It's pretty much impossible to lip Vision of Love. The last run is insane and would be hilarious if she attempted to lip it. Also, she's changed it up so much throughout the years it would be ridiculously obvious.
you can definitely see how she overstrained her voice, but listen to how she sings "to" from 3:15 to 3:17 Her voice didn't let up on the soft sultry stuff. Still rocked it then.
@VMARIE20 Well, Everytime I've seen her perform "Can't Let Go" and "Vanishing" in 1991, She always was very pitchy and overthetop. Check out some of those old hysterical performances of hers. I'm sure they're uploaded here on youtube. She's had her good performances too, but more pitchy/nervous ones back in the 90/91 era.

No you're right there she has been really disapointing lately. I really liked Obsessed but went off it really quickly. For all who don't know. This was 1998 right after she had come off of her 2007 world tour of "Butterfly" and her voice was shot from tour. Your voice would be a little tired to after belting it out around the world.

sry! she really doesn't. if she actually DID have an 8 octave range she would have been in the book of records instead of georgia brown. georgia brown actually does have an 8 octave range.
plus, mariah was never able to hit all notes between her whistle register and lowest notes. so i'd say there's about half an octave missing there if that makes any difference.
mariah might at one point have had a 5-6 range. now she has...well, not very much left.

I've just listened to the new one, and gotta be honest its great, sounds like it wouldnt be out of place on Music Box, song like Open Arms, Forever etc are what she is amazing at, She's had a much bigger career then Whitney and Celine i think it's fair to say, the talent is undoubtably there, maybe sometimes the material is the downfall

Her voice is actually a lot better now than the Butterfly era, in my opinion. Back then, it was not rested and it was starting to "change" so I guess she didn't know how to use it in her own advantage and kept pushing it (just like this performance).

well, actually, i think singers can maintain their voices. its just about taking time out to rest the vocal cords, and not overwork them, you know? but its kinda hard not to especially if you're trying to make an album every year, plus go on tours, plus travel here and there and everywhere around the world to the perform and do interviews. its alot to deal with, i guess.

well yeah its true that georgia brown hits a higher octave with her whistle register and its true that it is in the book of world records ...she can also do an entire song in her whistle register...trust me ive seen the video..but its also tru that her whistle still is in no comparison to mariah careys mariahs whistle is more sensual and angelic and it is also true that mariah is the number one selling female artist of all time with the number one spot for artist with most number one hits

OMFG, I get so damn frustrated because the backup singer assigned for the duo NEVER backs her properly... she always leaves mariah singing by herself, and it sounds stupid. She's supposed to be going back and forth with mariah, and fulfilling the DUO part.... instead, she does 2 riffs and thats it.... grrrrrr

For all who don't know. This was 1998 right after she had come off of her 2007 world tour of "Butterfly" and her voice was shot from tour. Your voice would be a little tired to after belting it out around the world.

guys she was smoking at her breakdown in 2001. so now she's lost 2 octaves leaving her with 6 and now she's also got nodules in her vocal chords and the doctors say if they take them out she could lose her voice foreva! IM SOOO SAD FOR MIMI! U GO MC! UR STILL THE QUEEN OF POP!

sry! she really doesn't. if she actually DID have an 8 octave range she would have been in the book of records instead of georgia brown. georgia brown actually does have an 8 octave range.
plus, mariah was never able to hit all notes between her whistle register and lowest notes. so i'd say there's about half an octave missing there if that makes any difference.
mariah might at one point have had a 5-6 range. now she has...well, not very much left.
