  • @OnionKnight4124 Actually Mother 1 was going to be brought to the US. It was cancelled. The main reason the Mother series cant be localized in the US is copyright laws and "the violence"

  • @Jan4Jen I sudgest you buy the original copies then emulate it. You have to buy it or it will be illegal.

  • This song sounds awesome at 2x speed as well.

  • Dear mum, Dear dad.

If something happen and i die when you just live...

Please, play This song at my Furneral

  • this game should be the number one played game of all time. It makes you think, laugh, cry and most of all realize the power of friendship. This game is unlike the new ones, out there with its bloodshed and whores. But this is the kind of game that children and adults alike would truly love.

  • When like a vid isnt Enough....

    need a Love button...

  • 13 people suck at playing this game

  • I always cry when I hear this song like now

  • I didn't know I could feel all these feels.

  • Good bye for now, ninten, ness, lucas, and co. we may have finished your adventures, but we will never forget you guys. you taught us, that love, wisdom, courage, and friendship will aways conquer evil's black heart, and to never give up hope on those you love. Though people criticized your games for being too simple on the graphics, to us your graphics mean nothing. May mother be remembered forever, and passed down from generation to generation. We miss you.

  • 5:11 This talking FREAKED me out when i was 7

  • @tacodude007 It's the creator, Shigesato Itoi.

  • @tacodude007 Really? For me it was the thing that opened the tear ducts, first time i cried at a video game.

  • it been 1 year since i beat this game

still love it and definitely one of my all time favorites

  • It's so sad that I have never played this game because I'm Finnish, but at least I managed to import Mother 3, and I loved it so much, even tough it was a tad bit on the short side. God I want to play Mother and Mother 2 so bad.

  • Lol I have never played Mother or Mother 3 (obviously) or Earthbound (on Amazon it goes from $199-$599 D:) and I don't have the stones to illegally download an entire game here.... But MAN do I feel tempted now...

  • @pastaandawesomesauce Well, you yourself cannot be arrested or anything, and if you can then me and several thousand other people would have by now, if you do download an emulator and ROM. I myself finished Earthbound the other day and it is fantastic. Whether you do buy one or download a copy, or niether for that fact, I just hope you're happy with your desicision.

  • @OnionKnight4124 The definition of irony- right after posting that comment and working to earthbound music, i finally couldnt take it anymore and downloaded a ROM, Fan Translation, and Emulator to play Mother 3. Only an hour in, and its already above and beyond my list of favorite Gameboy Advance games :D How did a series this awesome NOT sell and stay in America??

  • @pastaandawesomesauce Cause Nintendo is silly and doesn't like letting America have some of the greatest games they've ever made, unfortunately. I have bookmarked the DL for Mother 3 and have been debating on whether or not to play that one too, I've seen the beginning via chuggaconroy's videos, but I might. I don't understand why Nintendo sometimes thinks "Oh, Americans might not enjoy this game, so we won't translate and ship it to them." When most of the time we will enjoy them.

  • @OnionKnight4124 Ha I agree with you, man. But you also gotta keep in mind that Nintendo isn't Santa willing to make that special new toy you want. It's a company. And a companies first and main priority is to make money and to pay their employees. Mother still is considered the biggest financial failure of Nintendo, and we're lucky they havent stepped even farther away from us because of it. Heck, we're lucky Fire Emblem made it across seas. Hopefully all their other RPG's will follow one day

  • @pastaandawesomesauce I know that it's money and mostly money only. It disappoints me, and disappoints me further that somethings I like are basically on the brink of being shut down/cancelled. But in this time of the world, thats all it is about. Money and power. On a side note, I've only played one Fire Emblem game and that was one for the DS. Don't remember the title. but it was one with Marth in it, but it was still good. Also frustrating when they got a crit and killed a vital charcter.

  • @OnionKnight4124 I hate it when that happens!

  • This song just brings a tear to my eye(fits the name pretty well, Smiles and Tears, all of my good memories as a gamer crammed into one piece, thank you Earthbound and Itoi for this absolute MASTERPIECE of a game.

  • I cant believe im saying this but I really hope they remake this game.

  • This game has everything a good game needs. a funny story, and a amazing soundtrack, that's never over dramatic, bound to get a few laughs, creep people out, mentally disturb people, and make them want to cry. and then there's gameplay. if your fast enough your character won't die. and the graphics are simple, yet elgant, perfect for a fun family game.you never want to see those pixelated sprites go. this game is better than any over rated rpg on the planet. those are the four factors i rate 4/4!

  • words can't express what i'm feeling when i hear this song.......i burst out in tears because it's just so beautiful!

  • The Earthbound series is truly special to me because what other game has you fighting New Age Retro Hippies and Master Belch and MOTHER 3 is the only game that actually made me cry. Kudos to you Mr. Itoi for making :D and T_T

  • "I miss ya'."

  • Oh the glory days. Why have we spread apart? I remember playing this game back in 2009. It was the first game I ever played that made me tear up, I was 13. Earthbound and the Mother series in general are some of the few games with meaning, more so now. Too bad that it won't ever be released on the Virtual Console.....

  • Earthbound's ending was really something. I played it at age 19 two years ago and have no recollection of it when I was younger. I also played Chrono Trigger for the first time at that age as well. Nostalgia may make me think that Yoshi's Island has the greatest ending on the SNES, but Earthbound and Chrono Trigger are up there in the top five.

  • I used to humm this sonv as a kid and here i am at 23 still humming

  • EarthBound epic zombie game it has zombies therfore, making it a zombie,sci-fi and horror game. YOU guys do know what I mean RIGHT?

  • When was this music played? :)

  • @darknumber000 During the credits, where it shows all the photographer's photos of your adventure (not to be confused with the curtain call right before that)

  • @darknumber000 at the end when it shows all of the enemies i think

  • @darknumber000 during the increadible ending. everyone should hear this song in the game because you know youve beaten one of the greatest games of all time

  • so... freakin... amazing *sobs*

  • 13 people got raped by poo. oh wait everyone else did to because poo is just that badass. *cries*

    :')

  • we miss you too earthbound

  • 12 people have no souls.

  • Comment removed

  • Real men can cry.....

  • It's the kind of song that always makes me cry, that ''I miss you'' just reminds me how much I miss my whole family (they're all in Russia, and I can't come back there)...

  • When I saw my name on the special thanks screen, my weakened heart began to weep.

  • I see all the fans in the comments. Where are you in real life? Preferably a big titted babe. Show yourself while whistling Paula's theme.I will liberate you.

  • Ness...I miss you.

    =')

  • @nametobedecided Lucky! There's no more copies for what I see now, I wanted to play it on the SNES not the emulator.

  • I have never noticed Ness inside of the head of the starman guy (I forget what hes called) until now.

  • I'm too young to have owned a snes when it was new. I got Earthbound for Christmas and could not be happier.

  • I was gonna leave this page, then I realized I was homesick, so I called my mom :)

  • EarthBound 3DS would be epic.

  • @vera881 Yeah. Too bad we can't even have a Virtual Console release of it :(

    damn copyrights.

  • @vera881 WHY CAN'T I THUMBS UP MORE THAN ONCE?!?

  • @vera881 Mega Man Legends 3 would be epic.

  • Earthbound, can make men's cry.

  • I miss you...

  • I called my mom after finishing this game.

  • @StormZephyr After playing the game i craved steak...

  • Thumbs up if you think the SNES Sound Chip is legendary because of this song

  • Nintendo! We know you haven't forgotten this series! Port the series NOW!

  • This is by far my favorite song from any videogame

  • Why cant more games have more emotioned put into them like the mother series. Halo, cod, god of war, and all these popular kill shit games, i dont gove a flying fuck about whats happening. Mother makes u laugh ur ass off, cry (well, the 3rd one at least), appreciate the simple graphics, awesome music, and conect to the story and characters...

  • @masaaki221

Because not as many game designers are as emotionally fragile and screwed up as Shigesato Itoi these days, that would be my guess. Now don't get me wrong, I fucking love the man and his creations, but he's uniquely emotionally fragile.

  • K..l.r..i.10 kept praying

  • cod and halo are just so dumb yeah kill a guy you get a pirze if you do but earthbound and all nintendo games are fun for all ages and can have a amezing sound track

  • "I'll miss you"

    Me too :')

  • NINTENDO SHOULD RECREATE THE MOTHER GAMES SO WE CAN FERL THE NISATLGA ONCE MORE!

  • this soooooo epic ♥ mother 3 and earthbound

  • @megandres1994

Nothin' to add. Mother 3 and Earthbound are the two best games ever...

  • @dittogoop I'm talking about touching heart, not what you think.

  • This game touches me like Pokemon does.

  • 11 people have no soul and only play CoD and Halo

  • A game is not popular by it's graphics, but it's popular by it's emotions and stuff.

  • heh... cant belive this still makes me cry, just so nostalgic, my my... hey everybody although my eng is not that good if you undertand this tumbs up!... for every of those who played this and didnt "cry till the end" ^_^ this for me is the best game series ever ^_^

FOR ALL THE MOTHER LOVERS, THUMBS UP IF YOU LOVE MOTHER EARTHBOUND, AND MOTHER 3 COSE THIS IS A MASTER PIECE. at least for me is my master piece. :D

  • @megandres1994 that's gotta be the most homsexual comment I have EVER read.

  • @Guitarsmokerr that's gotta be the most retarded reply I have ever read and you didn't have anything to do 'cose if you had the time to write this shit you must have been bored like hell, or you are just an imbecil and stupid asshole. (^w^).l.

  • @megandres1994 Lol. you seem to love your mother in an unhealthy way. I shall pray for you

  • @jarrettreiber and i shall pray for you for writing such an stupid coment, if you are the kind of asshole who thinks making comments just for pissing people of, i pray that you never get beaten up by someone who won't controll himself and get the crap out of you, and just so you know "pendejo de mierda malparido", i was refering to the mother games not my mother, in fact my mother is dead, you son of a fucking bitch! _.l..

  • @jarrettreiber so is experiencing strong emotion unhealthy for you

  • @megandres1994 i feel the same way. i was rly sad at the end kuz i LOVED this game soooo much. i wish they had an AMERICAN release of the other games. if they make a new one on the wii, it would have to keep the same style as this. (not like what they did with metroid other m)

  • 3:12 :*)

  • Graphics are the current generation selling point.

As soon as graphics are the best they can be, they'll have to start putting more effort into the other aspects of games, right?

    Like music?

  • @Rellik165 Not just music, but story/plot-wise too :>

  • @Rellik165 True, technology can only go so far...

  • This is a video game that had a soul. Graphics be dammed, this is everything you need right here.

  • @MantaStorm 1000 thumbs up but this damn youtube just lets me to put one ^_^. hahaha

  • @MantaStorm Game with a soul...That's what I say the industry needs more of today. Don't get me wrong, there are some. But if people ask me why I never play stuff like military shooters and such I tell them it's because those games do not appear to have a soul to me. What is a game with a soul? Not something that can easily be defined, but you know it when you play it.

  • @MantaStorm Sadly graphics are partly what ruined video games today.

  • @MantaStorm I know exactly what you mean, this game had a soul, and its indescribable how or why...this game just is magical in a way to so many people including me

  • earthbound must have touched people different than any other video game could've...

  • Why can't we have VG soundtracks where the composer actually puts effort into it, anymore? It's really amazing...All these old soundtracks just sound like the composer poured his heart and soul into something seen as a "child's plaything"...and the result was something outstandingly amazing and emotional.

  • 11 pokeys

  • I just finished the game~

I must say, this is an adventure I'll NEVER forget. During the credits scene nearing the ending of the song when the guy says, "I miss you (5:11)," I replied "Awww..!" and felt a tear coming on. Really a game that comes to life.

Thanks Mr. Itoi for creating an awesomely creative, and emotional series.

  • It's unbelievable how many good RPGs the SNES had. I don't think any of us really appreciated what we had back then

  • @trapical

I wish I could add a million more thumbs-up man.

  • *sniff*

  • (cont.) borrow my SNES and the game. I laughed and told him that Call of Duty was destroying video games, and for the first time in my life, somebody my age agreed.

  • I truly love this game. I'm only twelve, so i can't feel the nostalgia other people do, but I've never enjoyed games with the focus of killing. (except for League of Legends!) Once, my friend came over and i asked him if he'd ever heard of Earthbound, and he said he thought it was stupid because there's no blood or killing and one of the characters is a girl.

In response i fired up my SNES and began to play. I played for a whole hour, and after two melodies, he took it back and asked if he could

  • @starclanman I think most children are like that now. They only want whats new and the graphics. The new ones don't have something these old ones do. charm. Games like this, final fantasy's II, III, Secret of mana, Super metroid, Chrono trigger, A link to the past. These games have so musch unmatchable charm. games like Halo only care about killing. These litterally made you sad at times and moved you in a way other games didn't. These games will be remembered forever. This is from a 13 year old

  • @awesomeahow There are still good games nowadays, the point is they aren't so mainstream, like Tales Of Symphonia for example.

  • My name is Liam,I'm 12 and I learned about Earthbound 3 years ago,I have gotten all my friends into it,and I'm helping create new Earthbound fans here in Arkansas,do the same guys. Spread the love. :3

  • RPGs in general are so lame these days... I mean, Bioware games and all those Elder Scrolls games are fun and all, but they aren't nearly as fun, compelling, and deep as the older RPGs. Games like Earthbound and Grandia show that you can have a fun, compelling, deep, thought-provoking RPG, without being rated M gorefests.

  • I'm an 11 year old so while I never got to play earthbound, its sparked even more if my imagination. As said games don't lose their magic.Take Mario for example.Games used to be all about using ones imagination! Now days, all kids in my classes talk about all these shooters. It saddens me very much to see it.While I've never played I love earthbound especially for that reason!

  • () ◕ ᵜ ◕ () ϡ Did you know? There is no crying until the end?

  • Oh God I'm crying like my whole family was murdered in front of me.

  • Back when video games were deeper and magical...

  • @AmateurWisdom everything was deeper and magical back then, but i dont think its that much about the games not being like that again, i think its a thing of growing up and nostalgia, when you were a kid and played that stuff, you imagined all, the bad guys, the worlds, everything was very real in your mind, you felt you were there, then when you grow, things stop being like that, we have things like money and work in our heads, videogames dont lose magic, players do, dont lose the magic fellas

  • @chaggo21 These newer games have grown to be roboticized and cold. They don't provide genuine entertainment: They provide amusement. Games like Earthbound will always captivate the gamers that have enough softness left in their hearts to feel. Many people I talk to who like newer games show disgust for games like Earthbound. The questions I get are usually along the lines of "so when do I start killing things?" It is sad to know that they are desensitized from true masterpieces like Earthbound.

  • @chaggo21 Which explains why plenty of kids 12-13 who have no nostalgia whatsoever think video games were deeper and magical back then. Its just the nostalgia they don't have talking.

  • 5:11 gets me every time

  • who got chills at 4:52?

  • This is my argument for video games being art rather than just time occupiers

  • @mmaaat123 Hell, use this plus Shadow of the Colossus, and you could convince just about anybody.

  • *sniff* I'm going to go hug my mom now.

  • Drinking some whiskey and listening to some Earthbound music = good night.

  • I haven't played this game in ages. *hooks up Super NES and plays.

  • The "I miss you" always sends sad shivers down my spine.

11 people use emulators and hold space down to speed through these cutscenes.

  • This game, well, series, was so great, I'm planning on making a book for each game.

  • Yesterday I was listening to this on my iPhone as I strolled around my local Borders for what will probably be the last time. I'll miss them...

  • 5:12

I was sitting here listening to this as I did my homework when I heard that. It startled me.

  • I haven't lived as long as adults have, I have nothing but My bike and red hat. A smile a laugh and you in My heart, as well as My Baseball bat.

The times we laughed and the times that we cried. No matter what you were there by My side. I thought the two of us were just friends but I hid feelings inside

We had a long journey filled to the brim with fun and hardship, the time flew so fast. Though we have now returned to our homes the moments still seem to last. *2bcont.*

  • *cont.* Our travels came to an end, as I wait in time for you to be mine. Yet wishing stars fell down like a trend. Will there ever be? A chance for you and Me?

We don't need to cry or worry cause the Earth is our provider. Even if we're broken apart we'll still be bound together.

Don't forget Me, if you're lonely listen to my Heart and know that we're far apart but the time we spent together is still there and we don't need to cry or worry cause the Earth is our provider *2bcont.*

  • *cont.* Even if we're broken apart we'll still be bound together.

You made Me strong just being who you are. Like a wind blowing and swaying the grass. I know you always walk with a smile. I wonder if that Smiles last.

We had a long journey, filled to the brim with fun and hardship, the time flew so fast, Though we have now returned to our homes the moments still seem to last.

Yes the two who shared all the smiles and tears, one after the other and now it is time *2bcont.*

  • *continued* to say hat I need you right here. So don't leave Me in the dark. Yes even through all the smiles and the tears know that I still miss you.

Even through all the smiles and the tears....

    (I miss you)

    Please know that I

    please know that I

    Know that I still

Know that I still miss.... you....

  • MOTHER 1 taught me how to sing the melody of love and be more patient (every... three... steps...)

MOTHER 2 taught me how to grow up, through smiles and tears. (every three steps!)

MOTHER 3 taught me to treasure what I have, because someday it could get destroyed, and its hard to re-create those treasures. (every three steps...)

So I thank MOTHER nature for giving us Itoi and all the wonderful people who helped make MOTHER, MOTHER! Without it, I'd cry before the end...

  • 11 People are the kind of people that I would regret meeting. Whoever dislikes such a beautiful masterpiece like this should be ashamed. It's not my opinion, nor my friends. It's everybody's opinion. This game is just so great, I wonder how somebody could hate it.

  • @Seisius If "person A" hears that "person B" like a game, that "person A" has never heard of, better than "person A's" favorite game, then "person A" will hate said game, assuming he's your typical "fanboy", as most people call it.

I'm guessing that about 11 people heard that someone likes EB better than their favorite game, so they decided to hate EB, rather than check it out or ignore it, being the stubborn people they are.

  • Wii have this on classic's?

  • @hanoitwin yes actually the Earthbound game was for the Super Nintendo entertainment system

  • @hanoitwin No. Long story short, there's an enemy named Dali's Clock in one of the game's areas and the copyrights on Dali's paintings have changed since it was first released. It is unlikely it will ever be released on virtual console at this rate, even theough it's the most wanted game. There are only 2 ways to get this game now: illegally download it, or shell out hundreds of dollars for a used NES cartridge. Guess which option everyone chooses.

  • @Monuver Thank's for the answer. i can't believe the reason for this not being available on the wii virtual console and also the cost of buying this cartridge is crazy, hard to believe... i want this game so i know what direction im going in :) peace!

  • @Monuver I've always heard that it was because of music infringement. A lot of the Beatles music was referenced as objects, characters and whatnot, as well as lifts from their songs (Strawberry Fields Forever) is part of one section in the game.

It's what I've heard, not what I can confirm. And FYI, I actually have a Copy of Earthbound on SNES. Gotta love my Uncle for that game (among Others), but mostly Earthbound. Great game.

  • February 11, 2011. The day my life changed. Am I late to the party? Yeah, but at least I got here.

  • @TheKaradom hell yeah i got late to the party too, but im so glad i came... best series ever

  • I'm so appreciative & happy this game was part of my childhood, playing it on the Super Nintendo in a winter morning. I still have it as well, and i'm never going to sell it :D

  • I haven't even played yet, but I'm in love with it. It's my fiance's favourite game, and I asked him if this could be our song we dance to at our wedding. I hope that when I finally get to play I'll have as many good memories with it as he does.

  • NO CRYING TIL THE END

  • My brothers going off to college, in the last five minutes he'll be here i decided to listen to this song and contemplate

  • Earthbound saved my life

  • @Dadge42 how?

  • I miss you.

  • Earthbound is:

    *Population of Mr Saturn*/10!!

  • The title of this song is exactly what it brings to those who hear it.

  • heh, personnaly, it's been my first game ever played. I was about 8 years old when started playing this, my father left and I was living with my dog, my mom and my sister. They never understood the game, as it was a foreign language, I learned it all and now everytime I hear this song, it remind me so much... such irony XD

  • I give the Mother series....

    23252695698496/10

  • @0822kitten i give over 9000 bilions /10

  • @onlycollect Haha, me too. XD

  • @0822kitten NOT LARGE ENOUGH!!!!! lol

  • @Timman96 How does Alterniabound*times*w*times*9001/5 sound?

  • Comment removed

  • earthbound 4 for Wii U and Wii and 3DS! with epic cutscenes and another great epic history, please nintendo, do it!

  • @nintex40 I'm thinking Mother 4 for WiiU, and Mother 1-3 in a compilation set for 3DS.

  • @nintex40 if only they would of thought about knowing that ness has been in the last 3 super smash bros games. It ain't gonna happen just like jfg will never get a sequel. Nintendo doesn't see it as a money maker and there are too many copyright issues involving earthbound.

  • no crying until the end!

  • 5 levels to a video game

    1. i hated it (worst)

    2. it' wasn't so good

    3. it's okay

    4. it's pretty good

    5. EarthBound (best)

  • I've been dying to play Earthbound for a very long time. The problem was, I didn't have an SNES, let alone an Earthbound cartridge.

My dad heard about this and, a few months ago, went out of his way and bought an SNES with some games for $250. He then showed it to me and my brother. It didn't seem like much because he showed us game we already had, but then he put in another cartridge, and we couldn't believe our eyes.

It was Earthbound. I don't know how I'll ever repay my dad...

  • This is Eight melodies REMIXED!

  • I was at a game store, obviously not GameStop because they don't recycle anything older than a DS cart anymore, and I asked the guy at the counter if they had a copy of Earthbound.

    He literally shed a tear.

My mom had to drag me out of the store, we must have talked for an hour?

  • @ToniToniTonitrus Did you eventually go back in to get a copy? :P

  • @electricmastro They never got one. I'll probably buy two carts and sell one to them, just for the hell of it.

  • @ToniToniTonitrus Makes an old timer like me glad i actually bought it when it was released

  • @ToniToniTonitrus that sounds like lots of fun :)

  • MOTHER 3 and Earthbound, god, what can be said about these games that has NOT been said?

I'll go with the generic one.

This game is the best game ever made and the reason all I want for Christmas is an SNES. (I'm 12 years old, not a loser)

  • This is one of the most influential games I have ever played and seen for that mattereven though most games nowadays cloud the minds of younger gamers I still try to spread its classsicness.

  • One of my friends kept talking about things called "Roms" i was like What the heck?..And i remembered i used to play melee like heck and he told me about a game called "earthbound" and told me ness comes from it Ness being one of my favorite characters from melee i obviously wanted it so He downloaded me an snes emulator Got me a rom And my life forever changed..Soon he said a game called mother 3 was being patched and it was earthbound 2 i was happy as heck..Soon downloaded it when it came out
