  • where are movements IV, V, and VI?

  • muzyka z pięknego filmu "Żywot Mateusza"

  • I don't care how much vibrato is in the performance, this is great. I'm playing violin 1 solo for my orchestra this year and you guys are perfect to play along with, so thank you very much, and great video.

  • You ladies are inspiring.

I'm playing this for my chamber orchestra.... (:

I can only hope to sound half as lovely as you all do~

  • génial

  • beautiful,makes me cry,lol

  • i like

  • Excelente obra de A. Corelli

  • Alice, splendid, so full of joy! keep posting video's!

  • Thumbs up if ETW brought you here :D

  • love the IV (adagio/allegro/adagio) movement!!!

  • Excellent job! it seems to me that it would be quite lacking with no vibrato. In fact, I have never heard it played sans vibrato..this video is favorited!

  • Empire: Total War?

  • @RuckaInc + master & commander?

  • I just ran accross this video. I'm really imprssed. The winjing over vibrato/no vibrato is silly: are we not supposed to listen to Gould because he recorded Bach on a 20th century grand piano?

Congratulations and thanks; I thought this was terrific.

  • @Dario! Thanks for posting and keeping the post hear! I will save to my fav's. I hope that you are still practing your music! May the Force be with you (Old Zen saying borrowed by a movie director) James

  • Bravo !!!

  • Nice!!!

    Thanks for video and posting!

  • Nice!!!

    Thanks!

  • Well done ladies and as you are playing you can choose to use or not the vibrato!

    Congs!

  • So much vib >_<

  • this is REALLY good

probably the best recording of this song i've ever heard

  • You all are very talented. Brava.

You obviously have extensive training and dedication and it was beautiful!!!

  • Although this was taped a few yeas ago, I have to tell you that this is a beautiful piece of music. Your interpretation of Arcangelo Corelli's Opus 6 was performed beautifully.

  • Ladies, bravo welll done hope you all still play. Have or will any of you join any local

    Symphony orchestras ?

All the best - thanks for the video.

  • I dont give a sh*t about the "vibrato" issue, this is the most intense execution of Corelli I've heard.

Also, if you have played more Corelli, let me know.

  • @Dario4R Vibrato is use to improve the sound,no doubt. If baroque composer did'nt do, we can teach them if they can still listening !!!!!!!!

  • It sounds AMAZING! I am a big fan of this piece, and who cares if the vibrato doesnt sound like baroque, u are in charge of how you play it, and I personally think it sounds better with vibrato and ur articulations, so Dario4R can shut up and find something else to try and critique!

  • Why shouldn't it be allowed to use vibrato by playing baroque music. It is freedom of interpretation and expression.@alicelizard please don't listen to those claimed baroque music experts, who own the truth of sound. Your playing sounds wonderful!

  • @Dario4R This recording was made in 2007 when we were young students in high school, following the instructions of our chamber music coach. We are aware of the issues concerning use of vibrato in baroque music, but the recording was made long ago and is what it is. Perhaps we should delete this video-- except that it seems to bring pleasure to most of its viewers. I'm sorry you don't like it, but you have been revisiting it for over a year, so you may wish to stop listening to it. :)

  • @alicelizard Dear Alice... Yes, indeed this video brings pleasure to a lot of people. This may be my favourite classical video as performed by youngsters. Most definetely it brings a certain "je ne sais quoi" to the mix. :) I am suscribed to your channel and I miss this "ensamble" performances... You are all great. Thank you so much for sharing! Best regards from Chile!

  • @alicelizard

Excellent video, you are so talented girls, there should be more videos like this one in Youtube.

    Greetings from Mexico.

  • @alicelizard this piece NEEDED the vibrato to become perfect.

  • @alicelizard Unlike what most think, baroque isn't totally absent of vibrato. It was used as an ornament, like a mordent or trill. So, while vibrato was used sparingly, it WAS used. And I love hearing different interpretations of pieces. They don't HAVE to be played the way the composer intended in that time period. Different interpretations create variety and spice, yo.

  • @alicelizard One has to be an incredible person to show such a politeness with a guy who's obviously been pestering arounf for such a long time. Congratulations!

Btw, I really like your playing. Though not professional level, it´s a very good rendition for a group of young players. Keep up the good work!

  • was this piece played in any episode of star trek tng?

  • Comment removed

  • I have to play this as a sololist and let me tell you it's alot harder than it seems and I really wish that the cellist would play louder because I'm supposed to be listening to that specific part and I can't hear it well enough! and all yall haters out there shut up there are hardly a handful of pepople that could play that as good as they could! :(

  • @mushucello you might actually be able to find specific cello recordings on this piece especially the first adagio movement since its a really famous piece

  • @stephy449 thanks i needed the help :) we have one more rehearsal and i have a lot of problems that need fixing

  • Great Performance!!!

  • nice, dynamics and everything was good

  • Superb... baroque is a another world.....

  • OMG! DON'T CLAP! You ruin the movement!

  • don't worry about what these people say, play the song how you feel, this is 2010, times have changed, so has music, Interperet the piece any way you'd like. Music is like a picture, paint it anyway you wish. I too am a cellist, and I play this piece very similar to the way this woman plays it, and she's pretty and looks around my age =D

To me boroque is like watching a black and white movie. Yes, it's enjoyable by some, but in this day and age most people. like a little color =)

  • @BuddhaChef Well said.

  • thats amazing... so much feeling ppl who are in concert/ yosac need to practice more... we keep messing up i wonder how we will sound like in our concert in december :/

  • these violins are hard for my ears, but basso continuo is great

  • CHE DONNE MERAVIGLIOSE ! CHE SPLENDIDA INTERPRETAZIONE ! CHE STRAORDINARIO COMPOSITORE ! CHE MAGNIFICI STRUMENTI ! SEMPLICEMENTE MERAVIGLIOSO !

  • great performance, but you should have changed cello and viola for the basso continuo is the most important thing in baroque music

  • Nice playing, but I don't think they have any idea of historical performance practice! Way too much vibrato, to much sliding around. No baroque articulations. You can't play Corelli like Brahms and that's exactly what this sounds like.

  • The Allegro is horrible without the buelding up of the Contrabass...

  • I love this, well done! so beautiful and meaningful....brought a tear to my eye =')

  • Caeli, my friend and I are playing this at a camp. We are wondering about 5th measure where there are six beats... Isn't the time signature 3/4?

Oh, and by the way, we are huge fans! You probably don't remember me, but I came after you in lessons with Mr. Snyder a long time ago, and I've always looked up to you. Thanks.

    ~Julia & Co.

  • the grave sound give to the piece a slowing impression, not bad intrpretation

  • THIS IS THE WORST INTERPRETATION I HAVE EVER HEARD

  • @fstyns Than post a recording of your group playing it better.

  • Sorry, but you can't play Corelli like this anymore! Horrible....

  • Wonderful! Made my heart glow.

  • They're not playing it the right way.

  • MI FAVORITE PIECE, CONGRADS

  • Very well played, I think the interpretation was spot on!

  • i wish you played the last movment

  • Incredible! Goosebumps. (That's partly the performance and partly Corelli). They sound like a whole orchestra. They understand Corelli. The interpretation is identical to that of the Societa Corelli, which is the definitive version, I think, but the audio quality is better because the Societa recordings are older. It's a pity Corelli could not live to hear this.

  • i love at 8:00

  • me to

  • I enjoyed this piece very very much. I thank Patrick O'Brian for leading me to such wonderful music. Brilliant.

  • I love this piece...

  • girls!! play really well!! I seriously would like to play like you!! ^^

  • i'm playing this for my county orchestra, the second violin part (:

  • im playing this song for a concert/recital with my orchestra

  • I heard that slide at 2:38...tsk, tsk!

  • Slide? How about baroque music being played in a romantic style? :/

  • @musicmatt09 well that's what she was doing by doing a slide on purpose...

  • Right, but I wasn't just talking about the slide though.

  • cool, our schools playing this at a church somehwere :)

Baroque orchestra~^^ Sophmore Quartet soon!!! XD

I have a question, for this song, should I use vibrato or no?

  • its really something you'll have to try. personally i would say yes use it...im playing this as well, and i am.

  • ofcourse!

  • It's only called a song if it is sung. Therefore, this is a "Piece." If you are being stylistic, don't use vibrato. If you want to sound better, use vibrato.

  • Please! Corelli is a baroque composer!!!!!

    Horrible vibrato and without articulations!!!!

Yes, it´s more similar to Brahms!!!

  • @Dario4R it's called moving "it" to the next level

  • @Dario4R We're not in the baroque now though! :D

  • @Dario4R its their own interpretation of it and it still sounds amazing. although it lacks the baroque style its still great

  • @Dario4R This a very idiot comment. This sounds like real MUSIC.

    The "original" sound is intolerable.

    Open or clean youe ears!!!!!!!!!!!

  • corelli or brahms??

  • great job guys im in an orchestra and i play the violin and we are playing this too!!!

  • Le Muse stanno eseguendo un concerto!!!

    Ascoltare in religioso silenzio!!!

  • it's baroque, you shouldn't use so much of vibration... especcialy in 2:38 first violinist play like romantic... the sound should be plain.. I think you're quite good musicians, but I don't like that version.

  • i play violin....in the orchestra that i am in,we are playing this song. i am 2nd violin....this song is beautiful

  • Uhm, I'm not so sure what amounts to a bass line (all questions to its utter rockin-ness put aside) will fly that well as solo piece! But it IS awesome.

  • great stuff

  • muy bello!

  • Yaey.

    : -)

We're playing this in my high school camerata class... And this really helps because the counting is bizarre, thank you!

    : -)

  • Ah, a viola in a quartet!! Lovely lovely, I must say. Hope to reach your level one day. And gonna ref this for when I practice our piece that we're doing. =3

  • beautiful!!! I am using this interpretation as a model for my own playing of the first violin part XD Its really a pleasure to listen to!!!

  • cello part is AWESOME!!!

  • Yeah, the cello part in this is amazing. It can easily work as a solo piece. But there are so many notes in half position and extended position, by the time I'm done my left hand is like, seizing up.

  • hermoso, simplemente hermoso

  • Wonderful piece

  • ya, i love this piece.....it is so beautiful

  • This is an exquisite performance. Thank you! You've been all great, I loved the cello part.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Well done, ladies. I'm impressed! :)

  • edited in 1714, this opus 6 is composed by 12 concerts, although some of these might have been composed up to 12 years before this date, this no. 8 in particular is often interpreted, the last movement the pastorel is the one that refers to the nativity of Jesus and gives name to the work

  • that's what i want to know. where can you get this, and more FREE sheet music? would be much appreciated.

  • does anyone know where i can get a copy of this sheet music?

  • is Madeline Smith your sister?

  • yep!

  • I actually prefer the middle adagio to the pastorale, when played by a full set of strings... it really soars, and holds all of this wonderful human truth and emotion... ah, it's just something else

  • Mm, wonderful to hear this in a chamber environment, and played by all women too! Although it is a shame not to have the supporting ripieno, as that's a large part of the concerto grosso, the contrast. But hey, you could think of it as an arrangement, and there are plenty of those! Excellent stuff :)

  • I am a beginning violinist. I am curious as to how many hours you have practiced when you began. I am really looking forward to playing with others.

  • you need like 2 minutes per week

  • filologiche!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sjokolade147 umm theres a lot of music people listen to like this here (US) so your comment is really stupid in my opinon since you dont live here in the US .......Just saying

  • this is supposed to be a baroque piece of music. not an 'elgar' type performance. lose most of your vibrato so we can actually here what corelli is doing. im sure you're very good musicians but this is an awful performance. vibrato in baroque music should only be used if absolutely necessary. not on every bloody note longer than a quaver :(

  • Hey cut the negative. Anyway this is a different arrangement ie: quartet. Its beautiful and they did an excellent job. Why dont you record a better video and post it since you're such a music critic.

  • i accord with you who study the story of musique knows that.

    it's logical

    think about that

    :)

  • This is a beautiful rendition. This is one of the pieces from high school I best remember playing. There's something sublime about it. Very Christmasy!!

  • bring on the GUNS 'N ROSES :P htis isnt bad

  • much better performance! So much more musical! :)

  • I was kind of disappointed that they did not include the Pastorale Ad Libitum...

  • I know! that ones my favorite!

  • VERY GOOD JOB!!

me and three others are going to be playing this in youth orchestra, i'm first violin yay!!! (first vi-12 yrs, second vi-12 yrs, cello-17, viola-36ish)

yeah well i'll be posting soon but this will probably kick our butts big time haha

  • uh...no...dont here it anywhere in Beethoven's 3rd mvt of Pathetique. xD;; Or maybe I haven't played that in a long while either. Ah well, who knows. ;D

  • beethoven use the intro of this song about 8 notes, in virus, in the patetique sonata 3rd movement...., i'm not a musician, but it sounds too similar to me, what do you think?

  • we're playing this in orchestra, i LOVE the first allegro, it's my absolute favorite movement!

  • I recently played this with an orchestra, but this was far better. PROPS!!! XD

  • omg!!! you guys are so0o0o0 badass!!!

  • wow, did they played both the obligato and the ripieno part? because it sounds like it. XD

  • NO!! Clapping between movements!! It's a musical sin!! LOL

It was beautiful, magnificent, everything. Love it... ^_^

  • HAHAHAHA I TOTALLY!! agree with you that was what I wanted to say! :P

  • @unitednerdsbeproud I know. I f-in hate it when people do that during our concerts. One time people did that while we were recording for a CD after the announcer SPECIFICALLY told them not too. It sounded terrible on the CD.

  • I enjoyed that. Thanks :-)

  • This was performed very well, but also very...well, to the note.

Baroque is similar to fiddle and jazz styles in that it was/is very common to improvise some embellishments into the piece. Also, this is usually just in the lead violinist's command.

So, add some improv next time! =) Again, loved it!

  • I love this... I'm playing it with my orchestra right now!

  • Beautifully performed. I just wish the adagio allegro adagio was played somewhat slower. It sounds rather nicer that way.

Anyway, that aside, this is my favorite piece and you performed it really well. Thanks!

  • the cello part is gorgeous in this piece

  • Great job i go to ESA and thats pro!:)

  • p.s. did u play in cut time? cuz it sounds like it

  • VERY nicely played... just need a bass and you should try to stress the piano and crescendo's more... very nicely done with the cello solo imo ;)

  • I am watching this video while drawing, and so for a while did not look at the screen after I clicked on it. At about the five minute mark I thought to myself, "this is quite a good performance, who is this?" and looked up.

I'll be damned; it's a group of teenage girls. Well done!

  • i hate that i can barely hear the cello over my crappy speakers

the cello's got a very important part in this piece

  • haha I liked the applause between movements

  • wow...everything's just perfect!!!

  • I played number 2 in this song, I loved it, it was hard for us, because it was 10 steps ahead of what we were doing, now I play it great. It's beautiful :)

  • Beautiful.

  • a very modern interpretation that, unfortunately, understates the importance of the continuo with far too much vibrato. let the instruments make their sound naturally.

  • FRumos.

  • this is the coolest piece i played the 1st violin solo its awesome

  • that vibrato crisps my hairs... try to reduce it, PLEASE!

  • lololol, I've never heard the expression "crisps my hairs," or someone wanting much less on a Baroque piece. xD

  • I've played this before. The viola part is boring.

Kudos Madeline for lasting through it.

    xD

  • perfect

  • corelli's amazing, yeah. weird set up, how you guys were sitting, but its cool

  • Very well played, really together. I liked the interpretation as well, but I could've used a more baroque style performance, less modern
