Hey srb2004 - is there any chance that you could upload full episodes on here? It's just I missed Eps 3 and 5 of this series and would really like to see them.
I can't upload full episodes I'm afraid. That would really be taking the piss out of copyright laws lol. But I'm starting to put short videos of each episode up and you can see the Episode 7 one in the Video Responses above. I'm planning to do something similar with all of the other episodes.
I know its only a drama not asking for it to be 100% accurate, but that was pathetic. pads even have a pic on them showing where they should be placed! 33 secs in and you see them with a bag and mask and yet they still do mouth to mouth? And the patients mouth is closed, so thats Airway messed up then!! No OPA or anything.
Compressions on a bed are next to useless. A child in VF also very rare.
And the ambulance crew recognised life extinct on scene for a child who had been in VF?!
Doubt it! Most people watch a drama for entertainment, not to poke holes in it because of the realism. ITV probably scrapped it because it costed them too much money! I think it cost them more than any other program that year I think!
Actually, thinking about it, there probably were saddos writing in to ITV complaining about how the defibrillator patches were wrong upside down or something!
I wouldn't be surprised. People say how good it was, but if it was so good it wouldn't have been axed after a year when Londons Burning Lasted 16 years.
I know what you mean. I just think that nowadays we're never going to get a decent drama again. The budget for television programs has gone down considerably, and now everyone is resorting to Reality crap, and the odd Princess Diana investigation program! Personally, I loved Steel River Blues, despite it's very obvious realism issues. And in a way you're right about London's Burning - from a realism point of view it couldn't be faulted until series 11+ !
I agree completely. The show was a real expensive production, just like "Airwolf" and "The A-Team" were back in the Eighties. ITV should of admitted that they were in the wrong when they cancelled SRB, because they fucked up with the scheduling and TV guide time-slot printing.
3. Everyone seems to be disputing this, so if you're interested, this is what happens in Britain:
Many Fire Service personnel are trained in First Aid and Emergency Life Support, and often respond to urgent 999 calls when an ambulance may take a while. They can provide life saving help until an ambulance arrives. Firefighters trained in this are known as First Responders, or Community First Responders. They can sometimes make the difference between life and death.
The kid isn't in "De-Fib"... her heart has gone into fibrillation, and the de-fibrillator is what's used to restore correct heart rhythm. The compressions should be 1/3rd depth of the body. And then they placed the pads in completely the wrong place - one goes on the upper right chest, the other on the lower left side of the patient's body. If this was real then they would be facing manslaughter charges. Evidently the producer's spent a long time researching this scenario.
How can you seriously believe that firefighters shouldn't perform resuscitation? Whether in the US or UK, they beat in the paramedics to a lot of calls. Should they just let the person die? Dublin Fire has the right idea, Firefighter/Paramedics have been extremely successful here in the US for over 30 years.
at least the dublin fire brigade are full time paramedics aswell . i dont no about in eng. bu in dub. the d.f.b run the ambulance aswell and their fully trained!
steel river blues, this was one show they should never have cancelled.

I'm afraid I can't - YouTube only allows 10 minute videos, and I've tried on other sites which won't allow it. But PM me and I'll see what I can do.

In the scene, the ambulance would take about 13 minutes, whereas the fire service would only take seven.
srb2004 4 years ago
The target for a call as above would have been 8 mins, and is hit 75% of the time A kid in cardiac arrest would have all the stops pulled out.

1. I think the actor is saying V-fib. When someone is in V-fib, a defribrillator could be used.
2. I'd like to make this clear to everyone, this is not a documentary, it's a drama, so not everything is 100% realistic.
srb2004 4 years ago
he said v-fib... which is the correct term.
