@99dodgeram360 the autos do not last unless you fork out the money for an ATS or suncoast forged billet tranny i am on my second OEM tranny with 250K miles on the truck and a buddy of mine has the same truck but with a NV4500 (manual) and his shifts just as crisp as the day he bought it ... i am jealous
So i've heared a guy told me to get a manual tranny if i want a 2nd gen dodge diesel. I own 2 Jeep Grand Cherokee's a 5.9 v8 and the inline 6, the 6 has closing 180k on it original tranny the 5.9 has 125k original tranny altho 125k isnt alot.. But ya i have never driven manual before.. but i know alot about how often chrysler RE series transmission fail so it makes sense to get a manual if you get diesel. I think a auto would be fine if you get the 5.9 gasser tho
@Cummins24v01 the 12 valves r the 6 cylinders right? and the 24 valves r the v8's right? ford and dodge both run in my family i kno more about ford but i also love cummins
@dodgeredneck881 Every cummins put in a dodge truck has been a straight 6. the only thing thats changed over the years was either electronics or fuel systems. the 12 valves were all mechaniical meaning no electronic control of the engine. in year 98.5 they went to the 24v. which they added 2 more valves to each cylinder, changed the fuel system to the electric VP44 pump and with the electronics you could chip them for some plug and play action. in 03 they went to the common rail fuel system
@dodgeredneck881 contiueing...and in 07 they went from almost 20 years of the 5.9 liter to the 6.7 liter. its basically the same engine just bigger. it's still a straight 6, just with a bigger bore and longer strokes. but ya every engine since they came in dodge is a straight 6.

I want a Cummins, does it really matter as much as everyone says if you get a manual or automatic?
