i would like to say it isn't just alcohol the makes people end up in the river, it is the energy drinks as well. nobody mentions it, but the trend started around the same time mixing energy drinks and alcohol became a trend. people in the 70s and 80s would go downtown and drink cheap g heileman beer and pass out. people in the 90s and 2000s drink vodka red bulls and lose all sense of being while being hyped up on energy.

I moved to LA about a year ago from La Crosse and when my mom called and told me about another drowning, I was seriously curious. I believe there's a serial killer, it's too uncanny. But I love La Crosse, I miss it so! Can't wait to come back. <3

Having come from a larger jurisdiction, a troubling thing with investigations in smaller communities is that you don't have a great deal of investigative resources. The rule in any death should be to "think dirty" and assume a homicide until you absolutely rule it out. Police tend to belittle as "conspiracy theories" anything they aren't able to resolve. No one is alleging UFO abduction. It is irresponsible to rule out murder simply because you can't figure it out.

Yet another student--drinking--river death today :(. I was a prosecutor in the La Crosse area for years, although not directly involved in this case. It seems there is one factor that can probably be determined by the Police Reports that could rule out accident and probably suicide. I haven't seen it discussed. I wonder if the Police are holding it back as information that might only be known by a perp,

Nope. The police are adamant that there is no serial killer. In fact, LCPD Chief Kondracki has recently claimed "There is no serial killer!" and Deputy Chief Eric Larsen has gone as far as blaming the 2 detectives who invetned the smiley face killers theory of preying off of grieving parents. The FBI has also determined there is no evidence of any type of serial killer, that the only thing that ties these deaths together are alcohol.

LOL...When I was 18 I almost became a victim of the Mad Dog 20/20, the kiwi crap. Nastiest alcohol ever produced by man.

I drank the whole bottle and then half a bottle of Fire & Ice, a zima, and an unknown number of bud lights.

I remember puking up the birthday cake we had at the party. It was blue and purple all over the toilette. Next I know I am laying on the floor and it feels as if my whole body is asleep from the neck down. I couldn't move my arms or legs. -I almost died.

The event that inspired me to write this song, was the televised "Town Hall Meeting" on the subject. I watched in amazement and amusement as person after person bombarded Chief Kondraki with conspiracy questions that got more and more twisted. Through this mess, one voice rose above all, the voice of reason, and that was Chief Kondraki. He maintained a calm control, as the room went haywire around him. I wish I had taped it because it was an amazing moment in La Crosse history.

I'm grew up in La Crosse, and we always partied down by the river - mostly getting high on pot. No one ever fell in the river.

The pattern of college deaths near the I-94 corridor does suggest a serial killer who travels for a living and probably hangs out in bars, where he scopes out his victims.

Then again, it's very likely that a drunken college boy just walked to the riverbank to take a piss and fell in.

I'm sorta glad I didn't raise my college-age son up home, now.

I grew up parting in Riverside, Pettibone and partying on 3rd street. Neither myself or my friends ever ended up in the river. Besides how many drunks do you know that fold there closes neatly and leave them on the shore before going for a swim, or accidently falling in the river!

Ya I know! I grew up in La Crosse, and we got drunk ALL the time down by the riverfront. This was in the late 80's before all the renovations to it. Was much more dangerous back then. So they make it safer and then out of the blue boys start "drowning"? Silly.

Personally, I think there is a serial killer doing this.

Not all of the drowning incidents are killings though, some are accidents, but many of them are probably homicides.

How drunk do students have to get to where they just end up flopping in a river or lake?

I grew up in Florida along the coast and use to party all the time and swim while I was drunk and I never encountered any problems.

The unique thing about water is that it washes away A LOT of evidence!
