  • Bird's opening? WTF?

  • I knew he was going to shake his head in the middle game or end game..

  • Why does Nakamura keep playing with the captured pieces?

  • @SamuelKGB He's going to promote his pawn into an enemy pawn

  • three fold repetition? 10:00

  • tablas o que =?

  • this may sound like an exsseselvey ignorant question to fill my curiosity but who won?

  • @nicoeste8765 It is a draw. Nakamura is grimacing, because he can't get his king through to support an advance of his pawn from e6 to the queening square, and that's the only chance he has to win.

  • @timothy51886 lost???

  • wen r those kids doin their homewrk?..

  • Funny how the opening sequence was extremely tick-tock and rhythmic. But you know that you've entered the end-game as soon as Nakamura starts slamming that clock.

  • i still believe karjakin has the potential to be the best chess player. Karjakin vs Carlsen will be the next great rivalry in the future i believe

  • @nataschmidtt Yes I do aggree in the potential matter, yet Carlsen has got the greatest modern natural talent and this two playes very ralerly play each other whilest the greatest rivalry Kasparov-karpov was very common.

I will like to see more Carlsen-Karjakin games posted.....

  • Nakamura is the less interesting player of chess. He is like a chines tank go forward all the time. Ultra mega bored.

  • i love naka's utter disdain for draws ....people like peter leko ( draw master) almost ruined chess 10 years ago.

  • could anyone see anything ?

  • Nakamura is confident in his ability to beat anyone. That is not arrogance. His outward displays of frustration are not directed at his opponents, but at himself, for not finding the correct line to victory from an advantageous position.

  • @bendkafka yet.. its logic to also think by his displays: "how did i just lost adventage to this inferior guy?" it is arrogance, wich btw im not saying its wrong, even myself do it sometimes

  • @bendkafka not arrogance? he is using the bird´s opening in a world championship match against GM´s of 2600 to 2800; if that´s not arrogance then i dont know what it is;i mean i like Nakamura but he should grow up a little.Just watch him in his game against Mamedov and you will know what im talking about:)

  • @uchihadante77 Are you saying Grand masters can't use the bird's opening. That's like saying you cant eat chicken anymore. Besides blitz is also a mind game you want to confuse your opponent into making mistakes. He used the opening because no one expects him to do that opening. Its not childish its BLITZ you want to confuse you opponent and make him spend more time, as suppose to "playing by the book"

  • @Kasuh3 In a way you're right, but in a way you're wrong. In the 70s and even in the 80s an occasional 1.f4!? produced an upset, but these days the top players in computer training-games programme their computers to play say every 5th game an irregular opening and birds opening naturally comes up but is not really feared anymore, has been completely de-fanged, and most top players have their "pet-lines" ready for such off-beat openings. However, in BLITZ tournaments birds is CERTAINLY playable!

  • @janweltevreden It may not be feared, meaning people won't study it as often. To those who do study it will have an advantage in blitz since they don't have to calculate as much while the clock is ticking.

  • @Kasuh3 True, but birds opening just does not have "the 1st-move punch" that most white openings enjoy. Look at the stats, how many times does birds get played? Very rarely, and when played few players win with it, even at blitz. A better ranked player will usually win with it against a weaker opponent but thats because his middle-game and endings carry the day. Birds is not even a serious surprise weapon at club-level these days. Though that said our champ lost in a blitz final against it (!?)

  • @bendkafka I agree. All chess players seek "the best move" and the top-players even more so, hence nakas inner fury at himself for not finding it here. As for being arrogant? Compared to kasparov, nakamura is a choir boy in the arrogance league!

  • Nakamura acts as if he already holds the WCH title for several years...jeez ,wake up and smell the roses man...

  • It's Nakamura's style to choose uncommon and even rare openings just to confuse his opponents. This requires excellent opening preparation...

  • @stephenkingrules1 or just being a high class patzer:)).

  • Why did Nakamura give up?

  • @IdiosyncraticChild It was a draw by repetition

  • Karjakin plays chess better than I

  • Go Sergey!

  • Thank you for showing the game from the beginning.

  • 1. f4! Polar bear System a la GM Danielsen :D

  • @megaton12 1.f4 is Réti s game.

  • @MrPeto1212 1. f4 is the birds opening (or by another name, polar bear system). 1. Nf3 is the reti...

  • @MrPeto1212 1.f4 is no real surprise these days but boy did i get a nasty jolt right from the opening the other day in a $20 game of blitz. 1.d4 Nf6 (my usual reply.) 2.g4!? I nearly fell out of my chair. Never faced this before. Later i learned it's called the devins gambit. My cursed computer had never tested me with this and i'd never faced it.

After settling down, but with a priceless minute wasted, i lost quickly. I've since studied it from the black side and now have my pet lines ready.
