Aaaah, Takes you straight back tio the 80's & the ultimate question RD or RG (whilst trying not to laugh at Honda's decision to go for the NS400) . . . . Great Vid
Fantastic bike, just love it.... but... the very first GSXR750F 1985 (blue-white slabside) looks better and is at the moment better value to get hold of... and this coming from me a two stroke lover owning the BEST 2 stroke EVER ....the 1972 Kawasaki 750 H2 ..
This is a road going RG 500, I used to race against these on my old CBR 600 F2 and there wasn't alot of difference on the track. My new gixxer 1000 is ten times better though. Still, these are classic great bikes and I'd love to have one in the garage.
Maybe on fast long curbs tracks your judgment can be somewhat applicable. But on tight corner tracks this bike is 10 times better than your new gixxer, you bet. Remember that exactly this frame won the world championship in 1983 with the 500cc engine, ok suspensions, brakes and all the rest were surely different.
This is the proof of an era where riders who were fast were talented in order to achieve it...What today's bike has this kind of character sound and generally STYLE??? The new 4 strokers look all the same to me..Let alone that they are much more civilized than these 2 stroke beasts.Difficult to handle but pretty..
I must disagree with you there, you can't compare the skill of the racers today to the ones of yesteryear I mean the old 500cc GP bikes were fast but not as fast as the modern 800s. The riders of today ride different to suit the newer bikes. I think the modern bikes have much more aggressive styling I like the classic sportsbike looks but I don't think they look as nice as modern bikes, but then again I'm young and that's what I grew up with. But what I wouldn't give to have a ride on that RG.
Nice, i've never got to ride anything like that but i bet it'd be sweet!
I'm starting to think those 4 stroke supremist retards can't do anything other than talk trash on the internet, they never have any videos lol and i've never met one in person..
Get your head out of the past and get a real bike!!!! like 06/07/08 gsxr and experience how a sport bike is supposed to ride in the new millennium guy like you are allways thinking about it. And put that RG in a museum where it belongs.
Those guys have no clue whatsoever about handling a bike like an RG 500 they would be on their ass in a minute. Is it as rideable as a daily driver as a CBR or GSXR 600 of course not. Nor the more modern chassis development.
But on the right race track I like its chances against a bike 20 years younger and with 100cc more displacement, totally.
Nice, Very businesslike. To see any old stroker on the street is a treat these days. They are unfortunately very much a thing of the past but I live in hope that updated 2 strokes will appear again to rule the roads.
I would love to have one of those, but I do have 2 cool Suzukis,a 1982 Katana 1000, and a 1985 GS 1150 ES. That is a beautiful Gamma.

I rode an '85 RG500 that belonged to a buddy, while I owned an 85 GSX-R750.
Amazing how similar they both looked... but they sure were different machines!
The GSX-R dominated all other 4-strokes, and ruled the track... unless there was a Gamma around.
The RG500 seemed to weigh nothing and was totally insane on the pipe.
It took 5500 rpm and a big clutch slide to launch it, but it reeled in the 4-strokes like an antiaircraft missile.
And being so light, you could gain a lot on the brakes!
