Trugunflame you're right. The job of the media is to report. BUT as Dana says, "report with facts". The media seems to be bashing the UFC without using accurate facts. So in that way, the media isn't really doing their job.
This whole thing is fascinating to me. One thing that Dana is right about is all the negativity. I remember watching the Fedor-Rogers fight and just about losing my mind because I was so excited. I went online afterward to see what people were saying about it and the majority of people were talking badly about Fedor's skills and their deterioration rather than enjoying the incredible thing they had just seen. @oli1233 I'm not sure if you realize this but if you look through the vast amount of videos on this youtube channel, a huge number of his rants have ESPN in huge letters at the bottom, it's a espn radio affiliate so he's already getting covered and has been for quite awhile, more than any other mma figure. unfortunately for dana, hes basically served his purpose in the mma world. he has built the ufc into what will become a stepping stone for other companies. he is the next vinne mac with the exception that vinnie mac could afford to buy out all of his competition, but with EA, strikeforce & dream, CBS/showtime all teaming up against him - its only a matter of time before he tightens his grip so much that the industry slips from his "control" and the UFC will be defunct 10 years from now

This whole thing is fascinating to me. One thing that Dana is right about is all the negativity. I remember watching the Fedor-Rogers fight and just about losing my mind because I was so excited. I went online afterward to see what people were saying about it and the majority of people were talking badly about Fedor's skills and their deterioration rather than enjoying the incredible thing they had just seen. Same w/ UFC 108. I couldn't possible care less about the 'curse.'

Dana has done a ton for MMA but everytime he opens his mouth it makes me less inclined to want to give him my money for a UFC PPV ? He needs to zip it and hire someone that knows how to deal with the media if he truly wants to grow the sport to the levels he's stated. Saying that MMA won't be as big as soccer in 10 years doesn't mean you hate MMA it means you are saying something not completely ridiculous. Dana himself might be the thing that stands in the way of MMA becoming as big as football. Could you imagine if Roger Goodell spoke like him? A guy like Dana White cannot sell MMA as a family sport speaking with vulgar language like he does. Many people who associate MMA with him will also associate it with knuckle-headed thuggery. Not to say Dana White is a thug, but he sure comes off like one. I still love MMA though.

The one thing Dana does 100% correctly is taking a side. Sure he's gonna get people that don't like him, can't stand him, think he's a this/that.
Like him or not tho, there are enough people that resonate with his passion for the ufc, and that's what he cares about, and that's what really works in marketing.
Personally for me, yep, there are some things I don't like about the guy, and some things I do, but I believe he is executing the marketing game as close to perfect as possible with it.

I think Dana's mistaken the role of journalists for that of a PR company he hires. And the key to Rossen's article re: olympics was how it relates to China specifically, since China is in this weird stage where they're a communist nation and yet a super power of capitalism at the same time, and winning Olympic medals (especially since Beijing the other year) is a key source of nationalistic propaganda which the ruling system of government thrives on.
