... how it works with self-righteousness. The person who recognizes her or his own sin is closer to God than the "virtuous" but self-righteous hypocrites who justify themselves: the publican who wouldn't lift his eyes up toward heaven but beat on his breast, pleading for nothing but mercy from God.
Doc, being a man of intellect and science, says "Dallas, you and I are victims of 'social prejudice'." But on a deeper, spiritual level, they are being treated to the self-righteousness of their condemners, which is even more sinful than the sins of those two. Jesus told the Pharisees that the harlots would enter the kingdom of Heaven before they did, and that...
Watch and see if, when you find yourself being self-righteous, which we all are susceptible to, and see if it doesn't bring out cruelty to other people.
You are vegan, and you probably take pride in that. But do you realize that sometimes people who take pride in not killing animals are very cruel to people? Look at Savitri Devi. So, even people who think they are kind can betray sin in their hearts by showing a cruel heart or something, yet be self-righteous, like the ladies who chase Dallas and Doc out of town.
Jesus's death on the cross was also an act of justice, one that He entered into willingly. Nothing could keep Him from his appointment with the cross.
No allegory is completely consistent with its object or it would be identical to it. The movie is written and made for people with the assumptions of its times, then it gently challenges them. Jesus would, however, love us in spite of our sin, and think we would be a fitting bride for himself in spite of our hopeless state.
I wanted to show that the beauty of this scene, one of the most Christian in the movies, is the beauty of Jesus' love for us, the ruined, who He redeemed to be His bride. Jesus is as good as the Kid, and, of course, much more.
Nope; not the twilight zone. It was once not so unusual to have an allegory of Christ in a literary or dramatic work. There is a lot of Christianity in Ford's work: The Informer, Three Godfathers, etc.
When the Ringo Kid loves and wants Dallas in spite of her sin, that is Jesus' love for sinners. Our salvation is as beautiful as that scene, only more profound.
damn it i pirated this movie when it was on here!

Jesus would not shoot human beings with firearms. He was non-violent.

Stagecoach was an allegory of Jesus Christ, even if YouTube hates the fact.
