George: "You know what will cheer you up sir? A charlie chaplin film."
Blackadder: "No thank you George. I find his films about as funny as getting an arrow through my neck, and then discovering there's a gas bill tied to it."
This film is mentioned in the book by Paul Merton, called Silent Comedy. It reveals the tense relationship, between Charlie Chaplin & the director, Henry Lehrman. Look for the scene where Lehrman grabs Chaplin by the throat & pushes him to the ground. Chaplin doesn't have time to make it a comedy fall & goes straight down. Also look for the scene where Lehrman kicks Chaplin & Chaplin turns round to confront him.
Hilarious, absolutely hilarious how unassuming he acts as he desperately tries to be on camera. Walking into the shot and then posing, or making some casual gesture as the car's go whizzing by. You can even tell the extras are trying to hold in their laughter in the background. Brilliant for its time
Though this one is the first RELEASED picture with "The Tramp" as a character, the first picture where he donned the outfit was "Mabel's Strange Predicament" and released right after this one. So, "Races" is the first time the tramp was introduced to the world, but "Mabel's Strange Predicament" is the one where he first invented the famous character.
hahaha i read that this was infront of a an actual crowd no one knew this was all a joke and such xD hahahahaa

Really, is this much different than how people act at sports events to day to try to get on television?

Charlie acted like he didn't know how to act in front of a camera, LOL!
But that's his very first time as a young actor, though.:)
