I've played w/ all mobile OS'. Played around w/ an iPhone for a bit, that got old. Owned an Android phone w/ 1.5, 2.0, 2.2 and 2.3. Good stuff. Now I own a Windows Phone w/ Mango. Truly the cleanest OS to date. Too bad people will not give it a try, but from the friends I have showed it to, they like it. I let em use it and play with it and they do indeed like it. One thing ppl boast about w/ other phones is ZOMG I HAVE SO MANY APPS. But those are useless apps most of the time.

They buy popularity through ads and campaigns. Google is more like viral marketing which is cheaper. Think open source. Then they can also afford to pay the right engineers and make good products.
I wouldn't underestimate Google at any time. They are a real threat to MS.

Windows Mobile was never really meant to be a "mobile OS for the masses" so to speak. It's almost always been for the power-user sector of the consumer electronics market.
It's only really been pushed by Microsoft onto more mobile devices in recent years. It never meant to directly compete with iPhone because Windows CE has been around since '96. The platform had always been designed for much more than just phones and PPCs.
Yup. In fact, did you know that Windows Mobile isn't just limited to PPCs and that Ford Sync system? It runs the price scanner I use at work and even some Garmin GPS devices!

Good points you made there, but that isn't exactly the Microsoft business model. They make the OS then license it to everyone (including God himself, it would seem). So, they don't really need to create the hardware to take on an OK / good smart phone. Again, good points you made. Just throwing a little extra commentary in there to consider. BTW, I use a Macbook and a Windows PC. I'm a 'fan' of neither. They both have their pros and cons.
i wouldn't count Microsoft's windows mobile platform out . Its not quite as "use able" as IPhones OS, but it generally has more features to it, and exposes the devices features in their entirety.
I do wish Windows Mobile was a little more lightweight, but as device capacity goes up, this will be less of an issue i suppose.
I chose an HTC diamond over a Iphone simply because the Iphone is far too locked down for my liking. And being a application developer, thats important.
Even if one likes the Windows development environment and platform, Windows Mobile doesn't solve the primary problem of many Windows Mobile users: they don't know how to install and run apps. They use the phone like a phone with some PIM features.
I don't totally agree with everything you said, but ill agree it is easier to install/run applications on IPhone.
I use a lot of features exposed on windows mobile devices, notably email, google maps, camera/video recording, youtube, as well as an array of custom web connected applications ive written myself.
I would imagine that the majority of winmo users would be doing the same.
I'm like you - give me anything programmable, and I'll use it up. Most users, however, aren't like that. The people at my work seem to mostly use it as a phone, txt, play the included game, and surf the web a little. It's basically an MS Exchange terminal. It doesn't matter if it's WM, Blackberry, Palm, iPhone, Symbian, or Android. Well, the UI DOES matter, but they don't load up apps, probably because they don't know how, or where to find them.

I don't think Steve has credibility in the mobile market anymore. He made a mistake about the iphone and he is making the same mistake about the android system in phones. He needs to stop giving his two cents about it. If they want to compete, they need a new face in the company.

If he wants to rebuild, he should start by teaming up with apple. the first project is get google off of their computers and phones and put bing on them. It's time to compete with google.

Windows Mobile does have great openness, I can run 3rd party apps unlike on the iPhone where you can only run stuff you buy from the app store.

Windows Mobile was never really meant to be a "mobile OS for the masses" so to speak. It's almost always been for the power-user sector of the consumer electronics market.
It's only really been pushed by Microsoft onto more mobile devices in recent years. It never meant to directly compete with iPhone because Windows CE has been around since '96. The platform had always been designed for much more than just phones and PPCs.

Yup. In fact, did you know that Windows Mobile isn't just limited to PPCs and that Ford Sync system? It runs the price scanner I use at work and even some Garmin GPS devices!

Good points you made there, but that isn't exactly the Microsoft business model. They make the OS then license it to everyone (including God himself, it would seem). So, they don't really need to create the hardware to take on an OK / good smart phone. Again, good points you made. Just throwing a little extra commentary in there to consider. BTW, I use a Macbook and a Windows PC. I'm a 'fan' of neither. They both have their pros and cons.

i wouldn't count Microsoft's windows mobile platform out . Its not quite as "use able" as IPhones OS, but it generally has more features to it, and exposes the devices features in their entirety.
I do wish Windows Mobile was a little more lightweight, but as device capacity goes up, this will be less of an issue i suppose.
I chose an HTC diamond over a Iphone simply because the Iphone is far too locked down for my liking. And being a application developer, thats important.

Even if one likes the Windows development environment and platform, Windows Mobile doesn't solve the primary problem of many Windows Mobile users: they don't know how to install and run apps. They use the phone like a phone with some PIM features.

I don't totally agree with everything you said, but ill agree it is easier to install/run applications on IPhone.
I use a lot of features exposed on windows mobile devices, notably email, google maps, camera/video recording, youtube, as well as an array of custom web connected applications ive written myself.
I would imagine that the majority of winmo users would be doing the same.

I'm like you - give me anything programmable, and I'll use it up. Most users, however, aren't like that. The people at my work seem to mostly use it as a phone, txt, play the included game, and surf the web a little. It's basically an MS Exchange terminal. It doesn't matter if it's WM, Blackberry, Palm, iPhone, Symbian, or Android. Well, the UI DOES matter, but they don't load up apps, probably because they don't know how, or where to find them.
