patenting multitouch gestures is as dumb as patenting pressing a key or opening a door. i don't understand that "I patent everything" behaviour. it seems like it's all about making money and stopping innovation. is that what people want?
@bodypainter99 You make a good point. Reminds me of my favourite Greg Palast quote: "Every landlord of fenced-in intellectual real estate began life as a thief. As Isaac Newton would say now, 'If I see further than others, it is because I stand on the shoulders of giants too dumb to patent their discoveries!'
Amazing technology although now it's become mainstream it's less of a phenomenom now. And jsust because he said the word "multi-touch", all Apple's iPhone multitouch patents fail. MWAH HA HA!!! I love the iPod touch though.
it's rather sad, he went over to the dark side: he's working for the US military. All the patented technology is effectively prohibited from consumer release.
This is awesome stuff. I remember when this sh!t was just ficiton (anyone remember Minority Report starring Tom Cruise?). These are exciting times. Now, if only he'd use his power for good . . . instead of evil . . .
as far as I'm aware Apple created their own version that isn't quite as sophisticated as this. Also, multi-touch sensing has been around for many years. Jeff Han hasn't invented it as such he's just got it working well and started applying it and creating applications for practical use.
I believe the apple version only recognises 2 points of contact. I may be mistaken though.
Actually Microsoft claim they've been working on theirs for the last 5 years. Different technology. Han has been developing his with custom build applications for a range of clients, though. Including the CIA I believe.
iphone what? see the date? it's feb06.. that means it's been in development for a long long time. new to the market and most likely brought to the mass market table by apple cause they get more publicity.
He's right, this technology is just sitting there. I think this would really be cool in software editing as a musical interface. The applications are endless.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw that virtual lightbox. I can tell there were some photo editors in the audience.
