I don't know. They are both very good games and I have known them since i was 4. I'm going with Mortal Kombat with this one. Tekken has realistic fighting, but Mortal Kombat's fighting styles are what inspired me to take up after them, and I'm still a great fighter ever since. Mortal Kombat has more violence, while Tekken doesn't. Tekken is good, don't get me wrong, but personally I'm just more used to Mortal Kombat because I play that more often. Tekken feels cultural, while MK is violent.

@hotwhire stiff at times yh i'll give you that but slow, compared to mk 1-4yh but it is pretty fast once you get going. that being said i was surprised with the wii version of armageddon that game is actually pretty fast and fluid :O. also remember playing deadly alliance on the gc and that was pretty quick tempo game but hey opinions. i would say that getting rid of the run button did slow down the tempo though that why thought it should have came back in mk 9 thats if its there already
Tekken is a game for pro gamers and people that appreciate authentic martial arts. MK is for casual / button mashers, for people that get off on violence alone, and for people that don't know shit about real martial arts.

@TopFightingGame All MK 3D games gave to the fans, was just exaggerated blood drops the size of baseballs and unrealistic fatalities showing off people breaking apart as easy as a barbie doll. That was it's main focus back then, it didn't help that it's gameplay in 3D was horrible with stiff and clunky movements and SLOW as all hell fighting animations. I think MK9 will finally make the MK Ps2 era of crap history.

If you actually use your head and just think, games like tekken and street fighter are still alive and well and creating Outstanding, but my fave game franchise mk hasn't died. im a giant fan of mk but some of the gameplay has turned into shit. why, out of anything in the world did it have to be mk? im really sad but mk is still the best for me! oh and mk would beat tekken anyday. scorpion and sub zero will pretty much own Tekken, nuff said XD

the Mishima family can take out everyone from MK. If Sub-Zero ever tries to throw an ice blast Jin or Kazuya, they would just cut right through it with their lazer, along with sub-zero...
Heihachi can catch a flying bullet with his teeth... so I'm pretty sure he can catch Scorpion's spear with his teeth also...

I choose Tekken. I haven't played very many Mortal Kombat games, but the three that I did play had horrible gameplay. The storyline was confusing as well.

@troymarten it's not opinion, it's fact. MK characters were motion captured by a "noob" at martial arts and their fighting styles are a joke and DON'T relate to the true styles. That's not opinion. Compare Hwoarang's or Baek's Tae Kwon Do with Sonya's Tae Kwon Do, or Bruce's Muay Thai with Jax's Muay Thai. No comparison. Tekken wins.

@TopFightingGame All MK 3D games gave to the fans, was just exaggerated blood drops the size of baseballs and unrealistic fatalities showing off people breaking apart as easy as a barbie doll. That was it's main focus back then, it didn't help that it's gameplay in 3D was horrible with stiff and clunky movements and SLOW as all hell fighting animations. I think MK9 will finally make the MK Ps2 era of crap history.

Hell, I don't even listen to the real critics knowing that some of my favorite games were panned by them. What I told you is what I saw (you did the same it seems). And I happen to really like the 3D MK games (DA, Deception, Armageddon) along with other fighting games. Heck, I even like fighting games by Eighting (TvsC was awesome) and as far as I know, the "fighting community" hates them too.

@nintendoboy17 Well fans are the reason that certain fighting games are still alive and doing well. Fans have more input than you think in the fighting game community. And TVC was not made my Eighting, it was made by Capcom... and TVC was well-received in the fighting game community. A MK game hasn't appeared at any sort of tournament in over a decade, that's because the last 5 games were slow (gameplay) and sloppily made in general.

MK is really only popular America because it's a household name. They're trying to make a comeback with MK9, but SF and Tekken are 15-20+ years ahead of them in success and fan base. The tide isn't going to turn so easily... that's all I'm saying.

Yup. Played every Mortal Kombat and I'm also very knowledgeable on martial arts styles. Martial arts in MK are actually a joke, nowhere near authentic... lol. Tekken's martial arts ARE authentic, they use REAL moves and the moves also have far superior collision detection in Tekken.
The motion capture in MK sucks, that's a proven fact.
