I learned a good lesson watching your video. It appears that there are over 20 Comments that suggest flying Gatwick or Paris plus Eurostar to London instead of using LHR Heathrow. I knew abut the Gatwick advantage (although was reinforced here) but the Eurostar tip was new and very worthy of note. This is a long past memory for you now. Have you been back and if so did you skip over Heathrow? What was your actual itinerary on this trip?
Of course the queues are so long at Heathrow. BAA bosses don't give a toss about low staffing levels to keep costs down, (as long as they can carry on receiving their obscene bonuses) and maintain the third rate service that they are happy to dish out to their customers.
The place is a shit hole took me 3 hours from landing to getting out including sitting on a very hot 747 for just over an hour no gate to park at WTF are they doing there and having my lugage broken just crap they should take a look at NARITA in Japan very very slick
even when this airport is busy and at weekends i've witnessed check in areas not fully staffed or manned. FOr example 8 check in desk yet only 2 of them are staffed. The whole placed is understaffed. if you are listening heathrow managers you need to fully staff you're airport to maximize efficiency.
always make sure you eat more than you think you'll need other wise you're legs will collaspe standing this long. you screwed in this situation as you cannot get anything to eat and if you walk to the cafe you lose ur place. you think they would hand out food and water in these long waits but they dont bother.
In a few weeks I'll fly from London Heathrow to a country far, far away :-). I'll fly from terminal four on a Tuesday. How long before departure should I be at the airport? My ticket says that I should be there at least three hours before departure but if I take the tube to the airport I'll be there a little later. Not much later, though, just a few minutes, unless the tube is very delayed. Do I run a big risk here? Videos of long queues, like this video, make me fear that I'll lose my flight.
I flew several times from and to Heathrow and I never got delayed more than usual. I've to say that the security control was the fastest and of course the international area was the best of all of them. Heathrow has the best connections to the city as well.
It's a simple question of trying to fly in the early morning and avoid weekends, as the tube connection sometimes is closed, as well as other lines in the city.
If you go through security quickly at Heathrow all the time you should be a lucky person. Because most of the time, Heathrow is just a mess and is also served by some rude staff.
I must be lucky, then, or may be because I usually use T3, which is not the busiest one. But for example, in Stansted I usually take ages to go through, most of the times because of the poor unexperienced tourists who reach the top of the queue and they are not ready. Then in Luton I spend almost an hour, and the staff didn't provide passengers with the plastic bags for the liquids, as they had to buy them for 1pound, so everything was simply chaotic. Gatwick was quite fine though.
In fact, it's best for you to use Gatwick. But the other airports doesn't sound as bad as Heathrow, even with the lines. I also heard T4 is the busiest.
London also has Gatwick Airport, London City Airport, and Stansted Airport. You can also go to Luton Airport, but I believe it's a bit far from downtown London. If you want to go to Paris during the trip to London, you are best off flying to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and from Paris you can take the Eurostar train from Gare du Nord (North Station) in Paris to St. Pancras Station in London.
lmao, heathrow is a hub for all connecting flight, of course it will be very busy and you are wasting your time taking videos, why don't you queue up?
I recently went through the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow - was very, very, very impressed. Modern and efficient and total world class. When the new Terminal East is finished, Heathrow will be among the finest airports in world, which is as should be.
I've never been to Heathrow so I don't know...but many airports have train system that connects between terminals. In Atlanta Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, you have the option to walk or take the train between terminals
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I went there once. This old guy was in line behind me. He had a boner and everytime we moved it kept rubbing in my ass crack. I wanted him inside me so bad...Those old wrinkled balls slappin against my tight ass! Yeah now that's a vacation bitches!
I had a similar incident. I remember back in December 2006, I was flying out of Los Angeles International Airport headed for Atlanta, connecting there for New York's LaGuardia Airport before going home and going through the security was MUCH more complicated that day because I didn't know much about the 'no liquid' rule and the security man searched through my bags and it made me so anxious. Luckily, it ended successfully and I went to my flight.
lol, hopefully you don't have to deal with the line and run into stupid people. I suggest that the next time you book a flight to London, consider Gatwick instead; it's better. I've been to London but never flown there since I took the Eurostar from Paris after staying in Paris for a few days as part of my 1 month trip to Europe in 2002.
Heathrow airport is the worst airport I have ever had the misfortune of using. The arrivals side of it is particularly shocking frought with delays, even before you get off the plane there is usually some sort of problem. I have been to tiny airstrips in Thailand virtually made of bamboo and coconuts that run better than this dump.
If you look deep enough, you can see that I have commented on this video many times. I went on an airplane ten times last summer, consisting of three airplane trips. My air travel experience increased. I understand the liquid ban is really for safety reasons, and I felt relieved once discovering the fact that people can bring liquids if they're in a small container 3oz or less and in a plastic bag. But the line at LHR is still ridiculous. Just like I am no longer restricted from my "best friend"
wel, WELCOME TO HEATHROW AIRPORT! the worlds busiest airport in terms on international flights...along with the dumb strict over rated security, and its dumb long queues, with its AWFUL jam packed refugee like camp of an airside lounge all hot and stuffy and over crowded...ugh! terminal 3 is disgusting.
this happened to me at Zurich airport, after checking my bags in a had to do that security screening things, and it was probaly as long as this, soooo annoying, i was getting the flight to sydney and it was like 6am, and ill a had was a red bull which i wanted to save till i sat down, then security were like "o no you dont you cant bring this through" so the guy just put it down on his desk, im like well fark you lol
Something similar happened to me at JFK International Airport in New York City; I was flying Delta Air Lines from Incheon, South Korea to Atlanta, Georgia, USA in summer 2007 and I knew that my luggage came with me on my flight from Incheon to Atlanta but got left behind in Atlanta as I continued my trip to JFK, due to some stupidity. Luckily, I got my luggage delivered to my house within a few days
ive been through heathrow many times, never had any problems like this. Obviously you booked to travel at a stupid time of year. Anyone who has used heathrow a lot knows just how busy it gets since it is the world hub of airtravel and we avoid the airport during certain weeks.
i went thru charles de gaulle airport in paris before for transit and it was like this also and i missed my flight and lost my luggage around christmas 2006. so all major airports are kinda like this at busy periods but they shud be more organised and have more staff.

oh my, I went also via Heathrow only 2 weeks before that video and everything went smooth and fast...
blame it to whoever decided not to hire more personnel... it's happening in all airports roudn the world, I'm an airport worker myself and we have the same problem, 1 person making the work of 3 at the same time
have u ever heard of an airport called prestwick intl. airport in scotland well if you have you will also know that it only has 1 terminal but it is huge. but in the summer it is terribly busy
for the lack of air traffic that comes in it is just terrible.Anyway 8899 people with no bags omg.
heathrow is a disgrace. why on earth anyone from europe CHOOSES to come VIA LHR is beyond me... BAA run shopping malls with places for planes to park too.
Seems like Heathrow is either the only airport that those passengers know in London area, or Heathrow is the cheapest choice for their itinerary. I'm glad that I know at least 4 airports in London, but it's surprising that many people only know Heathrow. I came to London in 2002 by flying to Paris, touring Paris, and taking the train called Eurostar to London (and trains are great for travel within Europe). I went to 4 more countries after London.
this is so ridiculous they should hire more staff at Christmas, summer holidays and so on. I agree with you about staying away from Heathrow but most of the major flights in the UK go from there so there isn't much you can do.
im british and fortunately live nowhere near heathrow. i would not go anywhere near there. i have never been but i would rather transfer to get to my destination than go non stop through heathrow even if it cost more. lets hope T5 can change things around
Sometimes, plane can be better than train, train can be better. But in London, it's best to go to Gatwick or fly to Paris to take the Eurostar train to London.
Any flight that requires going through any sort of mess like that is not worth taking. Even if it's faster in the end. You can never be sure of that anyway. There are just too many flights that are delayed or canceled for too many reasons. Trains are reliable in most places. Particularly in Europe and the Northeast US.
Agree. But if people want to save time, they want to fly, and the best way to fly is to fly from smaller airports. When I went to Europe, I flew to Paris and stayed there for two nights then took the Eurostar to London. Then I went back to Paris then took several trains in Switzerland and then went to Germany and ended the trip in Frankfurt. Then I took a short flight to Amsterdam and then went back home.
People want to save time, but if someone is going say from Boston to Philadelphia or Washington, DC, people should really consider taking the train over flying. It could be slower versus flying but flying has too many unknowns and variables that could happen (and happen a lot). Another thing is airports are usually on the outskirts of town requiring people to drive or take more public transit in order to get where they're going (read part 2 of the comment)
The train is usually reliable, getting you to where you're going on time (not always but more so than the planes) plus the stations are usually in the center of town.
Agree. Even if people take the plane, it's best to take the train to/from the airports, like there is easy access from Newark Liberty International Airport to New York Penn Station by either Amtrak or NJTransit. If I were to be the one choosing the trip, I would go by whatever is cheaper.
During the Europe trip I mentioned above, my dad terminated his trip after one week (so that he can get back to work) and left us in London, and he took the London Underground's Piccadilly Line to Heathrow. And he says that Heathrow doesn't have that long line. Maybe it was because they did not ban liquids that time. (I get VERY ANNOYED when I click on "Post Comment" and see that I can't have more than 500 characters)
Today was a terrible day. Today, I got partially restricted from my best friend Melanie. I was only allowed to say hi to her, and that was it! I really miss her......And last week, I auditioned for jazz band and discovered today that I didn't get in! Doesn't sound as worse as this line, huh? ACTUALLY, THE NIGHTMARE I HAD TODAY THAT I MENTIONED BEFORE IS ACTUALLY LIKE TEN TIMES WORSE THAN THIS RIDICULOUS LINE AT HEATHROW!!! THIS IS A TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
Yes it is bad. I miss my best friend. I had great times with her. I am now only allowed to say hi to her and that is it. I feel so lonely and feel like I lost a best friend. And if I got into jazz band, then I would feel more attractive. AND THAT RIDICULOUS LINE AT HEATHROW IS ALSO VERY BAD, BUT NOT BAD AS THAT NIGHTMARE I MENTIONED BEFORE!!!
I can see why it took 3.5 hours to get to the front of it. Considering it takes almost three minutes to walk from the back to the front when playing double (triple?) speed....
That's typical Heathrow. Be thankful that it didn't diverge into 2 like this one airport queue I was in. It was really tense and awkward looking at the other branch and them looking at us thinking who was cutting in front of who. Queueing would have to be the most stupidly random human phenomena ever conceived, blessed are the meek who are patient and comply.
I know why there is this stupidly long line at Heathrow. Now that the liquids are stupidly banned from planes, the security has to take longer per person to check the bags and take away liquids that passengers bring. The security telling passengers to not bring liquids, is a similar situation to when I get told to stay away from my best friend Melanie. So that's why I say that THE PLAN TO BAN LIQUIDS AND MAKE LINES, IS VERY STUPID AND RIDICULOUS!!!
You only need a two pence whole in the pressurised cabine at 30,000ft and above for the plane to implode. Now two water bottles with volitile mixtures can be mixed together to make a bang. Simpler then a bomb and you only need a enough to make a small hole. So banning liquids for the time being until the newest scanning machines gets complete is nessecary.
There should be a solution to this. Passengers might be thirsty if they can't bring water. It's just like I will be lonely if I can't be with my best friend Melanie. Volitile mixtures, for safety reasons, can be banned, BUT NOT BOTTLED WATER!!!
Water is served in stores in the airport and on the aircraft.
Volitile mixtures used are see threw so if you want to take water on; then lines will be longer as all water will be tested. But that wont happen because most volitile liquids are see threw but are heavier then water. So a bit of paper you can make a filter and pore it threw the filter, this will seperate the water from the substance.
Stupidly long unnescessary video about a queue, get a grip

have u ever heard of an airport called prestwick intl. airport in scotland well if you have you will also know that it only has 1 terminal but it is huge. but in the summer it is terribly busy
for the lack of air traffic that comes in it is just terrible.Anyway 8899 people with no bags omg.

holy cow!! does anyone actually make their flight???
javawhz 4 years ago
I hope so, chances are that some people might miss their flight after standing in this ridiculously long line.

heathrow is a disgrace. why on earth anyone from europe CHOOSES to come VIA LHR is beyond me... BAA run shopping malls with places for planes to park too.
davey1121 4 years ago 2
Seems like Heathrow is either the only airport that those passengers know in London area, or Heathrow is the cheapest choice for their itinerary. I'm glad that I know at least 4 airports in London, but it's surprising that many people only know Heathrow. I came to London in 2002 by flying to Paris, touring Paris, and taking the train called Eurostar to London (and trains are great for travel within Europe). I went to 4 more countries after London.
NHRHS2010 3 years ago
this is so ridiculous they should hire more staff at Christmas, summer holidays and so on. I agree with you about staying away from Heathrow but most of the major flights in the UK go from there so there isn't much you can do.

If I were to fly to London, I would go to Gatwick.

Unless you're doing a trans-atlantic trip, please, by all means save yourself the trouble and TAKE THE TRAIN!!!!!!!
murjax 4 years ago 2
Sometimes, plane can be better than train, train can be better. But in London, it's best to go to Gatwick or fly to Paris to take the Eurostar train to London.
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
Any flight that requires going through any sort of mess like that is not worth taking. Even if it's faster in the end. You can never be sure of that anyway. There are just too many flights that are delayed or canceled for too many reasons. Trains are reliable in most places. Particularly in Europe and the Northeast US.
murjax 4 years ago
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
People want to save time, but if someone is going say from Boston to Philadelphia or Washington, DC, people should really consider taking the train over flying. It could be slower versus flying but flying has too many unknowns and variables that could happen (and happen a lot). Another thing is airports are usually on the outskirts of town requiring people to drive or take more public transit in order to get where they're going (read part 2 of the comment)
murjax 4 years ago
The train is usually reliable, getting you to where you're going on time (not always but more so than the planes) plus the stations are usually in the center of town.
murjax 4 years ago
Agree. Even if people take the plane, it's best to take the train to/from the airports, like there is easy access from Newark Liberty International Airport to New York Penn Station by either Amtrak or NJTransit. If I were to be the one choosing the trip, I would go by whatever is cheaper.
NHRHS2010 4 years ago

NHRHS2010 4 years ago
Wow, that's pretty bad. That's life though.
murjax 4 years ago 3
Yes it is bad. I miss my best friend. I had great times with her. I am now only allowed to say hi to her and that is it. I feel so lonely and feel like I lost a best friend. And if I got into jazz band, then I would feel more attractive. AND THAT RIDICULOUS LINE AT HEATHROW IS ALSO VERY BAD, BUT NOT BAD AS THAT NIGHTMARE I MENTIONED BEFORE!!!
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
In fact, I'm glad that the jazz music is used here as the background music of this video about this long line.
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
I'm flying every week to and from this airport and i can tell you that on all aspects it is the WORSE in the world !!!!!!
stephstew 4 years ago
I can see why it took 3.5 hours to get to the front of it. Considering it takes almost three minutes to walk from the back to the front when playing double (triple?) speed....
Antonz4 4 years ago
Such queues are the result of en exact timing made by the ground administration. Good thing that you was able to record and publish it.
WolYou 4 years ago
i was coming back from corfu when this was happening. luckily we landed at gatwick where the queues werent bad.
liamreid123 4 years ago
That's typical Heathrow. Be thankful that it didn't diverge into 2 like this one airport queue I was in. It was really tense and awkward looking at the other branch and them looking at us thinking who was cutting in front of who. Queueing would have to be the most stupidly random human phenomena ever conceived, blessed are the meek who are patient and comply.
texantom56 4 years ago 2
I know why there is this stupidly long line at Heathrow. Now that the liquids are stupidly banned from planes, the security has to take longer per person to check the bags and take away liquids that passengers bring. The security telling passengers to not bring liquids, is a similar situation to when I get told to stay away from my best friend Melanie. So that's why I say that THE PLAN TO BAN LIQUIDS AND MAKE LINES, IS VERY STUPID AND RIDICULOUS!!!
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
You only need a two pence whole in the pressurised cabine at 30,000ft and above for the plane to implode. Now two water bottles with volitile mixtures can be mixed together to make a bang. Simpler then a bomb and you only need a enough to make a small hole. So banning liquids for the time being until the newest scanning machines gets complete is nessecary.
randomusernamemygod 4 years ago
There should be a solution to this. Passengers might be thirsty if they can't bring water. It's just like I will be lonely if I can't be with my best friend Melanie. Volitile mixtures, for safety reasons, can be banned, BUT NOT BOTTLED WATER!!!
NHRHS2010 4 years ago
Water is served in stores in the airport and on the aircraft.
Volitile mixtures used are see threw so if you want to take water on; then lines will be longer as all water will be tested. But that wont happen because most volitile liquids are see threw but are heavier then water. So a bit of paper you can make a filter and pore it threw the filter, this will seperate the water from the substance.

Solution: Holiday in the country. But wow, long...it hardly seems worth it if you're queueing for that long.
