What the hell is Paul wearing? I thought his normal getup was bad.. now he looks like a lazy college kid who rolled out of bed and is about to drink beer and play video games all day
I really like Mike McShane, he's a pleasant surprise on the show considering I started watching the UK version because I've overwatched the American version. And for how many fans Tony Slattery has, I find I don't care for his humor too much. Perhaps I just don't get the references.
I'm also pleased that I enjoyed Greg's performances since his first episode. He seems to shine with his snide comments and wit.
This is one of the best line-ups ever, which could've been perfect if Ryan had Sandi's spot. Paul's just hilarious, Greg's a ton of fun, Tony's...well, Tony, Mike's a big, lovable hoot, and Josie's the only female contestant on the show who leaves the viewers wanting more.
Nothing against Sandi really. She's like Ron West: truly excellent, but doesn't leave that big of an impression.
I know it won't make any difference, since this was made YEARS ago, but Greg [and the caption people] got it backwards. The authors name is Clement Clark Moore, they reversed the C's.
whoaaaaa it's Greg with short hair! And Tony was great in this too! I had to keep watching his bit in the Authors game to catch everything, I was laughing so hard.
"Dear Santa, don't bring me a large bowl like ya brought me last year, ya fat git! Because I specifically wrote you and said that I wanted a 'Masters Of The Universe Torpedo', with uh, with batteries in it, but my sister disappeared with it.
Is it just my eyes playing tricks on me or does it always look like Tony stand with his pelvis tilted forward? Not of course that I'm looking there lol
He may have flat feet like me. It's pretty common and you have to stand like that to compensate a tiny bit. Of course he could just like thrusting his pelvis everywhere, it is Tony...
I like Paul and Tony. But both are kinda cukoo. Paul later went insane and went into a mental institusion, saying he was seeing things, and Tony had a depression type breakdow thing...And Greg's cool as well, but to me, he looks much better now than back then, now he's way less geeeky.
Yeah the craziness makes em more loveable, even though I must admit I am not too fond of Paul. Greg! The geekiness was too cool! I loved him with fat specs and his bracelets! :)
Comedians and artistic kind of people are well known to be more suseptible to mental illness...I guess its just there brains work slightly differently or something equally as scientific.
The "problem" is, that both -Tony Slattery and Paul Merton- suffers from bipolar disorder.
And the (hypo)manic phases can effect the creativity. Lots of bipolar people are very creative in those phases, but "down" on the depressed phases, like them too.
I'm just really glad that they got diagnosed and so could work out a way to live with it.
This mental illness might even be the reason for their success, but that's guesswork.
(Sorry if that sounds a little bumpy, English isn't my first language)
Yes, I read several times about the mental breakdown, but I was sure to have read about him being bipolar too somewhere; but I admit it confused me a little for some reason...
I once read he has had a minor breakdown during the filming of the Christmas Special (Season 2), but I'm not sure if that's true; he looked exhausted sometimes though, but of course that doesn't mean anything.
Sorry, for the mistake, thanks for putting it right ^^
But when I watch interviews he has given after he made it again, I think he was lucky enough and is grown on it. He really made the best out of a crappy situation. And for that he has my deepest respect (same goes for Mr. Fry and Mr. Merton, by the way).
He might not like it, but I think 'cause of that he works as an example for a lot of people.
@VinceVIELUF Funny you should say that about Paul, as supposedly, before the taping of this episode began, Paul had some kind of mini breakdown backstage and when he got seated at his chair (Not sure what caused it). You can see during the intro that Sandi and Josie are leaning over to Paul to see if he's ok. Paul later (allegedly) said he can only remember this taping by watching it on tape, as whatever little breakdown he had fried his memory of anything that day.
The 2x07 is just a way to keep track of which episode it is. 2 = season 2; 07 = episode 7. I have to keep everything in order because I'm odd like that. :)
You're right. I think he was uncomfortable. I believe he had to take a break for a while. He did actually have a breakdown, resulting from a combination of several things. He'd been mugged in Central Park, he'd been hospitalised as a result of playing football. It's all in my own poem, and he got severely stressed and broke down. Luckily, he realised something was wrong and booked himself into the Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital for 6 weeks.
Paul Merton, born Paul Martin on Tuesday the 9th of July 1957 - pointless information, I know, but I thought it would come in useful... probably won't though, I don't know.

Paul didn't exactly go insane, he was just overworked. Actually, I thought his thing happened around the time this was filmed, early 1990s.

Well your not wrong about one of the cast having bipolar. Tony Slattery is bipolar, he had his breakdown in 1996...
Akitoluvswaffles 2 years ago
Yes, I knew that about Tony Slattery. And about Stephen Fry.
But I didn't got them confused (unfortunately; that would sound better ;-) ), I was just wrong.
I read about Paul Mertons nervous breakdown, but I read as well on a few pages, that he's bipolar (which seems to be wrong, as I know now).
BSyron 2 years ago 2
Yes though it is a shame that Tony had a nervous breakdown he is awesome....

It certainly was a hard time, I'm sure of that.
