inagabs you are sadly mistaken with this thought process. MOTHER Nature has proven time and time again that she has ultimate domain on what is "decided" for life here on Earth! Your mindset is "God" like and quite foolish in my opinion. Man's greed will be humanity's downfall! Man is turning the Garden of Eden into HELL!
We realize this slaughter is very difficult to watch and can make folks angry. Our commenting policy prohibits profanity and advocating violence, though. Feel free to see our policy on the main channel page and repost a family-friendly version of your comments.
Is there another way of immediate action against this slaughter besides donations? Because I really don't have money to donate. I'm sorry. Isn' there another way?
@Sorvos There are certainly ways you can help, and we appreciate your concern for the seals! There are many ways you can get involved -- for example, you can pledge to boycott Canadian seafood, or send PM Harper an email to tell him to call off the slaughter. For more ways, visit our website (it won't let me post a link) You can also take action on our Facebook page.
Thank you for your support, the seals need your help!
@Sorvos YouTube is having an issue with letting us post links, so if you could send us a message in our inbox, I can send you the links to ways you can get involved (without donating) or email us at info at hsi dot org. Thanks!
I am horrified at the fact that it still goes on - however small in number - we don't tolerate the MURDER of living creAtures - who are basking in the "god given to us all" sunlight in their own back garden- where are the police sirens to drag these monsters of cruelty in to throw them to their like in the jails...?¿? a weeping Jennifer
Polling has consistently shown that the majority of Canadians want the hunt ended for good, and don’t want the federal government to use millions of their tax dollars each year to sustain this cruel, outdated industry. Without government subsidies, the commercial hunt would have ended years ago.
We’re working to end the seal slaughter and to support Canada’s Atlantic fishing communities by promoting a federal buyout of the industry that would compensate sealers for their licenses and invest in economic alternatives.
@TomSamulak We propose a federal buyout of the sealing licenses. More than 50 percent of sealers in Newfoundland with an opinion already favor this alernative bit.ly slash gegR93
The seal slaughter targets seal pups – as young as 12 days of age – for their fur. Independent veterinaries tell us the killing is inherently inhumane. We have documented countless instances of cruelty over many years.
I understand it's a job and people need money to eat. Just get a new job! I know it's harder than it sounds, trust me, I've been looking for a job for over a year now. Go on EI, go on welfare. I would not resort to killing defenceless baby animals. It's disgusting. I believe the only type of person who could do that to an animal could easily move on to humans. They have no compassion for life.

Well I will tell you my store and I hope that when you here the truth and not what it portrayed to you, you can make an enlighten decision. My name is Craig Lewis, I’m from a small fishing community, 200 people, on the island of Newfoundland. This is an area that has hunted seals for century to both put food on our tables and money in your pockets. Annually income is about $15-20K, maybe a little more.
Sealing is a way of life and survival, just as the natives in the Amazon hunting monkeys for food and trade. My first seal hunt was in 2003/4 I was in a small 30 foot boat, 50 miles offshore, in open water. I was hunting with a rifle for the Hacketpick, is no longer used for killing seal. (It is used after shooting them to make sure they are dead and do not suffer) I saw my first seal, about a football field away. I was so excite and the adrenalin was pumping through my body.
I picked up the rifle, shot and killed the seal. First shot, first kill. We started up the boat, rush over, and picked up the seal out of the water. It was laid on deck, skin took off and the heart, kidneys and liver was placed in the frying pan and ate. That is what happens on the water or on the ice flow/pans. Many men’s lives have been lost to sealing this creature.
It a crime to have Billions of dollar go to nations that starving to death, yet we can be sending seal and fish. Money does not feed a nation, food does. Just as it feeds my family the seal feeds and many other hunters families. The harvesting of seal allows us to have both have a food source, and income so that we can send our children to school and to provide to them a better means of live.
You set behind your computer and read this, judging others and not even knowing the full truth.
The life of a fisherperson is hard, harder than you can imagine, while you can go out to the store and buy fish to feed your family, the fisherperson is placed in jail for fishing out of season to get a fish for his table.
Now that the seal are harvested they will go to a plant for processing. The fat is removed by a machine that has a 12 food knife rotating at 1000mph.
Than the pelt will go to a flesher and it you are not careful there you will lose your own flesh or an arm. One all the fat is of the pelt it will go to a tumble drum and dried with sawdust for an hour. The pelt is grade and stored in a salt pickle for several months.
There it will go to a shaver and the rest of the fat is taken off. Then the pelt is processed for tanning, than sent to a designer for creating clothing.
So you can see there is a lot of work to make a fur coat and that pelt is touched by no less than 20 people. So 20 people at $10/hr and $50 dollars to the fisherperson for the pelt ($250) creates a fur coat that sells for $5,000. Don’t seem fair to me. Yet that is how you have the capital system setup to work.
So as you sit there and call me a KILLER, SHAME ON ME, AMINAL Look again at these seals. (There are not pup or babies seal for it is illegal to kill them.
Ps I don’t agree with the hurt and I have not killed a seal after my first one. I have a licence still and will go again if I need to put food on my table and or money in my child pocket to by a process lunch.
Remember, never judge another unless you know better, even than you try to educate then so that can improve. You live shelter lives, living and wanting life through your idiot boxes. (TV)

Aloha, As a vocal member of the HSUS this is the #1 cause that I give my support to. I cannot understand how these fisherman can look in the mirror at the end of the day after the murder they have just commited. These poor totally innocent seal pups don't have any way to defend themselves, It is soooo way past time to end this maddness once and for all. Please join us in this fight to help stop the seal hunts forever

How is it morally right to beat an animal to death in its own sanctuary?? These barbarians are not hunters, just murderers.

ENOUGH OF THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They keep kiling these harmless innocents.
But to tell everyone the truth the clothing companies are just as bad as these killers.
Why? Because they think as long as they get more money than what the seals were for it's all good no problem it doesn't matter aboutthe seals.

These hunters must suffer until the end of their lives. This slaughter has NO justification. I hope justice is done.
