finding and UNDERSTANDING a proper grip is number 1. the grip is so underrated when it comes to golf teaching. more than half of all swing faults can be attributed to the golf grip alone.
My brother in law is a pro on tour & gives me lessons occasionally. He is changing almost every part of my swing that otherwise has worked for me fine until now. Grip, stance, hip rotation, address. All of this has been to get me hitting every shot with an intentional draw to really drill home the feeling of that particular shot. It's sent my handicap up again. I recognise the advice is great for the long term, but does it help my confidence & feeling of self improvement? Not really.
The point that Tiger is making is that so many people think there is an absolute way to swing a golf club and if we look on tour, so many of them have their own swing. They are not carbon copies. This is very useful advice because it is true. Find out what works for you and remember, it's not how, it's how many.
if i had a choice to be able to play a round of golf with either Woods or Furyk, I choose Furyk because I feel I'd learn more from him. The guys probably hands down the best course strategies in the game today. Yes, he brain farted at the Heritage, but even in the thick of it, he was still able to hold his composer and that's something we all can learn a little something from.

its funny how some guys learn to score.....tiger is 100% correct....once u have become a solid player in terms of being a high level golfer(scratch or better), its all about learning how to score in this game....do anythin and everything that gets the ball in the hole in the least amount of strokes.....thats why u see Tiger Woods hittin so many 3 woods kiddies!!!!

And get excused by millions of fanboys who are just fine with you humiliating your wife and children in your self-indulgent way, as long as you come back, win again, and give them their sports entertainment.
This is a very polite way of saying "I have the best swing in the world and there is no way you will ever be able to copy it, so just keep hacking the way you do now and stop trying to emulate me..."
Theres truth to that tho. No one can master the game not even tiger. Thats why he changes things up once in a while. I changed my game and slowed my swing down and changed the way i aproach my drives just something basic and consistant and it worked for me as far as being consistant goes(im not slicing it to the other fairway but not as long) now that you get something basic then you can work on and tweek things to add more length, spin the ball etc...

he also means that one should try experimenting with his/her golf swing and find out what works best for you and thats what i have been doing for the last year but it had resulted in inconsistent golfing and i'm still finding my true swing thanks to Tiger and i'm getting better than before!!!!!!!
It all comes down to fundamentals get those correct and you have 90% of the swing down. after that it is all about learning to play game and learning how to score
@robw1031 "Fundamentals?" - Technically speaking in order for something to be "fundamental" everyone would HAVE to do it...Grip? 100 different grips on tour, Stance? a ton of different stances, Tempo? Many different tempos....the only true fundamentals are that you need to stand to the side of the ball and grip the club (in some manner) and get the club head to move really fast as it hits the ball...and if u can do consistently...you're a player (assuming you have a short game).
@jordan10199005 Having taught many, many professional lessons, studied the swing ad nauseum and learned from some of the finest teaching pros in the world, I would call this the best golf advice there is.
This is what I keep preaching to everyone that asks me about golf because I've changed my swing numerous times and I still play well and I've seen other guys with swings totally different from anything I've seen before, but their effective and thats all that matters.
