@Mirokukeiiswatching Canadians refer to American English as American because it vastly differs in pronunciation and other factors such as slang from Canadian English or British English. If you were to go through and Canadian English dictionary and an American English Dictionary, there would be some words that are either ommitted or added in both dictionarys. There are not a huge amount of differences between the two english dialects but they are there. Hope this helps :)

Okay so I'm going to join into the rant about wanting to move to Canada XD

Yeah, I'm an American, but my father and his mother were both born and raised French Canadians. I take great pride in that. ^^ I've only been to Canada once to visit family, but I loved every second of it and have the purest intentions to move there and become a full-fledged Canadian citizen. Canada is, and always will be, my one true love as far as countries go :D

I was watching this video, and I swelled with patriotism. I longed to open my window in the middle of the night and scream "MY NAME IS ANGIE, AND I AM CANADIAN!" and to proclaim the awesomeness that is milk in bags, maple syrup snow pops, traffic being held up by geese, and being able to sing O Canada in two languages with no problem~

@Downsight Eh. It's sort of a combination, you know? Like, when speaking, we tend to sound very American. But, when it comes to spelling and grammar, we spell it the British way. Lol, with the 'u' in colour and whatnot.

Too bad most of us don't throw in a bit of French, eh? I try sometimes, but it's hard to say anything outside of 'oui' and 'non' in an English conversation.

We tend to spell some of our words the British way as well, thanks to Ontario's influence I guess. It's a bit of a bastardized mix between the American and British versions here, and depends on what schools you attended. (I spell colour & favourite like so, but aluminum, not aluminium.)

Aside from the usual skirmishes, Americans and Canadians are pretty buddy-buddy with each other. Even if we didn't want to, we'd have to anyway; our trade is practically dependent on each other. (Well, maybe only Canada, who's more introverted). Just don't call a Canadian an American. :)
