Just curious. Most all of the P-51's I've seen land, performed a "wheel landing"; I noticed your landing was a "3 pointer"...are most all of your landings, in the 51, three pointers? Great video. Thanks.
Nice one. I had a ride on exactly this P-51 of the Scandinavian Historc Flight several years ago during an Air Show in Eastern Germany. Great experiance! My Capt. was my old mate Joe Plaza, he's now on 109...
Thanks for the video. This was a righteous cockpit view and the sound/audio helped to give an idea of just how loud the Mustang was for combat pilots during WWII - especially on long range missions. If you think this 7 minute video wore your ears out, just contemplate what flying a real multi-hour long mission in war-time must have sounded like.
In my book, the P-51 will always be my choice for the best Air Superiority Fighter ever designed. Bare none.
The cocpit is modern and was put in when the Mustang was restored in the early eighties. Warbirds restored in the eighties typically have a modern cockpit and this one even have autopilot.
It is more than 2 years since I made this flight, but I assume Andy get the QNH from Oslo Approach on the radio and then set the right preassure into the altimeter.
I watched your video with a quality set of headphones turned up LOUD!.
Were I strapped into a half-way realistic 'seat', with the appropriate smells wafting by me, the illusion would have been complete!.
Well done indeed.
I used to ride in the front of R.A.A.F. Lockheed Neptune's, out of Townsville and Darwin, Australia, in the nose of course!. At 30-50FT over the ocean, 'buzzing' illegal fishing boats, we would scare the crap out of them!.
I was lucky to fly in a P-51D last year in Williams AZ over the grand Canyon. The pilot did a lot of maneouvers and tight turns. It was out of this world. I only took pictures not video :(
WoW cool video always wondored what it would be like flying in one of these birds thanks.Ya and i can only imagine what it would be like flying from england to berlin in one of these.
Thank you for the excellent vid. Now I can give my boy an idea of what it was like in my P-51 ride in 1982. The exhaust smelled exotic. The distance to the wing tips seemed VERY short. The exhaust note sounded like a Ford flathead V-8 with open exhaust and a low power setting. Same sound most of the time from inside the cockpit. The only indication of real speed was when the pilot, Bob Love, put the canopy 10 feet below the bottom of the cloud deck. Wow! You were lucky and so was I!
I've seen Old Crow fly at several air shows I have attended. What a nice plane. This pilot made it look so easy.

How much to ride in one of those? It really sounds sick, what a machine!!

The jet aircraft waiting on the taxiway for you probably each had a flight crew wishing they were in your seat. Thanks for the ride!

He was adjusting he altimeter to the altitude of the field he was about to land on.
kmccall 2 years ago
The pilot was adjusting the altimeter. Because air pressure varies at different locations, planes must set the altimeter appropriately.

It seems like they are bowing to the real aircraft!
