  • need to go bak home to devon :'(

  • i think its brill

  • typical folkest any artist that manages to appeal to the wider audience gets pulled to pieces

  • I cant find this acoustic version of the sang anywhere. Can some point me in the right direction plx?

  • Pop = 98,772,085 views = Friday, Rebecca Black = Sick, sad little world

Seth Lakeman = Pure musical talent, just go see him live

  • Super tolles Lied...!

  • I think it's beautiful, I understand that for some people style might be an issue, but I love the fact that he's using music as a medium to carry a story/legend that otherwise would be overlooked or unknown except in some parts of the world or as an obscure reference in a text book..

  • i went to see seth a few months back for my uncle, wasnt sure about it but he wanted to go and asked me to go with him, anyways it wasnt the sort of music that i would ever listen to, i like pop and stuff like that, but when he began to sing i felt somert, sounds wierd but its true, hes such an amazing singer and im going again wi my uncle to see him in scarbrough in may :)

id really recommend him to anyone :)

  • Brilliant

  • Nice tune. Think some people need to look up the meaning of pop music.

  • @guitargenius1234

sorry not getting your 'slightly pop bit, but totally agree about everything else........

i saw seth live at 'the Cornish' in Tavistock, devon and i have to admit it was the best night i ever had! and i have seen metallica, greenday, gnr monster magnet m. manson, blink 182 avril lavigne snow patrol........to name but a few.....

i love seths work and as a friend i wish him the best!

  • He has a really good voice and i like how he interprets songs.Good energy too. I have put him on my "To See" list.

  • Just saw Seth perform in Leicester Cathedral, a great gig and he is nice chap. He even found time to chat with us let my wife & I take a photo together with him. Completely the opposite to the miserable response we got from the arrogant sterophonics recently. SETH IS GREAT

  • It sounds really good, but watching him over act in the video is so off putting. Performance videos have been done and done and done and even in the beginning they were boring and unimaginative. A music video has such potential, and so often they get reduced to shitty performance pieces like this.

  • @acrobaticaromatic no offence to you but just thought you should know that seth's music isn't about looking good or making everything look or sound spectacular. his main focus is to move people with the lyrics. most of his songs are about true thngs that have happened, for example 'solomne brown'. learn to stop expecting so much, just shut up and listen to lyric for once.!

  • me loves :)

  • 'pretty boy and awful lyrics pop' .......Pop has it's roots in all kinds of music, folk included.

You can find songs written hundreds of years ago which, if given modern instrumentation and production wouldn't be out of place in today's market.

Melody and harmony haven't moved on that much in the last 500 years, or so. And, I'd bet that the reverse is true also, if you put many a modern day pop song in older clothes, so to speak, it would go un-noticed if it went back in time!

  • so is a tenor guitar usually tuned the same to a fiddle or mandolin?

  • @owainyebastards no seth tunes it GDGD

  • @owainyebastards tuned same as a viola

  • LOVE this so much <3

  • Great sound from the tenor guitar - goes perfectly with the song and Seth's voice.

  • i saw you at the great hall was amazing !! i love kitty jay :)

  • He's amazing! I'm gonna see him at Komedia in Bath on the 14th of May! Can't wait!! :-)

  • i love this song so much <3

    and he's amazing live

  • I love this song too. I am going to see him on Sunday! :-)

  • This is so stunning, it took my breath away

  • OMG!! Beautiful!!

what is the instrument he is playing? sounds like the tuning of a guitar but it only has 4 strings?

  • @CrazydogProductions1 its a tenor guitar

  • it is a tenor guitar. (They only have 4 strings)

  • Yes Seth Lakeman! You guys should check out this new guy John Bull. Saw him the other day and he's got something good going on. Have a search for 'john bull john store'

  • Really worth seeing live, he's a great, honest performer, who believes in the music....

  • cool bloke....no pretentious shite here....great music

  • amazing X

  • more fabulous Lakeman he is a master of his craft at such a young age can't wait to see how he matures and develpoes as an artist over time. soothes my soul to hear him. amazing fabulous check out Bold Knight wow...................................

  • absoulutly love this song <3

    words a beautiful (:

  • I've seen him once and i was so close to the stage :D I love <3 him!!

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Great example of how good the tenor guitar can sound - such a shame we don't see and hear it more often.

  • Seth.... come to Brazil I wanna see you on stage!!!

    Love your songs and voice!!!!

  • awesome song

  • Amazing song beautifully sung. Fairly easy to play too, although I can't sing like Seth :s

  • Pop, folk? Who gives a shit?

  • ricky sent me,,, really not that great. he should have given zac brown 'chicken fried' a listen - absolute tune.

  • by 'ricky sent it to you' you mean you went on his blog and clicked on the link..?

  • No i mean we're best buds and he told me about the song in a hand written letter sending his love to me and my family.

  • you sad sad man

  • Yep ricky sent me... gotta try everything once

  • nah rubbish

  • If Ricky sent you here respond to this comment or give it a thumbs up x

    =)

  • great artist, fantastic live, and a modern folks man all the way

  • I agree this is slightly pop, but it has very folky roots and origins... I don't believe you can justify saying it is 'pretty boy and awful lyrics pop' the song is supposed to be a story about a Dartmoor legend. Also, he is not full of himself, if you want to see someone who is full of themselves type "Michael Flatley" into the search bar.

  • With regards to the lyrics, on the album sleve they are attributed as 'traditional'.

  • Yeah its supposed to be an old folk song about a witch the turns into a hare and looking into her eyes is......well..... inadvisable lol

  • How have his looks got a single thing to do with his music? Clearly you haven't actually listened to any Seth Lakeman or you would know what you were talking about ;)

  • whatever genre it is, dont mean you can call him a pretty boy and is full of himself?

Just cause its different music to what you like means you can insult him....and your calling him full of himself?

have you ever met him to come to this conclusion?

and not all pop has awful lyrics?

a slight case of narrow mindedness deary ;)

    laters

    x

  • @lisalisa12345 so you are saying this is pop because he is "a pretty boy" and full of himself (which he isn't). Derrr......... get a life! if u don't like it don't bother putting a comment. Dickhead

  • S'ok

  • I'm no expert on folk but to me this does sound more like folk tinged pop than anything else, maybe that's what modern folk is. *shrug*

    S'ok though.

  • Ricky sent me..

    He has good taste :)

  • Well, i leave this link Gervais posted thinking that he has to be joking. I don't know if that is the true or if he truly likes this so much. For me, this is certainly NOT the best modern folk...my god ricky, please tell us you're joking...

On the other hand, everyone got their own tastes.

In yet another hand, this realy sucks! ;)

  • @PanoramixTheDruid might have been two years ago but in all honestly.. this is fantastic, well put together song. hes signed by a big label, he has to adapt in some sort of way.

dont get me wrong, im a huge lau, kris drevr, kate rusby fan but this is one step further, this is taking the roots of folk music and expanding it.

  • Gervais clearly doesn't know what folk music is!

  • He does..

He said "modern English folk" the music certainly is folk and there's no question that the lyrics also are.

  • Too overproduced to be classified as folk imo! Sorry...

  • I'm not saying it isn't folk. But, in my humble opinion, ti is certainly NOT the best modern folk.

For me, this is not a great song and the man's voice is a bit annoying...

  • This is more pop than folk. Even modern folk is a stretch as far as i am concerned, but what do i know.

I am not a fan either way!

  • Ricky sent me here

  • ricky sent me

  • It's rubbish.

  • Yep. Disappointed Gervais didn't link to someone like Lau, or Spiers and Boden, who are actually folk, not this drivelly pop.

  • Lau are scottish.

  • Only two of them. No, I was forgetting it was for George's day. I'll stick with Bellowhead or Spiers and Boden then. Or Demon Barbers, Devil's Interval... All the good proper folk.

  • beautiful song

    really love it

    a lot

    x

  • your momma sent me here

  • me too!:)

    mans a genius.(Ricky)

  • i discovered this and i now love it! and y surname is hare so it is extra cool! lol so beautiful...

  • Wow. Wow. Wow. What an absolutely beautifully tune. I found this video cuz I'm a huge Kate Rusby ran -- so glad I ran across this -- it's now a favorite addition to my "Kate Collection." Good on you Seth!!!

  • whoo i love Kate Rusby!!

did you know they both used to be in a band together.

  • Good song and sound, can anyone tell me what make of instrument Seth's he's playing? looks like a 4 stringed guitar. It's got a great sound. Enjoyed his concert at Norwich last sunday.

  • It's called a tenor guitar, tuned CGDA, or GDAE... not sure what tuning he uses.

  • Thanks Varian128 for the reply and info about the tenor guitar.Played one of your vids, your a great musician too, thanks again and all the best, sillyfan.

  • GDAE, i kno that coz chords he uses work in irish GDAE bouzouki (like big mandolin)

  • Maybe he changes tuning depending on the song? Many sites say he uses GDGD tuning on the tenor. Either way, Seth Lakeman plays a mean tenor.

  • He'll use GDAE cos that's fiddle tuning

  • If you see him live he changes his tennor as he has two with different tunings. The one he uses for King and Country is definately GDGD

  • I've worked out how to play this tune and to get these chord voicings, the tuning is indeed GDGD

  • I favourited this and I love it so much I want to favourite it again. This is just the most gorgeous music.

  • Fantastic

  • I love this song. Seth is a real musical genius.

  • A new recruit to Seth's growing army of fans. A true talent! I think this is my favourite track. He is awesome!

  • raw acoustic version? the vocals are just taken off the studio version, and the guitar track was recorded seperately. he's just miming.

    not a bad song though...:-)

  • so! how many artists DONT mime when recording a video you idiot . also thanks for the all the info on this track not that i asked!!!! and thanks for not helping me with the original question that i did ask!!!

  • love song!!!

  • just perfect

  • I've always had a weakness for the bare soul of just a man and his guitar.

So glad to have stumbled accidentally on this tune - and therein discovering a fantastic new artist.

Now I wonder if I can make it to Tonder this year, considered there's also Brian McNeill there - might be worth getting past my unease with large crowds...

  • does an1 no where i can download this version its more raw than the original

  • Brilliant, just brilliant!

I was in the front row at Warwick Folk Festival, it was the highlight of the weekend!

  • This is such a beautiful song, I love it.

  • Excellent tune, I like this raw acoustic version

  • Fit as.

  • good grief .. this is reali reali good im only 16, so i thort i wouldnt lyk it but wow u hav an amazing voice ... LOL i believe i will lisen 2 u a lot more now

  • I like this song only b'cuz it reminds me with my little pretty rabbit, MINHA COELINHA adore-te

  • My current favourite acoustic song! What is the tenor guitar tuned to?

  • If i was to take a guess, i would say GDGD with a capo on 3

  • Hi Jez42, thanks for your reply. Since I posted that comment I have looked into it a bit more and I think it is in standard tenor tuning which is CGDA (same as banjo or mandolin apparently). I have looked at chord shapes for that tuning and he appears to be using them. I really want to get one but they're mostly in the US, so if anyone knows of a tenor guitar for sale please reply.

Yours on the tenor air guitar, Liam
