as a graphic designer I have been taught to avoid comic sans if at all possible. However I recently came across an awesome artical about the correct use of 'bad' fonts. I can't find the link anyore though :( But it gave the history of each font, which helps explain why it looks so bad in some places and completely normal in others.

I am definitely a Comic Sans fontophobe. However, I fully will attribute it to my art school education.

My instructor for Communication Design this year showed us a Powerpoint of fonts, and when they were good design he'd say "yes" and the same thing vice versa. To let the social conditioning truly set in.

Helvetica "yes", Comic Sans "no", some beautiful calligraphy "YES", Comic Sans "barf", Anything by Marian Bantjes "the world is holy", Comic Sans "we're all going to die"... etc. etc.

I say font intolerance is a good thing. I've seen people use the ugliest typefaces for things like resumes. If you are not hip to what is appropriate, pick Helvetica or another sans serif face. If you only have Microsoft word or works use ms sans serif. Way better than some triple bold face.I say be a font Nazi at all times or risk appearing dumb.

Comic Sans is actually one of the most noble fonts. It is the easiest font for Dyslexics and people with certain learning difficulties to read. I can't say any other font has a claim to anything that noble.

I thought comic sans was the font you're supposed to use in speech bubbles in comic strips. I've found myself using a different but similar font for my comics to avoid cs related hate rage damaging any chance my comics had at being liked. Personally I think comic sans is ok.
