  • I am a Dairy farmer, not organic but farm like we are, considering the organic route, anyway I met this guy at a conference in Virginia a few months ago and he is a really super guy, great dairyman and is one of the nicest guys Ive ever met. very smart and cow friendly

  • @thornguy2 couldn't agree with you more. =)

  • @thornguy2

    your cows are cute.

  • You bring your cows in when it rains????? OMG!!! That's funny!!! Just can't stop laughing at that one

  • Your awsome man!

  • How wonderful to see this video after having just seeing the movie "Food, Inc." - that was scary. People like this is our only hope for survival. God bless them.

  • very nice to see this. thanks for what you do

  • I am so in love with these cows!

  • I love this breed. beautiful.

  • if only the world had more people like that....

    awesome

  • This is a really good and interesting story. Honest and informativ - and exiting as well. Thx.

  • I'd like to know what happens to these cows after their milk-producing years are over? Are they killed / sold for meat?

  • Almost certainly. And what are to become of the male calves? You cannot profit from the "useless" in a business that uses sentient beings as commodities. And someone didn't like your inquiry for the truth, as they gave you a poor comment rating. Sometimes the truth hurts, but you don't discount it - you accept it as a truth, and make a change for the better. That change is called veganism. Why harm others when you don't need to?

  • Agreed. I'm glad to see this world isn't completely hopeless and full of ignorance. Thank you for your reply.

  • Can't you understand that in oder to feed the country we need meat? I am not a puppy beater, but do enjoy a good hamburger. my grandfather was a dairy farmer for 60 plus years and his cows were the happiest and most gentle cows i have ever seen. organic beef farming is where im going in life and i will not stop until my cows are the happiest they could ever be. If everyone was a vegan what would happen to the cow species? they'd go extinct!!!

  • @richiec5 Your reply is one of the most ignorant I've ever read or heard. How ridiculous to think cows would go extinct. Do you eat humans too? No, you don't? Then how come we're not extinct? Because apparently the only way for animals to survive is for us to eat them.

  • @richiec5

Also, the other ignorant comment of yours is: in order to feed the country we need meat. Raising livestock requires LOTS more land than growing crops for direct human consumption. That's because animals eat a lot more food than they provide as meat. It takes 16 lbs. of grain to make 1 lb. of beef. That's 94% more land that could go toward crops for direct human consumption. All told, livestock eat 70% of ALL the grain we produce, which, again, is all food that can go directly to ppl.

  • @sparmonic Go smoke a tree!

  • @mandtconstruct

    Sorry, I don't smoke. ;)

  • super sweet video, and well-made for a lay person. Thanks. B

  • i would like to know what organic farmers when their feilds grow up in weeds. Im not putting them down but would just like to know how they get any crops by not using something to kill weeds

  • read up on it, there are plenty of methods. Many that work a lot better than spraying fields with toxic chemicals.

  • where could i find this information? thanks

  • cultivation disrupts the weed seed cycle. Keeping the soil covered with cover crops also helps block out weeds. There are literally thousands of books on the topic.

  • so do organic farmers use cover crops on corn and beans?

  • nice looking cows

  • I LOVE this!!! Jon Bansen a legacy! Beautiful Cows!!! Just lovely!

  • Love this video. Neat person and neat, happy cows.

  • absolutely wonderful!! those are some happy, loved cows... thank you for posting this!1 made my day.... =)

  • Great looking herd of Jerseys.I grew up on a small dairy farm, and would give anything to have one of my own today. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

  • Do you need any help out here ? ___ I'd love to live in that farm...it's beuful.

  • i think it's a great life...being a farmer.

personally i'm sick of living in a concrete

    jungle.

  • wow, i learned alot!

  • Intresting ~!!

  • God bless the decent hard working human beings who treat the earth and animals with love and respect as we should. Buy organic people, how you buy decides what happens.

  • Awesome. Very informative and the cows are great.

  • this guy is in one's right mind

  • wheres the slaughtering???!!! :( :oX

  • Hey buddy, this is a dairy farm, DUHHH! thats why rosie is his favourite MILKER.

  • I dated a heffer in college, any chance she ended up on your farm? If so, please tell her I want my Pink Floyd shirt back.

  • o_O Lol, that's a pretty interesting history.

And.. was that " Believe Me " - Fort Minor playing for a few seconds? XD

  • 5 stars! Who did the music, I like that at the end.:)

  • that guy is awsome.

  • I loved this video. I am reading a book called The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Hurray for grass farmers!

  • when you calve, do you keep the heffers and the bulls go to veil or what do you do. i find this very intresting, im in FFA so i wont go tree huger on you.

  • As I understand it, they keep the heffers and the bulls go to a local farm.

  • and do they go to the 'the petting zoo in the sky' or are they reproduce?

  • Most bull calves will be castrated and kept for a couple of years until they're big enough to go to the slaughterhouse. Jersey meat isn't in big demand as it tends not to conform to the supermarket standard, even though it tastes fine.
