The song in norweigan is called "På Vikingtokt" and the melody is from "Parademarsch der Legion Condor" (but it has diffrent text)

Well, they didn't mostly fight for Hitler's cause. They fought AGAINST the Soviet, because they figured it was better the German conquered Norway, rather than the russians. Of course there were Nazi's amonst these as well, but mostly not. And no, they weren't shot. On the most part they only did a short amount of time in jail. By the way; I must admit I think the german lyrics to this song is far better than the norwegian. The german "SS marschiert in Feindesland" is a really, really good song. While the nowegian version here is maybe not that a successful piece. But just my opinion.

It`s not a direct translation of the original german text. In fact it is a completely other version, and the message of this text is a bit different. This is more like a SS battle song which is specifically norwegian. There are a lot of references to nordic and norwegian history here.

The Division saw its highest number of volunteers during June 1941, with a total of just under 20,000 men. This was shorty after it became known as Wiking. Before that is was Divison Germania.

Hope I was of some help.

It had three Infantry regiments, Germania being formed mostly of ethnic Germans. Westland was of Flemish and Dutch.. Nordland was comprised of Danes, Swedes, and Norwegians. And later in the war an Estonian unit joined them.
