  • I first heard that song on the documentary Time Was with Dick Cavett in 1979 when he described 1920's consumerism. On the Color Purple I thought that song was played by King Oliver when one of the characters was beginning to play that record.

  • Absolutely love this song!

  • Is the record player a bit fast? Most other versions of this recording are slower than this- but other recordings of this song are usually faster.

  • Great Amazing Music. Never heard before (

  • Wonderful! That's my decade.

  • This piece was used quite a few times in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the new Terry Gilliam film and the last Heath Ledger film.

  • This was #1 in Sept of 1922. I'm creating a series of music playlists for each of the past 100 years, thanks to those who are kind enough to do all the uploads !

    Pick any year, play all, and lose yourself in another age . . . . . . . . .

  • @TulseLuper It was also in "The Color Purlpe."

  • @TulseLuper

Besides Japanese Sandman, was there other tunes by Paul Whiteman used for the gypsy cart?

  • @minespatch Possibly. I need to check the DVD again; all the songs are credited at the very end.

  • @TulseLuper

I'm only asking even though I have the dvd, the imdb soundtrack page only has the songs written by Terry Gillium. Even the soundtrack itself doesn't have the Whiteman music... It's a shame. I rather like it.

  • It was also used in "Starlit Days at the Lido" 1935

  • I have lot of henry busse, he's really hard to find.

  • Does any one have video performances of Henry Busse, I'd love to see!! - he was married to my great grandmother

  • Great to hear Henry Busse's hot trumpet. I

hope you have more. I became a fan of Busse's

trumpet playing listening to my Dad's old

78's. Of course he did "Hot Lips" again on

record in later years on, I think, Coral

Records in the late 40's. The sound was much improved over the old 20's wax.
