  • i just watched this with with my mouth open in disbelief.Simply amazing piece of footage

  • He looks like a slightly stressed run to buy milk rather than breaking the sound barrier what a cool guy.

  • hoo thinks that car actualy luks scary

  • houston, we broke the wall.

  • what a waste of a video. Looking at a dash for 4:31

  • Andy Green, has got balls, I mean, his voice doesnt even crack when the car slides a little at around 550 mph, if that was me the entire car would have been brown and smelly, good luck to Andy and the team for the 1,000 mph plus run whenever that is (I heard 2014?)

  • @Camerameister What Andy meant was, that was the return run, and for the video log he just explained what was going on.

  • This was the SECOND last run, Run 65. Final run was Run 66 which was when those peak speeds were reached.

No actual horsepower equivalent for jets but 1hp = 550 ft lbs/sec = 375mph. Therefore:

    40,000lb st thrust x 763mph = 30,520,000 divided by 375 = 81,386.3333hp

    81,000hp.

Bloodhound will produce about 133,000 at design speed of 1,050mph.

  • @Camerameister - Just to confirm that this is indeed the Final Run 66 ! You'll even hear this from Andy Green himself as he goes through the pre-run checks at 0:25 ::) You can also compare Andy's commentary from this Final Run 66, and the previous Run 65 ( which is also featured on YouTube with the Cockpit View). Valentina

  • @kolavalentina But he says "looking for a return run within the hour". I assumed he meant this was not it.

My understanding was that the final run was the one when he said "Everything is going to be wonderful" which he doesn't say this time.

  • @Camerameister - Andy also says that "this is the 2nd Run on Thursday 15th October" , so together with the reference to Run 66 it seems to confirm that this was indeed the Final Run. I assume the plan was to do "back-to-back runs" but as you know, after this 2nd Run and the achievement of the LSR there was no need!

  • @kolavalentina Yeah, I heard that. I just wondered if it was in reference to any other runs that day, though I can't imagine why they would have done a test run in a vehicle which was starting to fatigue quite appreciably.

Your logic seems to back it up. I understand that there were only 66 runs, half of which were in Jordan.

  • @Camerameister 550 ft lbs/sec = 375mph

    Does not compute.

  • @csmcmillion It's an approximation from Rolls Royce book "The Jet Engine", p.219. YT doesn't give me enough space to transcribe the explanation. TBH, I don't really get it either but I accept that RR have their own reasons for doing it that way.

  • fair play that man has big bollox....

  • "Bit of fishtailing....sorted". @ 500MPH. Understatement of the century.

  • Those annoying beeping noises. Where's a bucket of water when u need it!

  • That Guinea Pig he took with him is really annoying!

  • @luckybenny123 LOL i knew that sound reminded me of something. It is indeed the guinea pigs i used to have.

  • @GotSkillz09 - You're right, and one of the key problems is to stop the car "lifting off" and ensuring that the wheels can withstand the massive rotational forces!

  • Just reading the specs gives me goosebumps, big props to Andy Green for driving this wingclipped beast.

  • @aleksbmw -Yes! He is an amazing guy with so much "cool"" I attended his lecture on Thrust and Bloodhound last year at Beaulieu, and also met him a couple of times during the course of the Thrust Project in the mid-90s.Now I'm praying for their success with Bloodhound SSC in South Africa next year!

  • At 700 mph the air is more like water so it requires an enormous amount or torque to overcome this and a very, very strong windshield.

  • fishtailing at 450mph!!!!! quality!!

  • @TheTcroxford a ford fiesta can do this

  • @TheMtaTeam WTF are you on!!!

  • @TheTcroxford im using jet fuel

  • Power of this thing is 110 000 HP, not 11 000.

  • @Vanquishas 500,000Hp

  • is this the record for the biggest balls? this guy set the record i take it haha

  • idk why people say vhs has better video quality than a video cd

  • It's people like this that should be knighted instead of footballers and soap stars!

  • epicc "that noise is really pissing me off now " lol

  • He's from England, why doesn't he want a tea????

  • @fifmasta it's a CUP of tea you cretin.

  • @fifmasta cause he wants coke

  • I guess the person who rated this down was Craig Breedlove :D

  • The sound effects from the herculoids... lol

  • jt would have been nice to have a camera actually pointed out the front window

  • It's not everyday you go for a drive and get cleared to go supersonic ...great vid.

  • 3:44 - "That noise is really pissing me off now" LMAO!!

    Fantastic vid.

  • Yup, solid aluminium wheels.

  • @BirtyB572

All four wheels made by HDA Forging Ltd in Redditch, West Midlands. Each a work of art in aluminium if you get a chance to see them up close on the car in Coventry museum of transport.

  • Lol

    it looks like an airplane!

  • Ciekawe ile pali na mieście.

  • thats his Rador Detector going off...the Highway patrol have him now...

  • is it true this had solid Aluminum Wheels ..does anybody out there know if this is true??

  • to do supersonic on the ground is crazy vs doing it in the air.

  • @Reders160 Nothing, the crew are speaking to him at 1.11

  • looks like the cockpit of an extra 300

  • the best of british! andy green and richard noble, absoute heroes. we have still, and always will have, the right fuckin stuff! love you yanks, but, you know!.........

  • He is or was an English Royal Air Force jet pilot !!

  • Is he even Driving?

  • @tudy000

Oh, yes he is!! The car was directionally unstable at high speeds and the steering system via the narrow set rear wheels was not the most effective. The car had no toe in for self centring, so every input required another input to centre the car. Also at a high sub sonic speed range, the car would swing off in one direction, requiring a major correction input of steering. Driver has the nickname in the RAF of "Dead Dog"

  • I had a ford that drove like that at 50! This man is a hero

  • ssc has 80000 hp actually

  • I saw from wiki,it'll have 110000 hp!

  • check the number of corrections Andy has to make to keep it in a straight line - that thing is hard work!

check out the "braingasm" he has when he`s slowed down

  • i thought he was going to hit a pebble and go into orbit, then when he starts to come down he'll set the record...and form a crater.

  • I remember some footage of this - a crew followed the tracks it had made. At one point it had lost contact with the ground - it had "taken-off" for 23-30 yards...........

  • If that happened to me I'd shit.

  • @snifnscratch

Actually the only time Thrust SSC left the ground was in testing in Jordan at approx 500mph when it hit a bump on the extremely poor desert surface which launched the car skyward for 20 to 30 metres. In Black Rock she stayed firmly planted on the ground as designed.

  • The funny thing about this clip is that he sounds so releaved to slow to less than 400 miles an hour, as if it's almost stopped.

  • Absolutely true! Remember this was the final supersonic run, and most of the risks are during acceleration and running at supersonic speed. So imagine the relaxation when you're thru the crux!

  • This things max speed is 742 mph :)

  • @skyliner288

771 Miles an hour mate.. The cars speedometer (actually it was an Air Speed Indicator) measures in Knots, I think you find..

  • @AlberRatman wow, ever better :P

  • @hoggmark

Andy the driver was quoted as saying that at 300mph on the deceleration he was "bored" and wanted to open the door and get out !

  • @593OLYMPUS haha I love how there's still some RPs left in the world

  • @hoggmark lol you are right.
