Not so shure this will work for me my birds are about 4 times as big as that one and have been layers there hole life, but thanks for make a great video on this
Personally I would allow it to be a couple of degrees cooler than I would want it myself as chickens body temp is higher than humans.
I was just wondering, do you wash your chickens just during the summer or cooler months also, I need to wash my hen again she is not well and her vent needs cleaning. Is a toothbrush not to hard? not sure I would want to scrub away at my parts with a toothbrush let alone something a 100th of the size of me.
Thanks for the video! I've been showing chickens for 6 years and this still helped! I didn't know you could use a blow dryer on them cause I thought it would dry out their skin. Not really a chicken bathing question but do you file the beak? I guess you would if it was growing unevenly. But do you?
Thatnk's for the video, its alot of help. I'm preping my year old Barr Plymouth Rock rooster for the Marion county fair. He's big, and I dont think he'll like getting bathed.
thanks for the video.. you have a small chicken.. trying to bathe a 14 kilo bantam is insane!! i didnt know about the toothbrush and the legs, i used to do it by hand.. thanks for the tips!! love your chicken too.
Oh wow I never actually thought about washing my chickens. I was brought up with the practice of free ranging my hens so they could take dirt baths. Question, do the chickens live longer and healthier lives if they are bathed regularly?
You could, but it is thicker than lotion and won't soak in. Some other things you could use to make the comb look bright and healthy are chapstick, olive oil, or carmex.
I think that bathing her 1-2 days before a show would be fine =) Light colored birds get easily dirty even if you try and make their home spotless lol You can also bring wet wipes to the show and wipe off her feet and parts on her feathers that got dirty.
I showed in a non- 4-H or FFA show in my state and it was the same. So you should be okay ;) depending on which state you live in, you may have to walk your bird across the table or pose your bird four
different ways (front, left side, right side, and behind) though.
And last, a tip from me about showmanship lol..... Let out EVERYTHING you could possibly know about your bird! You need to know her variety and breed and disqualifications and defects for that breed and variety, you need to know the color of the earlobes, the type of comb, the correct color of beak, and you need to know about defects and disqualifications for overall chickens. Just say everything you know! lol =) Good luck!
I have a light cream/orangeish xD colored hen that I plan on showing, do you think I should clean her more like the day before or 2 days before the show, because she's a lighter color and is more likely to have the dirt seen and be dirtier? Or would you say 3 days will be fine?
I also saw you showmanship video, will the showmanship proscess be different if I'm not in FFA or 4-H?
Well it all depends. If your none showing birds are kept in dirty conditions or possibly have parisites, than it is a good idea to wash them. You can set up a bathing plan of may be once a month or once every two months to prevent parasites and to keep your flock at its best. You can also improve egg production by keeping your birds clean =) just a tip. thanks for the question ;)
man when i was little all the chickens I raised(2) always runs from me and i've had them since they were chicks.
How the hell did you get yours to be so calm?

Great job on the video. I show my dog, but, I've always kind of wondered how one would groom poultry. I enjoyed learning.
