  • Wow, she says "kanpai" over and over again, even though that's the Japanese "cheers" and they're supposed to be speaking Chinese. This movie is awful.

  • @Shade0591

by the way, she IS speaking mandarin, and she's saying Gan Bei which means Cheers.

  • @Shade0591

by the way, she IS speaking mandarin, and she's saying Gan Bei which means Cheers. She was speaking mandarin the entire time.

  • @VeeVee313 Aaaah, thank you for clearing that up. Sorry, this movie just really repelled me for some reason. I don't know why I hate it so much.

  • @Shade0591 haha no problem and that's too bad, i wouldn't say it's an excellent movie, but it's entertaining for me

  • @VeeVee313 I would have agreed to Kanpai, but, I am aware that like Spain and italy, there are circumstances in which countries have similar words in their own language. That's just from taking Spanish and translating French.

  • @aoinatafanboy84 oh I agree with you in that words always cross in languages, as Japanese is derived from Mandarin. but that doesn't explain the rest of her dialogue, because she does speak in Mandarin to him during the mahjong scenes, and the Romanization of the word for cheers in Mandarin in Gan Bei. So taking into account that she does speak Mandarin i'd still have to say she says "ganbei" and not Kanpai. And as you are taking from Spanish I'm taking from my mother tongue Mandarin

  • @VeeVee313 You are right about 4 dialects spoken in the country of China though I am afraid I can only recall Cantonese and Mandarin by memory. You did also provide a lot of help when I listened closer and heard the G a lot clearer. I can't exactly speak any language but english fluently, I do like listening and learning to recognize the dialect or when written using Roman Characters.

  • @aoinatafanboy84 actually there are many dialects spoken in China because each one is a variation, but there are 2 main dialects which are Cantonese and Mandarin. I'm glad I could provide you with some help, I wasn't trying to do anything but provide people with information. It's always great to learn languages by listening and learning. Thanks for your input^^.

  • @VeeVee313 You are welcome, I blame it on my interest in Sherlock Holmes and trying to learn as much as I can at times.

  • @aoinatafanboy84 Also my only point to Shade0591 was that the woman was speaking "Chinese" as they thought that the woman wasn't speaking Chinese. But I mentioned Mandarin because there is no "language" called Chinese. Chinese is a culture, and the Chinese people speak mostly Mandarin and in Hong Kong they speak Cantonese. I was only merely trying to point out to the user that they were indeed speaking Mandarin.
