  • Its Louis Walsh!!!!

  • It's kinda hard to tune my guitar if yours is out of tune...

  • thanks man(;

  • Hey i have a 12 string and im having trouble with the g i can get string 7 to be a g but number 6 i can only get to a c and i dont wznt to break it

  • i love irish accents

  • Top of the mornin to ya! I enjoyed your video very much.

  • can anybody tell me what are the gauge of this string because they dont sell 12 string paks in my country and i want to buy a 12 string

  • @narutosaenz Maybe try somewhere else in the country or else try ebay I know you can get strings on the website. The one on my video are a light gauge 12 to 54. Although a lighter gauge is reccomended for that.

  • very helpful compared to other vids on youtube of this topic, thanks.

Also, I noticed your G seemed to be on the same octave is that correct? I see in some references that it is gG instead of GG but they warn that tuning it to a g might break the string.

  • Just how drunk were you when you made this? Very funny!

  • @donepearce Yeah I may do but I wasn't and I don't drink.

  • so your saying if i change the button from the 6th string {the thickest string } to the first string E button and tune the tweve string like that.

  • @billycat1965 Yep it should work with the six string tuner to the the twelve string. I would advise you to go to a music shop or someone who would know if you're stuck with it.

  • sorry if my question didnt make sense.i do have a tuner,i tune the second string E [6 string double] to standard with the tuner but how do i tune the other E string on the tuner

  • @billycat1965 change the button on the tuner to the other e and the tuner should read the note that's being played. I think I know you're using a standard six string guitar tuner. Yeah that should work with the twelve string. I don't use a tuner for my twelve string really but try that out or tune your six string double neck guitar first and then tune it to the twelve string one to it and that shall work. I think that guitar the one you have is the one Jimmy Page used to use.

  • i just finished my doubleneck guitar kit,now when i tune my twelve string ,and they say to tune the 6th string E aan octave down, does that mean to tune it at the twelve fret and the 2nd E to standard tuning,im a little mixed up when it comes to that.thanks

  • I don't understand but my advice would be is to either get a tuner or use your ear and tune the low e string first and then tuned it to the the octave e to it and then tune it to the a strings d strings etc the same as tuning a basic six string guitar. Tuning at the twelve fret would have something to do with intonation but that's a different story. There are ways of tuning the guitar but tuning from e then to adgbe is the best way. Let me know if you're stuck thanks.

  • I have a question, the high e in the 6th pair of strings is in the same octave as the 2 e's in the 1th pair? Or is the 1th pair of e's higher than the 6th one?

  • Yeah the thinnest high e strings are higher than the the thickest low string e and the thickest high e string beside it. Don't quite understand the question but as far as I know the two high thinnest e strings are the same and are not an octave higher than each other. The low e and the high e from the bottom of the twelve string are different octaves one higher one lower than that string. Hope that helps.

  • @KarloR27 it helps, thanks a lot.

  • @Solracx The higher E in the 6th pair is one octave lower than those in the 1st pair. Put another way the high E in the 6th pair is the same note (same octave) as the E found at the second fret on the lower string in the 4th pair and the high E at the same position is the same as those in the first pair. Hope that isn't too confusing.

  • How would you tune a 12 string to an open tuning?

  • The same way as a normal six string open tuning just with high octaves beside that detuned note. I'd do the low bass notes first then tune the high string to that tuning depends what tuning you're using.

  • Ok, thanks alot man.

  • No problem I use open tunings myself and have used them on the twelve string before.

  • Thats really helpful man :D

But whats the diferences in the guages for the drones (high Strings, apart from the high B and E)??

  • The other strings would be closely related to the high b and e strings in gauge but just tuned to the same octave as the lower strings. You can get other gauges for the twelve string but the best ones to use would be light and extra light. Medium would be too hard to bend strings.

  • when i tune both the high e strings to sound the same they sound different when i play it in the 12th fret or a higher fret and when i tune one string higher than the other string they sound the same on the 12th fret. why does that happen and how can i fix so that both strings sound the same wether theyre played on higher or lower frets?(only happens with high e string)

  • I think I know the intonation on your 12 string might be bad and causing problems to not be in tune at the twelve fret. Common things about that would be you need to adjust your neck check it first and then check to see if the nut height is the right height or maybe the guitar is not setup right. Which means that the guitar is setup to give the right playability you want. Please contact a repair person if yeah know one or go to your local music shop. Hope that gets sorted.

  • I love the sound of a 12 string also but I find em much harder to play especialy in the winter time when my arthritis acts up.

  • Yeah it is at times because of the strings beside them and the gauge of strings is pretty strong to bend which makes it harder to push them. I suppose if you get lighter strings for it it shouldn't effect your arthritis so much. All the best.

  • good tutorial mate i hate having to tune the octive G in case it snaps haha its such a high octive

  • Yeah I know I'm the same to. It should have a more stronger gauge than what it is because it's so light. Anyway good luck with tuning the twelve string

  • Sometimes 12 strings tuned to standard E can be hard on your fingers.... so dropping all strings 2 frets make it a little easier..... its also less tension on the guitar neck... but they are built to take it,,usually.

  • Yeah I know that already. I tuned my one lower to. Also if you use lighter strings like extra light it's not as hard when it's tuned down or probably in the normal standard tuning. All the best.

  • Hi Karlo I figured Id just mention it anyway.... I have to down tune my old 12 string (eko ranger 12) as I have wrist problems and just cant play it unless I do that.

Love the 12 string sound.... Yes I use light guage strings too.... it all helps

    regds

    Leo

  • Yeah. Some guitar players not that many I'm not sure. Were disabled but still played the guitar. As far as I'm aware Les Paul and of course Django Reinhardt who lost his fingers in a caravan fire both had problems but could still play the guitar.

  • Karlo, I've read it's better to tune a 12-string down 1 full step, and use a capo on the 2nd to play the EADGBE ... the reason being 12 strings pull harder on the neck when stored, and can create warping. So dropping down a full step helps to offset that tension.

  • Correct yeah well my twelve string guitar is ok maybe it depends on the type of wood that the guitar has that causes the neck to warp badly I don't know that's just what I reckon. If guitar repairers suggest something that's to do with preventing that happen I'd take there advice. If you've any questions feel free to ask thanks.

  • thanks for that :)

  • No problem if you've any more questions feel free to ask. All the best.

  • thanks, wish you the same :)
