To be able to choreograph a dance to a song with a set tempo you have to understand how to count it. Dancers usually count in 8s where each beat in the music is a count. To teach the step first know how fast you want it in the song and which accents you want per count. Then knowing the dance movements with the counts the dancers can pick up the steps.
My question is how do you put together the steps for yourself and then teach it to your dancers? It's a question of timing, i think. You imagine and then do the step but.. To learn it, it helps to time it, no? I always here instructors counting or using words but I don't understand how they come up with a way to communicate what they want to others. I am not a choreographer obviously but I've always wondered about this process of learning and teaching dance moves.
