that would be considered a left-handed river here in Newfoundland. Add a riffling hitch, fish left-handed using the curl and your success will go through the roof with all those partially interested fish. Great video!!
yes it's because if you set the hook at the same second, i mean if you pull the line as soon as you feel something, then most of the time the hook will not set on, they always wait for a few second's and then pull the line, they led the salmon eat the fly for a bit.
One thing that I noticed was that when the salmon hit the fly, the angler barley set the hook. It was like the line gradually got taught, instead of sinking the fly into the fish. I have seen this with Atlantic Salmon Anglers... It's like they let the fish set the hook themselves... Any reason for that?
@crowdcor225 you want the salmon to turn to go back down with the fly as it sets in the corner of the mouth. that's the best place. If you set hard soon as you see the fish take the fly it'll most likely pull from the soft tissue of the mouth and also startle the fish into somersaults and back-flips most likely throwing the hook
@crowdcor225 salmon usually spit the hook if you don't set..a good rule of thumb is say "there he is" then set after the fish has turned back down...water depth and speed are factors in the fish hooking itself or not and how hard to set, for example, in shallow rivers and streams the fish will not drop back down far enough or fast enough to tighten the line setting the hook itself ..watch the guy with all the fish on every morning is my advice.
awesome....never gets old.
