Yes. Flushing fish is bad for the environment. It's better to bury them in the ground like you would other animals. Then they can decompose and turn into plant food.

i also buried my two bettas who went to heaven long ago. You shouldn't ever flush them down the toilet bowl,it's inhumane and disrespectful.. Rest In Peace,Pinky...maybe he might be playing with my two other bettas too :)

how is it inhumane if their already dead?? they wont feel it.. plus sometimes if you burry things (fish, cats, etc) other animals will just dig them up and run off with them..

but yeah i was sad when my 1st betta started to die. i didn't know they only live a few years. mine actually lived a good ammount of time.

but people please don't keep bettas without heaters!!! it makes them unhealthy to always suffer from fluctuation. it's hard to find a room that's stable through all 4 seasons.

Aww, Its very nice of you to bury Pinky. I burried my fishes when I was little, I remeber when my very first fishy Sally (a gold fish who was also my first pet) died :( I cried non stop :'( We burried her in our backyard and put alittle popcicle stick cross to mark her grave. I dont know were it is anymore, we had construction in our backyard.

We used to have four Guinea Pigs and when they died we buried in the backyard by the fence. We wrote their names on it above their graves in sharpie but it's long gone now. I don't even remember the order we buried them (It could have been different than the order in which they died).

I gave a funeral for my first fish... very depressing... after that, the 5 other fishes that I had, I had to flush them... the area that I live has too many dogs and cats... my bettas are bound to be dug up :(... rip pinky

thats an honorable thing for u to bury a fish u very much cared for when others would just carelessly flush theirs down a toilet. :( Pinky deserves all the respect he can get! He's lucky he had a great owner (you)

Thank you. I always thought it was mean to flush a fish down the toilet. They go to a water treatment plant of something and their bodies die from chemicals. Burying him seemed more natural. I actually had a friend who made a tiny raft and put her fish on it in a pond. She then added dry leaves and lit it creating a tiny pyre.

I actually got him from Walmart. They had good Bettas when I went (I usually see sickly ones). It was either Pinky, a beautiful deep red one, or a blue green. All of them looked healthy and happy but I thought Pinky was unique so I got him.
