It has been said before: Alpha Protocol is the best bet on a RPG that makes you influence the story in almost all aspect. However, the gameplay is not the strongest and that may turn off many people. The patches solve a lot of the bugs but it still is slightly weaker when comparing to other RPGs.

This game, was... well, great in concept. It's got a similar control system of mass effect 1, which I enjoyed, and attempts to put the play style into a stealth/spy RPG. Ambitious.

Somewhat too ambitious, because, yes, it IS buggy. However, the story is good, and you can have a lot of fun with it as long as you're willing to forgive the first level (seriously Obsidian, you never design good first levels). The music is good, great in fact, and the characters fun and memorable (Albatross!)

Game is really good, but I dont understand some things... If I'm trying to pick a lock, why is it timed??? And why it sounds the alarm, when I'm not succesful?? Same with safes... thats just plain stupid :D

I got this for £1.50 from Steam, and it's pretty good. It's kind of like Mass Effect in a way.

i play both Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol. In my opinion both games are masterpiece. Dont need to compare. Most important point in this games that their plot sets in modern times or in future times so its something more than a sword spell stuff which i really get bored.

I really think this is a fantastic RPG, but the shooting completely falls flat and the cover-based system that the stealth relies on is either unreliable or an instant stealth button.

Some of the animations are the most well-captured, but others are just plain shoddy.

I enjoyed the hell out of this game, but I simply can't overlook it's flaws to call it RPG of the year! If it had, say a year's more polish, it could very well have been it for me.

Soundtrack is fun, though. =)

You have to try this game, people who beat it start to finish actually enjoyed it a lot, i think people who reviewed this game rushed and expected a top budget game. oh and most people played this game like a typical third person which its not.

It's a fantastic game, and if you see it all the way through, it has one of the best and most versatile plots of any game out there (versatile meaning, your choices have actually significant impacts throughout the story). Unfortunately, the top-class story is embedded in second-rate gameplay. While I love the game, I can understand reviewers' frustration at it - the AI alone is outclassed by games a decade old.

Reviewers panned it because of the learning curve was made obvious from the 'buggy' interface. It basically one-ups Deus Ex but it came at the price of harder difficulty. (outside Deus Ex being 2 hit kills in realistic difficulty)

Obsidian always generates exceptional writing, and this is no exception. The perfectionist in me cries about how a 100% dossier run seems impossible, or the lack of a conventional New Game + mechanic (veteran doesn't count >:| ), but it's assuaged by the chance to play 'Tenchu with guns and good plot'.

Very strange to see this game got panned in the gaming press, maybe Sega didn't pay people enough money?? Especially when you see Dragon Age 2 which was a sequel to a fantastic game getting reviews, and it was objectively worse than AP with a lot more flaws - and AP wasn't even a sequel.

I swear it was cause of people playing it like it was god damn CoD and being "WTF HE DIDN'T DIE TO A GUNSHOT"

@AresBG In general id say to each its own, mass effect is just epic the way it is, besides its science fiction, not everybody is supposed to like sicence fiction, this AP game for example really bored me ( just my opinion) because i dont like agent spy shit in general still i gave this game a try. lol at * how a game like me2'' well its probably because the majority liked the way of me2 better than the way AP is.

@Sephirothblaze OGG is an audio file format prefered in video games since it can support high quality @ small size. You will havto simply convert it into either mp3 or aac to play it on ur ipod.

I like the way they handled the music in this game. Going into game design, the devs focused on emulating the near superhuman abilities of the three great spy archetypes: James Bond, Jason Bourne, and Jack Bauer. The same approach is evident in the music; a mix of heavy industrial beats, overblown orchestra, and vicious techno to punctuate the three different feels they wanted to focus on in all aspects of the game.

For anyone who decides not to play this due to reviews saying its buggy and lousy, I strongly suggest you try it out for yourself.

I play plenty of games; including Mass Effect and Splinter Cell.

This game has elements from both, albeit not in the same league, it is still a very good game with a pretty awesome plot.

And it is the only RPG based on the modern times.

Every decision you make in this game will affect practically everything else in the game, a lot more then it would in ME.

Game is fucking awsome, but don't expect a shooter, it's and RPG and it rocks in those elements, as i said action elements are worse, i would give it a 8.5 or so.

I've read complains about textures loading time, animations... graphic aspects mostly,

the game has a simple way to go with graphics, (reminds me of PS2 graphics) and this is not accepted in next-gen games for reviewers. Animations aren't so bad so if I were you I would give it a try. (I've done a preorder and I'm proud of it.)

@TrueShadowJS It got a 6.7 i think. Its not low, just average. You really should think of 5 as being medium as...well, on a scale of 10, it makes sense!

This game is published by Sega, which means that the development team's budget had been pulled and they were given a deadline. in turn this means that the game is clearly not finished the way the developers wanted.

Aside from this I can tell you that I've been playing it for a few days now and it's quite fun. Yes it has glitches and bugs. But games that have 100 million dollar budgets have glitches too it really shouldn't matter. Don't let sites tell you what your opinion is.
