You need a refresher course on the Mexican-American War. Once US General Winfield Scott conquered Puebla, Mexico's 2nd largest city, then Mexico City, the beginning of the end was apparent for Mexico. Being defeated in many battles, being outnumbered militarily and with many Mexicans deserting the army, Mexico could no longer defend itself against the Superior US forces. So the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed which basically gave the US 55% of Mexico's land. Mexico lost. That's it.

Mexico got paid a mesely $18 million dollars for half the land it once had. That is like a drop in the bucket. The US gained a reputation for being a military power and Mexico lost half of it's natural resources. A few pieces of land????? 50% is not a few mesely pieces of land.

I never said Mexicans weren't willing to fight. But majority of the Mexicans in the Mexican army DESERTED and quit because they knew they had no chance against the Superior US forces, which was apparent with the mounting losses in California and along the northern Mexican border. Mexico was lucky that the US didn't force it's way to occupying all of Mexico. But looking at how things are today, Mexicans might have been better off if Mexico was a state of the union.

No your wrong, Over 9,000 US soldiers Deserted the US. Thats almost 25% of Mexican forces. 13,271 US soldiers died, 4,152 Wounded. Now for Mexico 5,130 Soliders killed, and 856 civilians killed. Thats why the US begged for a treaty because they couldn't handle Mexico like i said. And no not as many Mexicans deserted has Americans did to there Army, you can look on non wikipedia sites for this like PBS, Natgeo, etc. US couldn't handle Mexico

You don't make any sense. 1) How could Mexico have won the war if the 2 biggest cities were invaded and conquered by General Scott? 2) Why would the USA beg for a treaty if they already conquered the capital city of Mexico and Santa Ana had already surrendered? 3) Why on God's Green Earth, if Mexico won, give up more than 500000 square miles of land to the US and Texas? 4) If Mexico was so powerful, why was it never a World Superpower during WWI, WWII, or today?

There where also more Deaths on the American Side, Also Puebla is a scrub state, like all the people i know from there can't even read. It doesn't matter who had the most deserters. The bottom line is that the US won, Mexico lost. Back in the 1800's Puebla was a Mexican stronghold and the 2nd largest city. And Mexico City was and still is the capital today and the US conquered that city as well.

USA doesn't feel sorry for anyone. Especially since Mexico killed so many Solider s at the time, I'm surprised they didn't take it. I don't think they would sympathize after taking so many American Soldiers. Also it would give USA more bragging rights because as i remember it correctly, A lot of European country's believed USA would lose, But it didn't it was a DRAW, and im not bitter because this happened like over 150 years ago. it really didn't affect me but it sure was a DRAW.

You are making no sense again. You say you love the USA, yet Mexico in your eyes can do no wrong. If Mexico is so great, then why is poverty and drug cartels and crime so prevalent in Mexico? Why is the gov't so powerless to control crime in it's own country? Yes, the USA is not perfect, but it is still the best country in the world as far as I am concerned I am glad that I live here. To be exact, USA has a lot of Poverty too. 19% and USA has 3 times the population, while Mexicos poverty level is 40%. do the math. Also there are Drug cartels because USA are drug addicts, they demand it we supply it.

Every country has poverty, even the USA. But the poverty in the USA is significantly lower than Mexico. The USA has the 3rd highest standard of living in the whole world. But why don't you just give up your life and job here in the USA and move to Mexico and try to replicate your same livelihood and tell me how that goes.

I'm not saying Mexico is better, but if you have a good job, you can live just fine over there. The only difference is that opportunity is not abundant In Mexico and its Harder to get a job like it is in USA. Remember, over 60% of the population of Mexico is just fine and probably will never need to go to the USA.
