This occurs because of the way Google Earth renders the cloud layer 2 dimensionally on a 3 dimensional globe. It's basically taking a flat image and applying it to a rounded surface thus causing the image to be clipped at certain points.

hey, sorry to burst your bubble but that is the earth's magnetic pole. Hence the reason satellite imagery doesn't work to well. Look at the south pole and it looks like a swirling vortex. Does that mean it's going to be a blackhole?? Look to the simplest explanation and please obey Occam's razor.

The Department Of Defence gets first dibs on what goes out on all sat images and if there is anything there that they do not want us to see, they are blocked out 'for security reasons'. Whatever it is they do not want us to see is blocked off. It has nothing to do with putting together 'snapshots' from previous days, or angles of the satellite images... these shapes were not there previously and they take photos daily and they have the technology to cover the whole globe. i downloaded google earth two month ago and there has always been somethimg over the north and south poles. some blurred circle where you cant make out anything. the pentagon yes is new i have never seen it if you look closely you can see a type of wave coming from it.i have heard alot of theories but can find nothing concrete other than the fact that every country except three in the whole world have a treaty to never try to conquer it.

It gets worse. Zoom in on the center of it, and zoom out again. If you're centered on it, you should see flashes during the zooming out. If you manage to stop the movement during one of those flashes, you'll see it's actually some sort of ''light'' emitting from the center.. :\
