  • The best cover of this song after Sam Cooke.

  • he is so skinny i want to know how he sounds so good :D. lol only Terence..... i wounder if his parents new he was this good,

  • Seals' version is way better--Terence kinda sounds like a little girl

  • sorry but this is such a bad version of a very beautiful, and powerfull song. Better listen to otis redding, thats so AWESOME!!!!!!

  • I'm just a big ol 48-year-old white woman that loves T. T. Darby. Yep, we come in all sizes, shapes, and colors (us fans). This is the fist time I heard this song, and I have to say, I was blowed away by his tenor voice. He has such a wonderful range in voice. TRUE TALENT! :0)

  • 15 morons who don't know good music....

  • D Haddon's version is 11 out of 10....but I'll always be a Terrance Trent D'Arby fan....

  • GREAT VIDEO. if you believe in tolerance and hope you must watch on you tube YOU SYMBOLIZE HOPE

  • Loved TTD since the '80's.He kills this in his powerful, classic style.Breathtaking.

  • simply fantastic, wooow

  • Best version that I have heard. Amazing voice. Brings tears to my eyes

  • @ScRipted2011 .....ummm...hello.....no way close to the best, but its good.......7 outta 10; Otis is 10 outta 10; Al Green 9 outta 10; Sam is 8 outta 10.

  • @Brezinski1000

Sam Cooke is 10 outta 10

  • Respond to this video...

I do like how Terence made this his own. That's not easy to do with such a wonderful song such as this one, done by a brilliant vocalist such as Sam Cooke.

  • I love his voice and this is a good version, but Sam Cookes is better.

  • Would have been better if we could see him singing it i guess

  • I just made it 15 people that dislike this and I'm sure the other 14 prefer the original Sam Cooke version to this.

  • Kolargool... This entire thing was so well put together. I absolutely adore Terence and this song. The two together with moving pictures moved me to goosebumps three times and counting.

  • Best Version ever.. Terence is the best

  • Iconic song + Strong Voice = Heaven on Earth !

  • what a mesmerisingly beautiful voice you have, Sananda ! The beautifully varied textures-silky and then turning smoky

  • There are fourteen (14) people out there who cannot stand change!

  • @blacknosugarnocream There 14 people that on't like themselves for give them for they know not what say r here! from DC keep on posting.

  • Respond to this video... the video is the bomb

  • i like this version better!!

  • Samanda rocks and i feel lucky for seeing him live here in Portugal some years ago!!

  • some moving words in this song

  • Well, this started off slow and high, and I was thinking: hmmmm and then he went for it. Great version.

  • One of the most shameful chapters in american history...From injustice to justice !!

  • @davisgreen2020 Yeap many sad chapters in USA history, the indians, the buffaloes, slavery, civilwar, gangsters, commy-hetz, nam-war etc.

  • @davisgreen2020 Yeah? You think "justice" exists now? How long will those who let loose their grasp tolerate their own error? How long will they suffer their sons and daughters being gang raped, tortured and murdered like Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome, like the Wichita Massacre, like Tiffany NIcole Long, like Anne Pressly, like Eve Carson, and countless more. How long will they suffer this while being constantly told how bad their grandparents were? Not much longer.

  • BEST VERSION EVER!!!

  • I find it amazing that 13 people disliked this, Black folks need to remember too many died for a cause we do not even continue in. The way we act now would hurt all of our leaders in from the past. Let's turn this around and not be known as thugs, or hood folks but educated people. With the intentions of independent wants of success. Time to go back to RESPECT instead of being looked at as jokes!

  • @Covie1233 so true it hurts

  • @Covie1233 Are you assuming the 13 "haters" are black?

  • @Covie1233 Just like the Northern Ireland Catholics!!

  • ...just Briiiiiiiiiiiilliant !

  • WOW... Damn good effort

  • He makes a good fist of this - not in the same class as Sam Cooke, but pretty decent, nonetheless.

  • Peace and LOVE will change this world...nothing more will work. God bless. It is up to US to Make That Change. :)

  • This track is brilliant Amazing

  • This is the shhhhhhhhhhh! If you ain't feeling this you're dead!

  • so soo beautiful

    R.I.P my brother Malcolm X

May Allaah give you a place in Firdous (Paradise) inchaAllaah

  • Yes, gigiall4me but Cornellie has so much soul and passion when he sings this song that it will change your mind about Seals version and I am a BIG Seal fan but this young man puts it down so deep....listen once

  • This man is and has always been the truth...if you like this song, give seal's version a chance, you can feel the raw emotion better than you hear the words... Ttd,seal,Bono,Stevie, they all are the truth. God bless

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE, ONLY LOVE!!!

    JESUS CHRIST

  • only one word : WONDERFUL !

  • Yeah it would a great great great great CD if he did all classics. His version of "A Wonderful World" is to die for...

  • TTD/Sananda Maitreya is the best. He is even better than Sam Cooke - though both versions touches me, but Sananda is magic. True art.

  • Okay, if you think so, keep saying so. The meaning of the song - well, anyone who has experienced inequality can take it as their anthem - & going by comments, do. Why Adam has sold out just to sell a few is beyond me. He went from an okay singer to just plain off - a la Kylie/Madonna/Gaga... But this is about TTD - most voices are just nowhere near close to his - Adam's included.

  • I agree with Sswood Adams version is WAYYYYYYYYYY better...Adam is a wonderful talented artist :)

  • @crazychickdanielle Thanks! :D I respect everyone's opinion. I wasn't bashing TTD. I love him forever. I just prefer ADAM's version of this song. Though I'm sure Sam Cooke did it in a time where it was most certainly meant for Civil Rights, it's still relevant today. BTW, I might should also mention I prefer ADAM's version of any rendition of any song, period.

  • Beautifully executed. Excellent!

  • As absolutely beautiful as this is, and as much as I love love love TTD, ADAM LAMBERT's version is better. :)

  • @MsSwwood Technically more perfect, but nobody (including Sam Cook) puts this much heart and soul into this song

  • @MsSwwood - sorry, I don't think so. Adam is a prancing show pony and he doesn't feel the song. He does it how he expects the judges or fans to hear it. He would NEVER know or feel it like this. Please don't insult TTD or any other African American in such a way....

  • @lululangford You are wrong on so many levels. I have the UTMOST respect for TTD. ADAM is NOT a show pony. He's the best voice of the current generation. ADAM did NOT sing this song in such a way just to please the judges. He sang this song way before his AI stint. He sang it in a stage show years ago. For him and many others, including myself, it's in reference not only to AA rights, but gay rights. I assure you ADAM DOES know the meaning of this song and the feelings are genuine.

  • EXCELENT!!!!!

  • I am and always have been a Terence Trent D'Arby / Sananda Maitreya FAN. He is THE MOST BRILLIANT WRITER SINGER THINKER TALENT of my time. I adore and respect everything about his MIND and ACTIONS.

  • Peace brothers and sisters, we need to hold tight and stand firm in these times. We are the platfrom on which our children will tread forwards.

  • @99camberwell

    Beautifully said !!!

  • @AnnieKlein34

Thanks Annie. Sometimes we've got loosen the chains and the excuses of the past and take responsibility for being the light of the future.

  • @99camberwell

I say it again: beautifully said !!! ;-)

May the light shine on us all...

  • @99camberwell amen.

  • @99camberwell Beautifully stated! A change will/has come & will remain!

  • I'm not really a Terrence Trent D'arby fan, but he really did a beautiful job on this song.

  • Go take a running jump arsehole, be a better place without cunts like you. As for my mother and father they brought me up well kid i respect all walks of life. Typical comment off a fucking twat

  • this song touhes me inside. you could say it sits where the love for my son resides....wayyyy down deep! kiaora terence trent d'arby =)

  • you sound wonderful word up!!

  • I love this version because D'Arby puts everything he's got into it, from start to finish.

  • Love this...this is out of this world...(we need to learn to love more ...how long can this trash really go on..enough is enough already..makes me sad)

  • what a voice

  • great voice as good as Aaron neville voice

  • Coolest bit of music ever - shame that arse-holes would rather get wrapped up in their own opinions and miss the experience of feeling the music

  • Damn! What am I missing here? I'm a black american female and I don't feel racism personally at all. I know there was racism many many years ago, but now we ALL should be trying to move pass that and try getting alone. Hell, we probably have just as many whites in our family than blacks. I am thankful my family did not instill prejudice in us and it did make us better people as individuals. Two wrongs will NEVER make a right. We are what we are and God will judge in the end.

  • @ina36682 you most be living in lala land, please remember to invite me there some day soon. am sorry, as sweet and promising your comment sound, am afriad it is an illusion, lets know pretend. in your eyes am bitch, i rather be a bitch and see racism go away, than be nice and pretend racism dont exist. what is happening to obama and the death threat? no is not racism , please give me a fucking break.

  • @ajahamza, I just saw your reply. I'm in the same place you are. I'm not pretending, I am who I am. I REALIZE there's a lot of prejudice here. I'm only speaking for ME. I'm not prejudice and won't allow black nor white man instill in me. We all make personal choices and that's the one I've chosen. No! I would never prefer to be called a BITCH by anyone! If you would then that's fine with me. You may have ALL the breaks you want. Like I said, in the end GOD will be the judge not YOU!

  • Didn't Booker T and the MG's back him up on this?

  • No need to compare to Sam because Terence actually made this his own. The voice is great. The different tempo sounds great.

  • @brrtown

I agree with you. I'm "crazy" about this tempo. To me, is the best version for dancing, intense enough!

  • Terence T has one of best voices of our generation. Hope he releases more music soon. ...

  • i never heard this version...terrific!

  • love this version...........x

  • ajahamza - stop preaching history an playing the race card you soppy twat. Everybody's equal these days. Live in the present an not the past. As Sir Bob said "ONE LOVE"

it's about as real as pamela anderson tits :)

Trent is amazing just enjoy and let racism for those who needs attention :)

  • I love your pictures

  • TTD and Otis...they both own this song

  • you did that song just right sam would be proud

  • PEACE TO ALL HUMAN BEINGS

  • I must I say - I am white but I've had black best friends and I watched rascism 1st hand when I was with them in public in Atlanta, Georgia. Ironically, Atl is now mostly black.

  • Simply outstanding.

  • my man can sing. he sung the hell out of that song.

  • Things take time, but this song is asrelevant as it ever was, killer cover too... not Sam Cooke but...

  • loved it

  • I love how this BUILDS....and BUILDS...and the passion in his voice.

  • YOU TELL EM TERENCE

  • i luv how raspy his voice is... after his 2nd album he disappeared oh well

  • This guys voice is like a jet engine...so powerful, dynamic.....advanced...and wonderful.

  • This song and video brought tears to my eyes.....HeartWrenching Beautifull stuff !!!

    Thankyou for uploading it................Peace n Respect !!!!

  • Not bad but personally I think there are some songs that should be left in in original form and this is one of them. In my top 5 songs of all time- Sam Cooke version!

  • @Teddybhoy32 Agreed. This song is lovely to listen to and really chills you out. But Sam Cooke's i can feel the experiences he is singing about more. Both good in their own style but i prefer Sam Cooke.

  • @KAHUNAGAN me too

  • Terence did justice to this song by Sam Cooke. Its prophetic songs like these that that help usto appreciate change and not take one another for granted. Be the change yu seek in somebody- Ghandi

  • My heart goes out to the blacks of that day. Dark time in american history. My love goes out to the ones who remained peacemakers even during the etreme racism. We all can learn from you. Change is coming now. This time no one will be excluded. I pray for peace but I know which path society will choose. The hate and violence in the world will be the end of us all. Change is gonna come.

  • I love this song!!

  • Get over it !!!

  • @pianoalien: Justice of Black people is coming, you can't see it, but it's coming, your friend, your allied friend who has been a closit enemy, is destroying America you can't see it. Both sides of the coin makes one, your wickedness is not going to be tolorated any longer. Israel & Britain is one of the same coin, you will be destroyed America, it's happening only you don't see it.

  • tks from argentina kolargool.the only problem are the comments.Nothing to do with music.pitty

  • I hope a change dose come and in my life time ,peace and love xxxx

  • wow! well this is as good as sams version and i never thought i would say that.. quite beautiful... always loved your sound x

  • @lornadlee I agree 100%.

  • Terence is in my opinion the best singer who ever lived. He never lip syncs yet his voice is always perfectly soulful and rich, and still he can sing a ripple free aria. This man is ridiculous. But Sam's version as it was put, "sounds like death." And wasn't that the point. Here in the states we blacks were expendable. We just didn't matter. In spite of Sam's words there was this sense that, in the present, that future change, does us no good. Its similar to, "I have a dream...etc."

  • @guitarsoulman So do you like it? XX

  • @TheBettyboo62 Of course, jus love it. XXXX

  • Great cover! Thanks for posting this gem from TTD!!

  • Great Voice!

  • you know whites can run from oppression but blks cannot run from oppression. the europeans ran to america they ran to austrialia they ran to africa and every where else on the planet to escape class and status discrimination.blks can't run from their skin or heritage,. you can hide your class and status and start anew elsewhere but when your blk it is your melononin that restricts you. the blk holocaust has not ended yet. dont let a half blk president fool you.

  • @tiye777 u ARE the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • here alli every race in this planet is oppressed,us Scots still don't have our own country, read about The Highland Clearances where Scots got castrated for wearing our plaids by our own so called British Army, the killing of babies by these troops, their bayonets were called "Baby Killers" they had a certain method of killing baby boys and girls individually with these bayonets when the Highland villages were razed to the ground. Forget "Braveheart" read the truth and then talk about injustice

  • thanx you

  • What a lovely version of a lovely song. My fav thou is George Benson, listen to it if you can. XXXXX

  • super voix , une des meilleures reprises

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful video. The images are as powerful as Sam Cooke's lyrics.

  • That's correct. It saddens me what convenient memories some folks have, and their choices not to remember the injustices done against people of colour by the savage hand of the white man... the so-called intelligent race.

  • @Alecia1974 Agreed!!

  • thats my guy!!!!

  • Great!

  • The Best cover of this song for sure, Sam's will always be THE best version, but this has the emotion too... truly beautiful,

  • George Benson covers this brilliantly, check it out if you can.

  • ♥

  • is dis guy from ireland or germany!!!!!!!!

and why is he singing about german crackheads......

  • There can't possibly be a better cover of this song...Terence was and always will be the BEST drastically overlooked Genuis singers ever!

  • am a big fan of terence myself and i agree totally with your comment about him being a drastically overlooked genius singer, but i do think there are better covers of this song out there .

    vel omarr springs to mind

seal also did a great version i would say on a par with this one

and lets not forget luther vandross who altogether changed the song with his own lyrical stylings

  • Great cover, Terence did Sam Justice.

  • @like2seeit86 I strongly agree!!

  • @like2seeit86 yes he did, much justice.

  • maybe some should look at Malcom x's past, never mind, you don' really want to know- maybe he's Obama's daddy??? no ...don't look.

  • Olisi ihana kuulla lisää sinusta. Muistan sinun mahtavat biisit -80-luvulta. Aivan upea biisi. Kiitos tästä.

  • why would people be upset if at some point Malcom X was a racist... he had reason. Blacks were being beaten tortured and killed by whites. You would have to be God almighty not to retaliate when your life and futer and future of your loved ones are in danger. Whites have a bad attitude about those racist against them, but where did the black white issue start - with whites oppressing other nationalities esp blacks.

  • im white and im irish and i know exactly were malcom came from and can understand completely were his views came from...malcom lives forever in every oppressed person still to this day he was as,if not more inspirational than dr.king

  • @alli13941 Right, On they say Malcolm was a "Black Supremacist ".

But I ain't never seen a Black Supremacist blow up churches with little girls.

I ain't never seen a Black Supremacist hangin' white people either.

  • @alli13941

What you have to remember is that whilst the rich whites had slaves they also had ignorant white "serfs" who had a marginally different status. The 1870 Education Act in the UK established full time schools for the white working class and in this process they were taught about the Empire and white supremacy. Racism is thus a social construct coming down from "up above" Divide and rule stuff. I'd argue it is our collective class position that defines us.

  • @alli13941 I would be happier, if you said "many whites" or "some whites" or something similar, but not "Whites", because there are millions of whites on this earth that are no racists and have equally treated all peoples alike, not taking into consideration colour, religion, race but just behaving humanly. I suppose in your opinion america is the whole world, which, with all my due respect, is a very limited way of judgement..

  • @KnightGrandprior Perhaps you assume that I am american by that statement you made. I am Bajan, I have lived in the Uk and Jamaica and I have visited America. I was generalizing when said whites, but I think it is understood by blacks across the world that generally speaking, whites have always had some disdain for blacks whether outright hatred or a subtle dislike. I have friends who are white and they do not dispute that their race generally speaking have negative feelings toward blacks.

  • @KnightGrandprior Perhaps you should do an honest study of the white race to see where their opinions lie. Like I said in my previous 500 characters, I have friends who are white and they are great but I believe we are good friends because there is no pretension about race. We talk openly about black and white. I don't think pretending that racism is not a wide spread issue that runs deep in the hearts of the majority solves the issue of racism.

  • @alli13941 Amen! I couldn't have said it better myself! Thank you for telling 'em how it really was, still is, AND always will be!!! <3

  • @alli13941 the only problem....the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. who WON the battle in the Civil Rights Movement, through love and nonviolence NOT RETALIATION.

I understand the sentiment, but violence, retaliation, bitterness and unforgiveness yield DESTRUCTION, but Christian love and forgiveness yield LIFE.

Read about it to see what I'm talking 'bout.

  • @olabashanda I'm very familiar with Martin Luther King and as a pracising Christian I believe in non violence. I don't think in this day and age people are pro violent protest. If you think that's what I'm advocating perhaps you have misunderstood my post.

  • @alli13941 It was the "hate that hate produced". Am I supposed to love my oppressor? These blacks did not even resist and they treated us like dirt. We needed a Malcolm X just like we needed a Dr King.

  • @eagleswing44 I absolutely agree with you. tell it to olabashanda.

  • @alli13941 thats because todays ppl think their much smarter than back in 70s....

i tell you all 1 and once we´re stupid and this would be the 2,nd smart comment here

  • @alli13941 Mostly true but is his present attitude towards jews thats bothering me.

    Great cover song.

  • @isditwelbeschikbaar I'm not aware of it so I can't comment on it.

  • Comment removed

  • @kutunsukakutonoka You do know that there are alot of ethnic cleasings going on in africa among black people. Don't get me wrong, I am totally against racism in any shape or form, but I do fear that it's a trait that belongs to humanity and exists everywhere.

  • @robertvdpoel I did not know this brother or sister thanks for the enlightenment/ The rainbow is about too encapture all that have been marked suited in the armor of Him THE MOST HIGH all can feel and breathe it . Bless you and thaks again

  • @robertvdpoel Yeah colonialism was a bitch, got all kinds of blacks thinking they're are their own enemies to the point it actually becomes true.

  • @robertvdpoel ofc it is in every race... african, croatian, german chinese... its everywhere

  • @kutunsukakutonoka Oh, and I wanted to say that I do agree with the fact that alot of today's racism in western country's (former european settlements) have their roots in white oppression.

  • @alli13941 so true and also just before he died, he had just began to lose some resent towards whites, but still wanted black to fight for themselves. We never got to see how he would've turned out because he was killed around that time. Malcolm X was an ever evolving man, and brilliant.

  • @alli13941

Ummm, not all whites did that. And you don't get to complain about racism, if you're just going to retaliate with more racism. That's hypocrisy and doesn't actually fix the problem. It just places the burden of the problem on someone else. Until everyone just stops being a dumbass, racism will never end. And I'm sad that I will die before racism is finally eliminated.

  • @ccpickre Racism can go away. but pretending it doesn't exist won't make it go away. I guess you think blacks should submissively take what is shoveled at them. Sorry my friend, Blacks would not have freedom had they not retaliated. but I don't expect you to understand.

  • @alli13941

Are you serious? You are racist against ALL white people, because 60 year ago whites were racist to blacks? I wouldn't understand? I DO understand, and I think the Civil Rights movement was absolutely necessary. But I don't think affirmative action does anything to help. Equality by legislation doesn't afford any actual benefit. It's a joke. But hating whites because of 60 years ago is a stupid idea. I'm not racist to black people, so I don't see why I'm hated because I'm a cracker.

  • @ccpickre and I never said i was racist. Some of my friends are white and some are Asian. I just understand the root of racism and hatred against blacks and how it exists today in a somewhat more latent fashion, but it is still there. I think you know that as well. I see a lot of the hateful racist comments directed toward Obama, all i have to do is to read or listen to the news.

  • @alli13941

And fighting fire with fire just goes to show that you have no intention of making the world a better place, you just want what you're owed. Even though you weren't a slave, and you weren't the one being mauled by dogs or hosed or beaten. It's time to stop looking back in the past at what happened. What was, was. I think MLKjr would rather you turn your eyes forward, than to keep looking back.

  • @ccpickre On the contrary, racism is not a thing of the past. I'm not certain where you are living, but it is very alive. Blacks are very aware of it and some people like you pretend it is, as you put it, "the past". How many blacks people are still being insulted on the basis of race today, or still being passed over for jobs. There are still racist attacks against black in the US. But if you think pretending will make it go away, then keep ur head in the sand.

  • @alli13941

Ha, you think because I am a WASP, I'm not judged racially? You're a FOOL if you think that just because I'm white, my life is a walk in the park.

You think life is hard because you're a minority? Suck it up. Life sucks period. For everyone. Whether you're white, black or fucking polka dotted. I'm just tired of people telling me I don't understand because I'm white. I have had many friends tell me how shocked they are that I'm pretty fucking cool for a whitey.
