  • The closing ceremony was a little rough. It was nice, funny, boring in places, and generally inoffensive. I really don't see how it captured Canada at all. ;)

  • the first second i thought it was rick roll

  • Oh one more thing.. You CANNOT generalize a nation as a whole just because of a few interactions you have had with a few people who are from that country.

  • Its also sad to see many Americans say "Overly proud Canadians"... Because that is the same outlook many Canadians have on Americans. That they are "Overly-proud" and put us down. Lets stop the hate. Lets come together, we're neighbours afterall! :)

  • There is a difference between having pride for your nation and being extremely egotistical and nationalistic. There are both such great people from Canada AND America. Why does there always have to be this ongoing battle of "Who is better?". The honest answer would be neither. If one was truly better, the better one wouldnt put down the other. Yet I always see comments going back and forth.

  • we canadians are funny

  • I don't give a fuck where you're from but some people gotta chill on the internet and talk shit outside cause it fucking up your awareness.

  • Despite all our smack talk and BS-ing between us, when the chips are down Canada and the USA are two of the tightest nations on Earth. No country is universally perfect, and let's face it, both of us love to boast : )

I feel bad for people who have true animosity in their hearts directed northward or southward. If you're gonna hate, hate on someplace/people that really deserve it.

  • @superstud666

Well hey, let me tell you something pal. As long as you represent the stereotypical Canadian and I the stereotypical American, then we've cracked it. I've got your next beer.

  • @superstud666

I'm American and have been living abroad for the last decade. Everywhere I've worked (Russia, Japan, Czech Republic, Ecuador, and Korea) I have been well liked because I'm American. However, I can say most Canadians I've met along the way are extremely cocky, overt, and have a sort of "we are better than Americans" attitude. I'm wondering, are Canadians taught this sort of thing in school and at home when they're young? (serious question, no sarcasm intended)

  • @JohnQRandom A good amount of Canadians dislike Americans in general for their arrogance, stereotyping, and their actions via politics such as middle east wars, etc.

  • A good amount of Canadians are hypocrits because of their own arrogance (flags on their backpacks, constant boasting of their nation, failure to realize their own shortcomings), stereotyping, and actions via politics such as middle eastern wars etc. Also, the world got to see first hand the lengths your nation is willing to go to establish a new identity in Vancouver yesterday. So you're a 'hooligan nation" now? get a fucking life you arrogant, miserable, hypocritical piece of shit you.

  • @JohnQRandom Flags on our backbacks are pride. Americans always boast about their army being #1, their 'nukes', etc. Americans are much worse I see more Americans as assholes than Canadians especially on the internet. USA is hated more than Canada world-wide. At least we don't make up bullshit stories to go invade the middle east for oil, and now you're trying to get involved libya for their oil too.

  • Absolute bullshit. I have lived in 5 different countries over the past decade and EVERYWHERE I have been I have been well liked and respected BECAUSE I'm American. The ONLY fucking people to start shit with are overly-patriotic Canadians. As for the Libya bullshit, that is a NATO led support of the rebels, and since when is Canada not apart of NATO AND a supporter of Ghadaffi?? I love many of the Canadians I've met, but it seems it's a hit or miss sort thing, and some of you are in the dark.

  • @JohnQRandom u mad fagit???

  • @JohnQRandom hah is that why your economy sucks and you owe us money

  • @ThatRandomCodPlayer

We owe you money?? Funny considering nearly your entire economy comes from the US.

  • @JohnQRandom lol

  • @superstud666 I used to live in Canada and I saw how they treat the American teams like they were a joke and then I moved down to the US and was playing on a US team and we beat a Canadian team and while we were going through the handshake line they were calling us fat and saying we should go eat some more McDonalds. Hockey would probably get a little more popular in the states if there wasn't a bunch of Canadians telling them that they suck and shouldn't play.

  • @24xEBK

As if Candians aren't fat and don't eat McDonalds?? Wow, that's bold.

  • Wow it's really too bad that any time I go on a video about hockey or about the USA hockey team the top comment is always from a Canadian saying how they are better than the Americans.

  • @24xEBK You clearly haven't seen Americans brag, have you?

  • @cbfd234 No I have, it's just I haven't seen tons of Team Canada hockey videos with the top comment from some American saying that they are better than Canada or that Canada sucks and most Team USA videos I go on has some comment from an arrogant Canadian saying how they are the best and USA sucks. It's weird because most Canadians I know don't have a problem with America and I just don't understand how youtube attracts the arrogant Canadians and not as much the nice ones.

  • We will never forget how Canada helped us in our darkest hour and aided our mourning, stranded citizens.... thank you brothers

  • @overpatrioticcanadians, the US and Canada are close allies and friends, and here you are talking about Canada beating the US in a hockey game, give me a break.

  • Look at all you proud Canadians. Youtube really attracts dumb asses from your country. If you cocksuckers ever stop ranting about your country you would relies that the U.S. and Canada have a symbiotic relationship. Both would suffer greatly without the other. I'v never had a Canadian curse me out in person. To bad too i would enjoy kicking Canadian ass. Canada rocks BTW i dont hate.

  • FUCK U AMERICA, canada rules eh?

  • @Haydenrulez33 i hate when people distinguish the USA as america. all north america, and south america is considered America, the continent, and within it is Canada and the USA and Mexico

  • @hippytip Check WIKI before you give a geography lesson :P You had part of it correct, lol. The North America part, but if you're talking South America then you're talking about about 10 more countries. And while depending on what country you're from sometimes North America and South America is considered America, which you stated, but you still left out about 10 countries which I then suspect you were some how thinking South America was the southern half of North America...

  • no one can hate like the yanks

quess you guys have a whole lot of practice at it

  • Oh god.. Why am i reading all this raging inferiority complex comments from Canadians?? just remember the Summer games (the ones that matter on a worldwide scale) Phelps alone had more that twice the amount of golds than Canada... Seriously shut up about a stupid little hockey game

  • @BjGard dont be mad that u guys arent the best at everyhting, i mean u guys are the best cockmuchers worldwide, and now thats some thing to be proud of in yur case.

  • @BjGard

    haters be hating

  • @BjGard and Americans bragged about phelps wich is fine in my opinion the whole idea of the olympics is not only world unity and competition but who gets bragging rights so until the next olympics where another country kicks ass at it Canadians get to brag

  • @BjGard go suck a dick you little bitch

  • @BjGard its funny because americans are infinately more cocky about almost everything, but as soon as canada beats you in something you get all defensive

  • i thought it was a great olympics (big negative was the luge accident-unsafe track). the hockey ending was great, i wish staal had scored the goal instead of Crosby- b/c im a hurricane fan and i dislike the whiner. Ohh we'll get you guys in basketball 10 out of 10 times, remember that canada. :D

  • @gtcbm canadians dont really care about basketball.... we invented it, but we just dont care about it.

  • @gtcbm Who the hell cares about b ball,? We invented it but could careless about it LMFAO!

  • Oh my gosh, This hatred between Canada and America needs to stop!

Canada and USA are two great countries! America didn't do anything bad to Canada and Canada didnt do anything bad to America in like decades.

  • @guy2008rules you would be suprised. all it takes is one group to bad mouth the other.... i hate americans..... not all.... just the stupid ignorant ones. the ones i see a lot of. talked to a lot of good ones too, but teh stupid ones stand out more.

  • Actually, designation has no value. The person is important, not the designation.

    Word to Life

  • 1ST THE HUMANITY

    Y DIDNT LEARN ANYTHING 4 GREECE 2004?

4000 YEARS HISTORY DONT FUCK EVERYTHING

  • @schs1977 Typical American comment while being the typical american who does not know shit about hockey. Lets see, The Stanley Cup Champs Chicago Blackhawks, do you even realise 16 of the 23 players who played for Chicago were Canadian. And the Philly Flyers 14 out of 22 players who played were Canadian. So if you do the Math, which I know for American is pretty difficult: 14+16=30/45 meaning 67% of all the players in the Stnaley Cup Final were Canadian. So every year the Stanley Cup is OURS!

  • i hope russia is ready for the winter games, as in china, with muslim chechnya extremists, china had uyghur separatists. so good luck and god bless you russia!

  • Well done to Vancouver! Ye did a great job! and the mime artist was so simple but genius!

  • thats being canadian, making jokes of our mistakes =)

  • Nickelback Perfomed They Are Awesome (: My Fave Thing About Canada Besides Avril Lavinge :L xx

  • @rhondav28 I agree with you 100% we got some insanely great singers in Canada.

  • @rhondav28 please tell me you are being sarcastic

  • For a second, at the starting I thought I was going to be Rick Rolled xD

  • i live about 15 minutes away and even i watched this on TV instead of going there lol

why spend thousand of dollars when u can just record it on TV and skip the french speaking parts and the parts you dont like(opera and that wierd kid flying around in the grass)!!!

  • The official languages of the Olympic movement are French and English and then those two and the language(s) of the host city of are the languages of any particular Olympic Games.

  • That movie suckered you too huh?The world will end when God says its time not before

  • search:SEATAC PEEWEES

  • @jackavlanche lol

  • Do Canadians know who they are? If they didn't before the games they certainly know now! Canadians like their OPTIONS!!!

  • Leave it to Canada to make a joke out of a mistake, huh? It's going to be tough for anyone to match our amazing atmosphere! And still can't believe we got so many golds! We sure showed them whose game it was :)

  • yeah baby!

  • When Catriona "lit" the flame, she didn't actually light it. A flare of fire came from the bottom of the channel and that's what lit the flame and then she put her torch onto it. It was all very orchestrated and contrived and just a split second after the flare of fire came out. I was disappointed because it was fake. I guess it's not that important.

  • like you could do any better!

  • Gawd how hateful are you? Get a life, I was stating a fact.

  • I think we all noticed that too but chose to ignore it so as not to rain on that beautiful ceremonial moment.

  • You ever stick a match near a lit barbeque? Flammable gas is volatile and ignites easily.

  • It's going to be hard to match the fun and friendly atmosphere of the Vancouver Olympics.

Usually the Summer Olympics are associated with more partying and fun, but many people have commented thatthe Vancouver Olympics were the first Winter Olympics whose atmosphere and festivity matched those of the Summer Olympics.

  • Yeah, good point about the music being geared towards the Olympics.

  • I enjoyed these Olympic games as much as all the others. USA got record most medals, Canada got record most golds.

For the people who need to make inappropriate comments. Seriously, grow up. The point of the Olympics is not just for competition but to also bringing all the people of the world together.

In regards to the video; I liked the mime. It was very clever. Can't wait till Sochi 2014!

  • The mime was very funny

  • @TVslasher, i can tell your an american,, probably the same person that i ran into on vacation in europe wearing a canadian flag on your back pack cause you didnt want people to know you were an america... I love the US half my family is there, and although I would not want to live there, educate yourself,, the only thing wrong with CANADA is that we share a border with you....

  • Comment removed

  • I don't really get the whole America-Canada-hatred going on here.

We both performed spectacularly at the Olympics, securing the most medals overall (US) and the most gold medals awarded in any olympic games.

What's there to be all butthurt over?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm with you tinkerpanda. I thought we had a nice discussion going, suddenly people wanted to weigh in with who's beating up on whom. And do any of you know how to spell "know"?? It isn't "no". OK, a shortcut but there are so many other typos that I think not.

Anyway, yes Neil's song is about a car but there's a metaphor there, like Moby Dick isn't about a whale.

And if anyone was left out of the celebrations it was the Asians, 40% of Vancouver's population.

    vive Quebec, BTW

  • The only people who would have felt left out because of the 'Asians' are people who give too much of a shit about a dated concept called "race within the Human species."

  • criss, jaime ben les canadiens

  • Lets not pick on each other to much, we both have beautthe only big ful and great countries. The only big differance is Canada knows and understand the USA some what. The only thing Americans no about Canada is that it a big frozen waste land year round. They wont no our priministers name or the name of Canadas capital city or what province it's in. They may no B.C. now but I bet they don't no the province to the east of them. 90% of Canadian kids in grade 12 can find 50 states on a blanck map.

  • The kids in North Dakota don't no the name of the province above them. i no alot of this because most of my relatives are Americans . Both my grand fathers imagrated to Canada in the late 1800's with the rest of the families staying in the US. So I have lots of relatives. They're all quite smart in math science english and so on. but geography sucks, some of the , grade 8&9 couldn't find their state on a blank map thats sad.

  • Canada Kik but once again :) AHAHAHA SILLY AMERICANS!!

  • 2010 winter olympics. Another reason Canada kicks America's ass.

  • this olympic's will be remembered as Canadian kicking American ass!!!!

  • @dtrimarchi88 And how about that 2010 Stanley Cup! Two American teams in the finals and NO Canadian teams to be seen!

  • @schs1977 Do you not realize that the rosters of both the Flyers and the Blackhawks were dominated by Canadians? Same can be said for most past "American" cup winning teams as well. Teams in the NHL are made up of players from different countries so a Canadian-based team not winning the cup is not a reflection of Canada's talent in hockey. So what was your point exactly?

  • @schs1977 Well to be fair two "American" teams had alot of Canadian players. I'm not trying to start anything, and I apologize for the comments that other Canadians are making ( though you should know they're mostly kidding, we don't hate America )

Most Canadian Hockey teams have had all our players taken away >=( .

Canadians and Americans will always be partners in trade, brothers in arms, and friends.

  • @paladin12122 - No problem. I am an American living in Australia. So I get to see VERY little hockey! BTW - my favorite player of all times in Wayne Gretzky. Also, I have been a CFL fan for year. I loved when the CFL had American teams. Canada and America are probably more alike than any other 2 nations. As my maternal grandfather, who left England for Nova Scotia, then to the US, used to say - "Canada and American - children of a common Mother"

  • @schs1977 Roberto Luongo =), and I wish the CFL was in the NFL ( if you know what I mean). By the way, I love that saying! Brothers might get into arguments and quarrels but they always stick together. Anyways, have a good one!

  • @paladin12122 - I think the way y'all (even though I am living in Perth, Australia, Iam from the Southern US) handeled the lighting of the torch was great! And the way you opened the Closing ceremonies was PRICELESS!! You got to laugh! I know what you mean about the CFL & NFL. That would be great!

  • @dtrimarchi88 I apologize to Americans for this kind of crude comment by Canadians. It's childish and unwarranted.

  • @dtrimarchi88 I sincerely hope not. America won more medals and technically "beat" Canada. Our hockey teams prevailed - the men's by the narrowest of margins - and we surprised ourselves with a record gold medal tally no one expected. I don't consider that to be "kicking American ass" at all, and don't think for a moment that the majority of Canadians feel that way. We are, I hope, more mature than that.

  • @NVanWendy Our Hockey team won, and that's all that counts. The world expects America to win - with it having such a large population of athletes, but Canada had never won a Gold medal on home soil and to make a record of Gold medals at any Winter Olympics, just shows how great we really are. But, who's keeping score eh?

  • @dtrimarchi88

    hell yeah

  • @dtrimarchi88 ......Canawho? lol

  • @singer34109

    U

    Stupid

    Ass

  • @daydaviddunn What are you talking "ahboot"? lol

  • Kos ruined everything! nuf said

  • Something tells me you just watched the opening ceremony and decided the lock yourself in a room for the reminder of the games...

  • the whole thing was quite embarrassing, but still a little better than atlanta 96 or calgary 88.

  • You did not even turn on the TV to find out about the medals Canada had won? You should have. And how they poked fun at it in the closing ceremony. Those compensated for any technical mishap during the opening. The level of pride in this nation was unseen. I'm sure many of them can overlook the 4th pillar failure and call the XXI Winter Games one where we got the most golds...

  • good -record breaking gold won by a nation -a number of firsts. first time an opening ceremony take place indoors, first time canada wins ice dance, ... -canadian's passion -canada beat us in hockey men and women bad (weather aside) -failed cauldron -someone died (not the organizers fault) -failed ice making machine -failed electrical at cyprus -failed transportation to cyprus -CTV sucks -poorly trained volunteers -general confusion and communication break down among organizers and officials
  • bad

    -avril lavigne

    -simple plan

    -hedley

  • nickelback

  • And what's that supposed to prove? In these Olympics, the majority of people are biased towards things that were good. It was an appropriate time to be optimistic about it. Many choose to be. And those many will stay optimistic about the XXI Winter Olympics. Hence, the passion seen.

  • these games are below acceptable expectations.

  • Those aren't words of the IOC, or any other credible source. Rather the opinion of a individual who cannot overlook minor issues.

Fact is: Passion/Happy fans > Technical mishaps.

  • not my words either. the words of international media minus unreasonable bashing.

  • Atlanta, maybe. Calgary are you kidding me ? The IOC chairman called them the best Winter Olympics of all time. It was the first modern Olympics to not run a debt and to actually make money.

There was not as much flash and dash but 'nothing' went wrong. All events went off perfectly and no one was hurt. True the opening and closing ceremonies were not much more than the half-time show at a college football game BUT nothing went wrong...

You were not in Calgary in 88 to say that.

  • maybe it's unfair to count calgary 88 and seoul 88, i saw calgary and it wasn't that great.

  • just to pipe in on the whole english/french debate. The Olympics are NOT awarded to a country, they are awarded to a city!! Quebec has jack to say about what languages should be used or who should be represented. The 21st Winter Olympics were hosted by Vancouver/Whistler, NOT Canada/Quebec. There was as much french as in any other NON French speaking city anywhere in the world. The official languages of Canada have NOTHING to do with what language the games are presented in. And, I am Canadian.

  • @MrRoque: french and english are the official languages of the olympic games. has nothing to do with where the ceremonies are held. Its I.O.C. rules that say french and english must be used in the ceremonies. In fact, should a descrepency arise in translations of olympic publicaions, the FRENCH text prevails.

  • if you had been paying attn. The discussion wasn't about IF french and english should be used during the games, but that QUEBEC was bitching about the LACK of french being used. They weren't complaining becuz they gave a rats ass about the IOC. They're complaining to 'highlight' their self serving interests. My comment wasn't about whether french should used at all, but that the games were awarded TO Vancouver and that Quebec's interest in promoting 'their' language had NO bearing on the games.

  • Comment removed

  • @unwinsis its that kind of thinking, that keeps Canada 'seperated'. It was Canadians that won the medals, not a particular province's residence. And exactly how did Vanoc 'ignore' Quebec's contribution? Every medalist was awarded a medal, they were acknowledged by the media and their 'home towns' were mentioned, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER MEDALIST FROM EVERY OTHER PROVINCE. I don't remember the Montreal games giving MORE recognition to other provinces...Odd how that works. Hey, look over here, its PQ

  • It's the NOC who chooses the city to REPRESENT THE NATION in the bid phase, and submits that city to the IOC. The NOC maintains joint responsibility throughout the games. Quebec's athletes helped haul in half our total medals won, including 7 gold and the first gold ever on Canadian soil. By under-representing Quebec's importance to these games, and this country, Canada's NOC has failed to meet it's principle mission to "develop, promote and protect the Olympic Movement in Canada"

  • Definitely not a French Canadian. French is indeed an international language. But that's not where I was going, rather to say that there's a protocol in the Olympics that is independent of the Canadian debate about recognition and I don't think there's an intention to make preferences one way or the other. Look at the schaudenfreude at the closing, it was good, it didn't find favorites.

  • You know, I'm just a dumb American, can't play hockey much and don't know much about Canada's politics. But debates about who had what percentage of what don't mean a whole lot to me, either here or in Canada. From the outsider's view the presentation was OK, though the beaver balloons and walkabout canoes were pretty hokey and the miniskirted "mounties" ?, well, whatever. But DO NOT be apologizing :-)

  • I think it was meant to be a quite hokey, in a funny way. Just poking fun at what people might think when they hear Canada.

  • English and French have been the "official" langauges of the Olympics since 1904. All the ponderous speechifying is made in those languages and the language of the host country. Sorry BC'ers & Quebequois it really isn't about either of you. As a US'er living close to Vancouver I'll say the games were nicely fitted to the Northwest/Southwest, soft snow and fog and warm air and all. And Neil Young singing about looking back from the future to the accomplishments of today was a sweet thing indeed.

  • you do realize that song by neil young is actually about a car.... hahahahha no joke

  • actually it's about a dead horse

  • Literally, of course it's about a car. The thing about art though, is that everyone can find different meaning it.

  • i think the closing ceremony was a fail. I mean i'm Canadian and i understand that they were trying to make fun of Canadian stereotypes but thats like adding fuel to the fire, Stephen Colbert had a hay day on that shit taking it completely out of context. And then Catherine Ohara says we apologize 10x a day and then send in Nickleback now i find myself apologizing for them more than anything. What about some Kardinal Offishall or Drake or Rush or anybody but them fuck

  • french is an international language. lol And if Canada went to consider itself bilingual they should include both language.

  • The closing ceremony was like if all things canada were thrown in a small box and were fighting a deathmatch trying to outdo one another.. Maybe I just dont understand canadian humor, It was good, but It got a little too canadian for me. Yet the greatest thing about the closing was WILLIAM SHATNER!!

  • That closing ceremony was the worst I've ever seen, I mean... I will never get those three hours back...

  • Actually, that is incorrect. The official language in the Olympics is French. It always has been. It had nothing to do with Canada. Just the way things have been for years. :)

  • that's right. Most of the time, at the ceremonies, there are three languages. In Salt Lake city, since English is the de facto "official" language of the United States, only English and French were spoken at the ceremonies. In Athens back in 2004, they spoke Greek, English, and French.

Torino had Italian, French, and English,

    Even Beijing was tri-lingual

Vancouver took place in BC, which is officially English-speaking, but we're used to some degree of French language, living in Canada.

  • Exactly! So they weren't "catering" to Quebec. People need to get their facts straight before they began posting comments on the internet. :)

  • Ha ha, very true indeed. Though I do believe the universe might implode if people actually did that. :P

  • LOL Yeah, probably. :P

  • first comment

  • Good save on the torch in the closing ceremony! It was a brilliant idea! The opening ceremony wasn't that great but the athletes saved it. Slow sad start, but epic happy finish! Iginla to Crosby! Can't get any more historic than that!

  • what was the song with all the athletes?

  • having 14 gold medals makes up for the technical difficulty

  • @BDamanChamp hell yeah

  • Health care in canada is not actually free. We pay for it in our taxes along with other things. But i think it's better than the US health care either way.

  • Ours is not free, but compared to that in the US, it might as well be!

  • Pretty sure its a % of it we still pay as well.

    Prob like 20% or whatever.

  • They were incredible Olympic Games, please don't cheapen them with pointless and classless gloating.

  • so you think you have class? i don't even know who you are. stop being arrogant.

  • hope my american friends enjoy the silver

  • Hey USA, can you give us a hand lifting up all our gold medals?

  • I think we should, since obviously you're not used to holding as many gold medals.

  • Don't divert the reality USA LOSE!!!!!! CANADA WIN THE GOLD! BWAHAHAHAH! YAHOOO!

  • Free health care??

    I thought so too..

but it is not true anymore.

I used to live in ON and there it was actually free health care. I recently moved to BC, and i have found out that i have to pay for MONTHLY FEE of 114 CAN for my family.. And this is after I have paid for my income TAX.. Jesus.. I thought the reason why we pay so much for TAX was because of the free health care..

  • I know eh? and because I am without a job. And the fee got to $500 something I got a collections agency trying to take away my stuff :/ Like they say if you are born poor you will die poor.

  • I hear yah Ontario health care was free now i moved to Alberta and fees and shit wtf

  • @ubart420 yeah our red neck government keeps trying to dismantle the health care system

  • no offense but your a complete idiot

  • correction: you're

  • wow wow wow dude, we don't have QUANTITY at all, and that information is false, either way it doesn't matter, i'm canadian myself, and no canadian should be even implying that canada is better then america, that is a very stupid thing to be doing, just like americans shoundn't imply that they are better then canada, we are all human, it really doesn't matter, and the way we played that hockeygame last night, both america and canada were winners it was an AWESOME game!

  • @Chomp24 The best thing would be a mixture of both private and public health care, which is what some people are pushing for here in Alberta

  • What's that America I can't hear you over my free health care xD

  • Watch in AMAZING High Quality HD :

    bit . ly/c2ibzE

  • Check out the new Facebook group: "Are you dissing Canada? I can't hear you over my health care benefits."

Seriously - last night in Vancouver, it didn't matter if you were American or Canadian - everybody was celebrating together.

  • What a brilliant way to turn the technical glitch of the opening ceremonies into part of the show! You know certain other countries would be afraid to do anything like that, but Canada is not afraid to poke a bit of fun at itself. How inspired to rewrite part of the closing ceremony and leave everyone with good memories of would otherwise have remained just a goof-up.

    Five stars for Canada!

  • it really sickens me when US citizens talk shit about a country that is loved by the world, when the US refuses to even teach history because all the us history is, is just a bunch or redneck drunk guys making secret plans behind ur stupid beer drinking backs... USA SUCKS!
