakes were found to have been crossed with rainbow trout accidently before they were stocked, so they are not pure golden trout. That being said, it would have been nice for these guys to realize these lakes get a lot of visitors and fishing pressure. If you want to have good fishing in the future you should thank those who fished before you for releasing their catch.

Instead of bashing again, im going to take time to educate. Golden trout are coveted, and only occur at high elevations 9k+, pure strain GT like the ones you caught are rare. The bigger the fish, the more eggs produced, you killed large rare breeding stock. The brookies you killed are prolific throughout the state, and voracious predators of native fish like GT. Whick makes harvesting them acceptable no matter the size.

It was stuck in a small pocket of water between lakes and I mean really small, part of its body was beginning to stick out of the water. So we repaid our karma dues by scooping it up in the yellow, vinyl bucket and planting it downstream a bit where it could thrive.

Hah! That's funny. Guess I never paid that close attention to the song. Here I thought it was just a nice folksy tune to accompany the vid. Ah well, seems sooner or later every outdoor adventure's gotta turn into some kinda Brokeback Mountain homage. Very astute observation, thanks for the heads up.

these guys should be banned from ever fishing for the goldens again! its disgusting to see them being killed. Also they should turn themselves in to the DFG for illegally transplanting fish. these two are real P.O.S.

Okay, sorry I shoulda started with the caveat: This Ain't No Vegetarian Vid. But I see what'cher saying, guess we should only kill Brookies, Browns, Rainbows & the other types. Oh and as for the "illegally transplanting fish", maybe a little less caffeine there Sherlock... It was just a trout stuck in the effluent on same body of water. What you saw was the happy little fellers rescue transplanting him from where he was dying back into the lake. See, totally balances the karma dude! ;-)
