The difference really goes back to the fundamental principles of the two instruments. A euphonium is conical bore and a baritone is cylindrical bore. Either one can be 3-4 (or more) valve - every brass instrument has it's flaws in design. The only perfect brass instrument would be a valve for every pitch.
@Philbatrom lol posting that on a euphonium duet video lol! i donno i like trombone but its way too easy and the slide is inaccurate i mean its so much easier to be out of tune.. i like it but euphonium is a blessing!
it could be a band piece with solo euphonium rather than solo euphonium with band.......which means that the splits would be written in, and you can hear it a lot of the times and sometimes they play in octaves
I thought this piece was great!!! ... We have five euphs in our concert band, and plenty more coming up through the juniors after us. And still we get called mini-tubas and baritones.... IGNORANCE!!!!!!
The euphonium's a cousin of the baritone, but it's bigger, with a larger bell and bore, and has a broader sound. Baritones have three valves, but euphs can have three or four (the fourth helps to compensate for a natural fault in the instrument's harmonics). Instrument manufacturers mixed the names up (calling their better models euphoniums) and that helped to confuse things a lot.
I just went to china 2007 with my marching band-Barron collier high school, it was awesome. We didnt go to Hong Kong though, we went mostly to Bejieng and wow you guys sound GREAT!!!!!Cool run too
We had three last year, would have had four but one senior wanted to play trombone...the euphonium is so neglected eh?..Oh well.. less competition on those all state auditions lol.
lucky. i would wanted that for me. i get to learn to play more better than to learn to play with someone. also get more better as an individual in sight reading.

you ruined a really good piece to make an american-ified version of a wonderful euphonium solo "grandfather's clock". i can assure you, the british version is better. If you would like a listen then get hold of me!
This duet was written by the British Salvation Army composer Norman Bearcroft, I believe during his stead as the Canadian Staff Band master - in all likelihood it was written for Curtis Metcalf and Major Bill Brown. And this is a GREAT duet! The best recording that exists is the London Citadel Band accompanying Robert and Nick Childs on "The Song of the Brother" CD (I believe which is now sold out) back in 1994.
Me too! I hate it when people think that the baritone and euphonium are the same thing. The word itself sounds like something that slips out of the rectal cuttage. I used to play the baritone, but thankfully for my seventeenth birthday, I got a silver euphonium...I cried.
Anyway, back to the video: this was very good. I can see myself playing this with the other euphoniumist at school, but he's probably not good enough.
This is Timepiece, written by Norman Bearcroft and re-arranged later (to make it readable) by Peter Graham. And there is no such thing as a euphonium in C...there used to be "high pitched" instruments, but they were all like that and about 98% of them were converted to low pitch a looooong time ago.
I am also a euphonium player, and ppl always ask me why i play such a wierd instrument and not something like a trombone or a trumpet, and i tell them, because the euphonium is so unique and produces such a beautiful sound that i have just completely fallen in love with it
I love my euphonium....and I must admit that I do get tired of explaining what a Euphonium is...and NO a Baritone and a Euphonium are NOT THE SAME!..I hate that assumption.
Cool, i like this song, the chords are cool, the euphonium needs to be more publicized, i hate explaining to people when they ask what i play what a euphonium is.. sigh
You play Euphonium in C or in Bb. Euphonium in C sounds as a horn in high notes, you need a Compensating System Euphonium in Bb, and you will get a real Euphonium Sound.
ALL EUPHOINUMS ARE BEST!!!!

@ral1988
The trombone, i would say, is perfect in design.
Also, many people say that it mimics the human voice..
it also has a range in every register..
Philbatrom 1 year ago
@Philbatrom For pitch I would agree. In other aspects I would say there are inherited disadvantages.

@Philbatrom the euph is meant to imitate a cello.
marktremontirules1 9 months ago
@marktremontirules1 I'd think that euphonium is its own breed a combo of F horn, Tuba, T-bone

Baritones have 3, Euphs 3 or 4 valves... yes, of course, very true, except for those Baritones with FOUR valves! ;-)

bar 7 & 8 are pretty out of time there, section F is pretty rough. Great work from n N through to P.
But please tell me what was this that ending, It stuffed the whole piece up for me. Why did you play what was written??

I look forward your rendition.

I don't mind explaining, but it gets difficult if it's someone who doesn't even know what a Tuba is.
